The plane uses the atmosphere to fly. As the pilot reaches a certain altitude, they sit in a certain band of air pressure. As that air pressure curves with the earth, so will the plane. It couldn't ever fly off into space because there is no atmosphere there to use for thrust or lift. Maybe try learning how planes work instead of posting a clueless ignorant comment like that.

The highest point on Earth is still 8848 meter Mt Everest, on the Nepal-China border. K2 is on the Pakistan-China border several hundred miles to the west. The number was assigned to the mountain simply to reflect its position in a row of peaks. (Everest was once known as "Peak XV" on a different survey.) It is a coincidence that K2's name matches its position on the list of world's highest peaks.

I did some calculations about the earth being small and we wouldn't notice or feel anything on its surface with our palm. A standard tabletop globe is 12 inches in diameter. Earth's diameter is 7917. 5 miles. The lowest and highest points on earth is 11 miles distance. So if the earth were a 12 inches diameter tabletop globe in size, the distance of its highest and lowest points on the surface we will have is 0.016 millimeter.

The vast majority of my knowledge was acquired after my school years. This is why i believe Neil's message is so incredibly invaluable, we need to be teaching kids how to inquire, rather than teaching them to memorize information. Most of what kids learn in school pre-college, is forgotten, and most of what college graduates learn is outdated within a decade. The plane uses the atmosphere to fly. As the pilot reaches a certain altitude, they sit in a certain band of air pressure. As that air pressure curves with the earth, so will the plane. It couldn't ever fly off into space because there is no atmosphere there to use for thrust or lift. Maybe try learning how planes work instead of posting a clueless ignorant comment like that.

The highest point on Earth is still 8848 meter Mt Everest, on the Nepal-China border. K2 is on the Pakistan-China border several hundred miles to the west. The number was assigned to the mountain simply to reflect its position in a row of peaks. (Everest was once known as "Peak XV" on a different survey.) I did some calculations about the earth being small and we wouldn't notice or feel anything on its surface with our palm. A standard tabletop globe is 12 inches in diameter. Earth's diameter is 7917. 5 miles. The lowest and highest points on earth is 11 miles distance. So if the earth were a 12 inches diameter tabletop globe in size, the distance of its highest and lowest points on the surface we will have is 0.016 millimeter.
