  • A lot to cover. Something OLD and Something NEW.. Mew additions to my vinyl collection, a newly( for me) discovered artist that I am super impressed with...a deep dive into some FRANK MORGAN recordings and a funny story about Bird and Stravinsky... maybe not really the "Odd Couple" after all!

Very good video Man. Frank Morgan... well ... If there's one to have is the one he did with Bud Shank ! On this one, Frank really had to PLAY because Bud kicked his ass !
Hampton Hawes : this is a 1974 japanese reissue, a top reissue because this is a King pressing.

Shank I think was somewhat under rated in the alto world....didn't he have a lot to do with bringing Brazilian music to the US...pre Stan Getz?..anyhow I remember that recording and I'll look for it later on Discogs..... it was a duo---thanks for the info as always! Bud was a great , tasty player!--JG

@@Jackgrahamphotograph Bud bought, with Laurindo Almeida, who was brazilian, in the USA, in 1953, some old brazilian music and transformed some great songs into what it'll call a few years later Bossa Nova.
Many people attribute this music to Jobim and Getz, but the first were Bud Shank and Laurindo Almeida, as early as 1953. They influenced Jobim! Tom confirmed it to me! We've often talked about it. I could talk about it for hours, because Tom told me a lot about his influences, starting with jazz and then classical music. Bud is one of the all-time greats, but nobody knows him, or many have forgotten him!
