      No. 8gb is simply not enough in 2024 and it will only get worse. For 400$ there is rx 7700xt, rx 6800 for even less and both are much faster than poor 4060ti with enough vram and both can be solid 1440p GPUs, unlike 4060ti that is stuck with 1080p with its narrow 128bit bus. Nvidia has nothing under 550$ and that is a big shame, AMD is not much better but they got something at least.

    • @williehrmann
      @williehrmann 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It acutally does matter at 1080p. I couldn't play Farcry 6 with Hd Texture pack in 1080p on my 3070 because my fps went from 90 to 20-30 and textures don't affect performance at all. Also cyberpunk was unplayable in 1080p just because of 8 gb vram. The chip could do 70 fps with raytracing ultra but after 1-2 min it dropped to 20-30 fps because of vram. Same goes for Doom Eternal, Diablo 4 and many others. 8 gb is NOT enough for 1080p and hasn't been since 2021ish. Also 12 gb isn'T enough for 1440p that'S why i went for the 4070 ti super with 16 gb. And If I go for usage (not allocation) it uses about 11-12 gb in a lot of games. So you'd get stutters after some minutes again if you only had 12 gb of vram. Don't buy anything under 12 gb for 1080p and anything under 16 gb for 1440p.

      @@williehrmann What were the readings without RT? Most of people who are looking at 8gb cards are the entry level buyers so RT performance probably doesn't bother them a great deal. Of course, if you're looking to buy anything midrange or above then absolutely steer clear of 8gb, but 3070 without RT shouldn't be putting up such lowly numbers when even a GTX 1060 with only 6gb of VRAM can do the job in Doom Eternal at around medium to high at 4k.

    • @williehrmann
      @williehrmann 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@juuglord8509 Sadly I didn't test without RT. Because the only reason I upgraded from 1070 to 3070 was rt. And when I realized I couldn't play with rt I sold it and waited for 4070 ti Super to play games again. But I've read that Rt takes about 1-2 gb more VRam. So that could well be. But a 3070 is a high midrange card and should well be capable of playing max settings with raytracing at 1080p and it was if it wasn't for lacking vram. When I start the game I got 70 fps, after 1-2 mins it dropped to 20. Always when vram creeped up full. In Doom eternal I could play sometimes with 100 fps then it just dropped to 30 and wouldn'T go up after 10 mins. It went on like that for every game, Watchdogs Legion also. Hitman 3. Every game would run at high fps für some minutes and then drop. That's a clear indication of vram issues. In a 3050 this would be acceptable. But 1080 p is already the lowest acceptable resolution today and a 3070 is a midrange card (people even say 1440p, which would never work with 8 gb of VRam). It can'T be that nvidia releases a high midrange card with a lot of rt performance that cant even play it in 1080p. They should have broought the 3070 with 10 gb and the 3080 with 12 from the beginning and everything would be fine.

      @gatsusagara6637 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you look at hardware unboxed, digital foundary, daniel owens, and pcworld reviews you can see that it really depends on the game. 8gb card for a game like Hogwart's Legacy, Last of US part 1, RE4 remake etc would work, just not well. Some parts of the game might stutter or have greatly reduced textures loaded in game. The game might be streaming muddy looking textures all day long. If you don't play a lot of 1st person, eye candy games or have huge mods installed, then I guess 8gb vram for 1080p makes sense. What I don't get is why settle for a 300 dollar 8gb card when a 360 dollar 16gb card exist? I would pick the 7600xt 16gb over a 4060ti any day of the week. Even for truly entry level I rather pick up a rtx3060 12gb over a 4060 8gb.

    • @danimayb
      @danimayb 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@williehrmann Textures can affect performance if they are big enough. If you use a bunch of high resolution textures for example they will bog down your GPU despite having enough Vram to store them, So a powerful enough GPU with enough Vram is needed in those situations to get the better outcome.

  • @gatsusagara6637
    @gatsusagara6637 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    No. If I wanted RT for my games, I would go straight for a 4070. Playing at 1080p with RT on might look good for some games. Playing at 1440p high textures would generally look better for most games with or without RT. In fact, I rather have a 4060 with 16gb vram instead of a 4060ti with 8gb or a 400usd 4060ti 16gb that gets within arm's reach of a rx 7700xt.

      If we're talking about using a 27-inch monitor then I too think that 1440p is the way to go. Decent 1440p monitors cost only $20-40 more so there is no big price barrier like there was in the past. If only there was a cheaper 12-16GB NVIDIA card to enable more people to experience 1440p. Get AMD Rx 7800xt for the same money of 4060ti or Rx 6750xt instead of Rtx 4060

      I have 6750 XT, best £300 card imo....7800 XT more expensive than 4060 Ti 8GB but 7700 XT is the same price and has 12GB vram & is a better option, 8GB vram on a £400 card is insane!

    I think i don't recommending anything bellow of a RTX 4070 / 4070 Super in 2024 and beyond.

      Honestly I wouldn't suggest buying a card until later on in the year for heavy discounts before the new cards release for next gen.
      Otherwise just buy a temporary used card for a couple hundred dollars and wait until than.

      Indeed, it is difficult to recommend these 60-class cards knowing that it's highly likely that they'll be obsolete in 1-2 years.

      I'm upgrading from gtx 780. 4060ti is easily the best gpu at that price point. I can't spend anymore to get the 4070 like I would, and the 3070 is more expensive then the 4060ti also. Already waited a long to time buy a new PC. Not everyone can just keep waiting and it would be pointless to buy a temporary card rn then go through the hassle of reselling it and getting a new card in a few months... The 4060ti will last me 8 years just like the gtx 780 did.

      @@SneakyBarkerThe 4060 Ti 8GB won’t last you 8 years. The 16GB variant would last you a lot longer than the 8GB version but then you’re getting close to the 4070 price. I’d save a few more months and go for a 4070 or 4070 Super. My daughter has a 3070 (2-3% faster than a 4060 Ti) and it plays everything at 1440p fine bar Fortnite where she runs that at 1080p to keep at a constant 120fps). It uses on average 6-7GB VRAM so not long left before it runs out. My son has the 4070 and that runs every game on high/ultra 1440p with ease. Problem you’ll get though is the better the card you get the better the CPU you will need. Minimum you want a AMD Ryzen 5 5600X/5700X or an Intel i5-12400F/12600K if you’re going on a DDR4 budget build.

      @@papalazarou7880 i have an 15 14400 and 4060ti. It should last me 5 years before I need to upgrade hopefully. Atm I only play games on 1080p so I thought a 4070 would of just been complete overkill for me. If I was playing on 1440p I would of definitely spent the extra money to get a 4070. In 5 years time I'll be able to get a better gpu than a 4070 for the same price I would of paid for one now, and it would actually be needed. Whereas I don't need one now.

      I wouldn't suggest buying a new rx 6700xt when you can buy the rx 6750xt new for around the same price for a superior card.
