  • In today's Tech Thursday, the BMX Master, Phu Vu from EPIC BMX (@_epicbmx) gives us the walk through on:
How To remove a Bottom Bracket (BB)
How to Install a bottom bracket
    how to install cranks
    how to install pedals
    how to install adapters
The cranks that were installed in this tutorial were the Stranger Mass cranks that come in 165mm with a 24mm oversized spindle. The sprocket was a stock Cult Crew, and the pedals were the demolition pc pedals.

The “floating spacer” is called a bottom bracket spacer, it’s actually there to prevent over-tightening the cranks and crushing the bearings. It also improves smoothness in the bearings overall in my experience. If it isnt the right size, you gotta add a spacer or buy a different sized spacer. It makes the bearings last longer too

ummmm. I am a diesel mech. I have bearing pullers. No bearing is technically reusable as they are consumable items unless unsealed and rebuildable, only "financially" reusable if you cant shell out the cash for a replacement. Another excellent instruction video, keep it up guys.

@@AlfredoMancuso LOL, I have to add something about the spacer which goes between the bearings on the bottom bracket. Not using it can create a concave pressure on the center bearing race when tightening the crank bolts. This can cause an inexperienced mechanic to over torque their assembly and lower the quality of the rider’s experience and longevity and durability of the bottom bracket. Anyways, keep kicking ass man. You are a huge role model to riders of all ages.

  • @enorbz
    @enorbz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

So that middle spacer is used to preload the bottom bracket bearings. In the past you can measure the bottom bracket shell width and measure both bearings and what you have left is the size of the middle spacer. You can also use the smaller spacer to put inside the frame as well and the BB will spin smooth as butter unlike what was shown here it’s not good for the bearings to spin like that at all.
    Cheers!

What if my spindle won’t go through the bracket? My GT set has a spindle with has a small lip that won’t let it go through the bearings. Are there spindles that need to be installed from inside rather than sliding it one side and out the other?

      9-25
      10-28
      11-30
      12-33
Few others but like don't have to worry.
      16-45
That's on twenty inch wheels. 9-28 is best. Good for fakies on cassettes. Its once over geared so harder to pedal a tad but faster top speed.

What if he were to measure the gaps/spacing and then pick the correct spacer instead of guessing?

Why would you throw the spacer away? The spacer prevents the bearings from side loading the catridge bearings. Just cut the spacer down with a pipe cutting tool it takes like 2 minutes.
