- In today's Tech Thursday, brought to you by Phu Vu over at Epic BMX (@_epicbmx) we tackle How To Install a bike headset, and how to install an integrated headset on bikes of all sizes! This particular integrated headset tutorial was done on a Redline Cruiser (26 inch bike) and we used an FSA 1 1/8" integrated headset.

I was having this exact issue and tore my front end apart 100 times. Was gonna tape a sheet of sandpaper to the bench and rub it in little circles till the lip was gone, but decided to see if Phu had a fix. He is the GOAT of BMX mechanics.

Haha, now when I've seen your guy push your things with his hand aside, just so he can open the cash register, on top of that, there's multiple phones that you have to deal with, customers coming in, water bottles being thrown. That's the most excellent example of Control vs. Chaos struggle in this one crowded bike shop. Loving it. Wishing you all the best.

This happened to me before. I end up grinding the bottom of the top headset cup. Then it stopped rubbing.
That would be the other route for sure!

So when do I know when to replace my headset? I just finished going through a 95 mongoose I got new as a kid and rode the piss out of it! I replaced and repacked the bearings but idk? The cups have to wear out to a point?
A good teaching moment would have been for him to explain the concept of a bearing race as it relates to almost everything mechanical most people will deal with in their lives. Mechanics etc... Otherwise another great video.
Loved to see this with and older bike from the late 80-early 90s with threaded stem and odyssey gyro one also. Pissed my pics when I took it apart didn’t save lol

10:47 I would use a FSA headset micro spacer shim to stop the top cap binding 🔥👍🚲💨
Focus was not on point, trying to focus in on the detail of the items hurt. Its like focus was set to far.

Im from the phillipines. I wish i have a bmx on my birthday coz i cant afford to buy one.
I popped my integrated bearing caceing then had problems when I lost the spacer in the cap . Had to get new but since then no problem 🤞

I appreciate you guys' explanations of integrated IS, ZS and semi-integrated headset types. Great videos! On a different note, I just can't imagine how you manage to relax and stay calm in your bike shop as there's so much clutter around. For me to be able to work, the environment is too overwhelming. No space left to set currently used tools. Etc. You know? I admire your personality that deals with chaos so well.
