    Hello Jack , good to hear from you again . As a Verve reissue I suggest " The Dukes in Bed " ; totally delightful . Johnnie Hodges leads a lovely group of Ellingtonians with Billy Strayhorn replacing Duke Ellington . Verve 2304 383 .

    Thanks Jack. I pick up Pablos whenever I see them. I like them all! Never gave any consideration until I heard you mention them.

      There is so much to that label thanks to Norman Granz and most of them are well recorded.
      Keep digging in the stores etc... I bet the prices are going to go up when the world figures out that's there. Thanks for your comment and for listening!-JG

    Hello Jack - Glad to see another Video posted, always a welcome sight to see recent reissues and Used Jazz Vinyl! What I would like to comment on is: "The Cannonball Adderley Quintet Plus" LP, you are one of the first in the YTVC to show and review this "Masterpiece"! I thought I was familiar with Cannonball's discography, until I came across this album last Summer. After a successful tour of Europe they came back to the States to record this album. With the addition of Kelly & Feldman the Band is elevated to a higher level (IMO)! I consider this LP a "Sleeper-Lost recording" as no one seems to recognize or talk about this to any degree. With just one listen, it is difficult to not to put on "repeat" every track is a gem, their playing is superlative!! .......One final note: It is such a pleasure to see a YT Presenter showing the "Pablo" label, good Jazz Music doesn't need the RSD treatment to bring new listeners into the fold......but that is probably another "rant" to explore later! Take Care, Jack!

      Rich..I couldn't agree more. I was about 12 when my neighbor was playing this group on a record and I heard it from my bedroom window in NJ. I went over there and he played it for me. I had just started studying the trumpet . This new sound and rhythm was so different. That along with Clifford was my gateway to the music. That's kind of why this group means so much to me. Get a hold of this DVD: WHAT A GROUP OF PLAYERS!---thanks for your comment and for listening!-JG

    Nice one jack. I’m with you. I’m not a fan of boxing music in to genre. Where jazz meets classical. A lot of of what bill Evans is more classical. Maybe we could call it orchestrated music. But that doesn’t include solo an piano music. Some fab jazz you showed.

      3 absolute geniuses in the music: (not in any order of rank) 1) Armstrong, 2)Ellington 3)Parker and perhaps Monk with a Honorable Mention..... More attention should be paid to these folks!. Thanks for your comment and for listening!-JG

    Great video Man as usual. I asked Chad, through a conversation about 2 months ago, to reissue the complete Poll Winners Contemporary Sessions (with all 5 albums) and the Complete Shelly Manne at the BlackHawk with the 4 Lp's + 2 or 3 new ones with all the unreleased tracks never been issued on LP because all are fantastic. I'm disappointed to know that he's going to reissue the first volume only for now ...
    I'm totally with you with the name of Classical and the definition ... It's almost impossible to explain this word and, of course, it's really very missued misused, misinterpreted and misunderstood.
    I think I have all Pablo releases in my collection. I'm very happy that you talk a lot about this great label.

    Interesting video. Certainly Ellington wrote music that is considered classical and is played & recorded by symphony orchestras (eg Brown Black and Beige). However, I would not call his album with Coltrane "classical", even though it is a classic! I guess words fall short when attempting to describe what we hear and what we feel when music plays. Random comment: I am a jazz newbie and I just heard Ben Webster for the first time and I really loved it! What do you think of Webster and what do you think is his best album?

    • @Jackgrahamphotograph
      @Jackgrahamphotograph  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank s for your comment--I love Webster. His sound along with Pres(Lester Young) is amazing. I can't recommend this record :

      ENOUGH !
      On the classical topic... I was probably trying to kind of redefine the term classical, meaning timeless. For me it applies to other genres' of music as well as what we have been taught classical means. For me Duke, for example is every bit as classic as Beethoven... just my $0.02. Your points are well taken!-
      Thanks for listening and for the comments!. I really appreciate them--JG

    Hey jack Classical music is a music type from 1750 to 1820. Just like Baroque and romantic periods. The title really has nothing to do with proficiency.

    • @Jackgrahamphotograph
      @Jackgrahamphotograph  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree.. the definition of the Classical Period".... Classic can mean different things--what is a "Classic Car"... a 67Mustang? Will the 2024 Toyota Tacoma going to be a classic truck? Classic to me is something that withstands time due to its value ( different for everyone else--but that's certainly a discussion to have too!). --I guess I am just not a "label" guy. However I agree on the definition you provides on Classical music referring to the period.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching. It means a lot.
