Bullseye Headset Install on an SE Bikes Big Ripper

  • I'm back at my buddy Bernie's garage to install a new Bullseye headset on my SE Bikes Big Ripper. I've had this headset on my desk in my office for quite some time now, mainly because I lack some of the tools needed for this but also because I'm not super comfortable doing this myself. We both had the same day off and decided to go for it. If you are weekend mechanics like us, you'll want to see Bernie's homemade headset press that he created with parts from Home Depot. If you're an experienced bike mechanic, be kind in the comments as we know there are things we could have done better, like not kinking the brake cable. Yep, we did that. You can pick up the headset yourself from Bullseye using the link below and as always, thanks for stopping by!

    If you get a stand that holds the bike steady, tapping out parts like the headset is much easier. All of your energy is being absorbed by the stand.

    This is the best video I've watched in a long time. Thanks so much for posting it up guys! It's so cool seeing someone my own age doing this. I think I'm going to have to get a Big Ripper for myself. I'm sitting here just buzzing watching you dudes ride. Thinking about finally riding true Bmx frame geometry that will fit my 6'3" again! AND a PK Ripper just like I had as a kid... Just Wow!

      Aww thank you so much for those kind words man! We really appreciate it! Getting a 29" big BMX bike would be perfect for your 6'3" frame! Dude, these bikes ride just like our 20" bikes used to when we were younger and smaller! The best part is being able to customize it like we did as kids, but now we have more money! Thanks for watching and for the kind comments! Let us know if you need any help with anything!

    love the content and the old school mechanic approach. would have loved the stand back in the 80s when i was riding. i am looking at adding an se to my stable but i am torn between nostalgia and what might fit me im 6'0 am looking at the fat quad, the om duro or the monster quad. your thoughts would be appreciated

    • @cruisinginthe808
      @cruisinginthe808  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and for the comment! Appreciate the sub too! I'm 5'9" and I love the 29 inch bikes like the Big Ripper or the Monster Quad. Haven't ridden the Fat Quad but I'm guessing it's similar to the Monster. The OM Duro is nice because it's right in the middle of the 26 and 29. Isaac from Big Bike BMX is a big dude and he loves the 27.5 size so I think it would work for you. The Duro also has the gears which you might like. I just got a Monza 26" and at first I thought it was a little small but as I ride it more, I'm getting used to it. It's quick and nimble because of its size compared to the 29s. The 29s are more of like a cruiser type bike. If you have a bike shop near you, my suggestion is to try them out for yourself and see which one feels better for you. You will definitely notice a difference in the sizes. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    • @cruisinginthe808
      @cruisinginthe808  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @cruisinginthe808
      @cruisinginthe808  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get my grips from either Planet BMX or BMX Guru. The hard part with these old school two-tone Ames is that they are in and out of stock and so you have to keep checking the websites to see and then buy them as soon as you do. They usually don't last very long. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
