Explained this very well. He makes it easy to understand even for a country boy!

My ac will run fine for about 30mins sitting while im on my lunch break before turning off but anytime im driving itll shut off. it wont come back on at all unless
    A) i turn ac switch off for 10-15 min while driving and back on or
    B) putting truck in neutral and reving it above 5k. either option is only temporary fix as it will shut off again.
ive put a set of gauges on it and noticed to different things.
    1) raising rpm would cause the low side to drop below 30 cutting ac off which seems tied to it cutting off while driving
    2) if its a hot day and idle for long enough the high side psi creeps up shutting it off.
ive evac the system and put a new orifice tube in ( matched it to the one that was in it) thinking it was the reason for the low side dropping under accel but still happens
if its around the 70-80* it works better but anything on a real hot this is a consistent thing.
when i first got truck it would run u out for being so cold and never shut off. i didnt notice any of these issues till my blend doors messed up, the ac/heat door was just hanging so it was running both at the same time and the fresh air was aways open. wondering if maybe the pump was just worn out from working so hard to cool with heat and hot outside are both coming in, or if there is something electronic causing it since the pump will run weather ac button is lit or not unless i turn temp to heat or defrost

Thanks for this, I found my issue. The compressor was for wrong year model, it had no pressure switch, my harness had the plug for a pressure switch. I put a correct compressor on. Fixed!! Thanks again.

I have no power on low pressure switch. And when I ground the relay the pump will kick in

Where did you get the wiring diagrams from? is this the same for a 2000 GMC sierra

would the blend door actuator being bad have any effect on the power/signal to the compressor clutch somehow?

I haven't seen it. You really need and look to see if the ECM is getting a request from the AC head unit to turn the compressor on. Have you tried defrost to see if the compressor will come on?

James I got a head scratcher for ya...
My ac will on my 2004 silverado 2500hd 6.6 duramax will only work on setting 5,and its hit or miss when it wants to work/turn on. Settings 1-4 still blow air they will just not kick the compressor on. If i start the truck and the ac panel is on and on setting 5 the compressor will kick on and run for about 15-20 mins, shut off and wont re engage until i pull the 30 amp fuse from the passenger side of the dash and reinsert it. A buddy and I have troubleshot the wiring and all seems to check ok. Could the pcm be a problem?
ive replaced the clutch, both pressure switches, control panel, vacuumed the system and refilled with correct amount.

I would go to resistor and check with a meter for system voltage on 2 wires with it set on any 1-4 not 5 speed that tells me that the A/C control head is good and resistor is bad. That's with resistor plugged in. Don't be concerned with a lower voltage on other pens or wires it's back feeding through resister.
Now on compressor I highly doubt that it's the PCM. I would thank Freon [ over/under] charged, airflow though condenser [dirt/grass], AC pressor sensor or Engine/Transmissions preformance like over temp [ engine or trans].
If you have an Check Engine Light and the PCM detects powertrain problems it will start turning loads off. Hope this helps. Thank you for your question

@@NobleAutomotive yeah i have a glow plug code. But whats confusing is that it will work on setting 5,4,3 but turn itself off quicker the lower the setting. I dont think its the pcm either. If it didnt work at all ( i get all the on/off signals on the scanner once i cycle the dial or hit the ac button)

Jim, I have a question I have a 2000 Chevy truck. The air conditioner was working fine. The truck was an automatic so I changed it over to a five speed but I had a programmer go in and change my ECM and take the automatic portion out of it now my air compressor will kick on and off when it’s idling real quick what will not build up pressure once you Revit up and start driving. It starts working normal, do you have any suggestions?

First I would plug in a scanner and look for a output for ac relay .You can lay your hand on ac relay and feel / listen for a click when the compressor tuns on. Now I'm going to ask myself what has been done ECM flash/trans replace.I see that there are grounds at Bellhousing. I would start there. Most over looked
