    • @yourlifeisagreatstory

That the whole crux of it all. I believe a lot of the people can comprehend or don’t understand the facts, and a lot of them are ignorant to the facts. Mix that with someone who is so set on being right they refuse to even for a second admit/accept they could be wrong, or that someone else could be right. I think that’s why it’s so hard to convert a lot of these people, there’s multiple issues at play. That’s why I’m really curious to see what happens with TFE.
I watched an episode of Catfish in which a guy thought he had been talking to Katy Perry. Even after confronting with the real person, he had a hard time accepting the truth. Even when she said things only the two of them would know, he made excuses to fit his beliefs. I really think this will be the issue with TFE. I’ve already guessed a few will say there’s another sun that moves in line with the “perspective” of people standing in that area of the flat Earth.

They keep changing their mind, trying to figure it out and make sense of it because they want it to be true... because if it isn't true, they look like fools. Ultimately, letting go of personal pride and believing you know better than anyone else, let alone the brilliant scientists that built the world of convenience most people who believe in flat earth are priviledged to live in, is the only way - Dave himself being humble but factual does wonders for leveling that playing field into something more approachable.

Unfortunately the information age allows the spread of misinformation just as much as information. Flat earth alone is mostly harmless, but if you don't trust NASA then you probably don't trust doctors either, and that's where it can get dangerous. @@5peciesunkn0wn yeah that’s pretty much what I was trying to explain to him, was that for things to get hotter or catch fire, the molecules have to become more energetic, but he was trying to argue that, like with applying friction, the temperature went *down* until the ignition point was hit and then instantly became a 1000•+ flame.
Like he was also explaining that the core of the sun was close to absolute zero (he said “coldest ever” but thats the coldest I can think of so) and because of the core being so cold, it caused the outside to be so hot and active
I wish I could more properly convey his mindset because it was insane to read, like he almost convinced me for a second, because he was using proper terms and math but always lost me at the air conditioner analogy, and the fact that what he was basically saying was, “the temperature of an object goes down until ignition, and then spikes up to its ignition point” which just isn’t true.

@@aufstieg6948 and that's also not how an air conditioner works. Since an air conditioner is pulling the heat out of the air, the cold thing would have to pull the cold away. There wouldn't be any 'suddenly reaches ignition point and temperature flips', it would simply just get hotter and hotter until it smolders, then smokes, then flickers, then flames.
Would make for an interesting magic system. I've already stolen 'moon is cold' for my stuff lol

While I agree with the science Prof. Dave presents, I do not agree with how he fills his videos with insults, constantly calling people idiots or morons. That doesn't help. No one likes being called stupid, repeatedly, and it just drives people away, especially the ones he's trying to reach. McKeegan on the other hand, always seems like one of the nicest people you could meet. He never belittles anyone, it feels like all he honestly wants to do is teach people, open their eyes.
