  • I sort of made the mistake of taking apart the pressure switch to clean up the contacts repairing this air compressor. It took me a while to figure out how to get back together, hopefully this helps others save some time.
    Craftsman 5.5HP 120V 30 gal Air Compressor 919.165310 P
    AC-0375 Air Compressor Pressure Switch $132 from SearsParts
    Wont' start? Starts once then trips breaker? Motor has two capacitors, white one = run capacitor (40uF micro farad) and black one = start capacitor (400-450 MFD micro farad). Black capacitor tested bad, not in range, replaced for under $10.

    Sir, You just saved my Compressor. The seal under my pressure switch was leaking and I took it apart. All the parts flung apart. Without your video, I would have had to junk the compressor. THANK YOU! I never would've figure it how to put it back together.

    Man I wish I would have seen this video before taking my switch apart! I'm some glad I found it though. You saved my compressor from the municipal dump and saved me money too, Thank you!

      I literally was going to write the same thing. He saved mine also. Just dont know if the lever goes on after or during the process of putting it back on comp.

    What is the part number for a replacement switch?

    There is another break down and assembly of this pressure switch at youtube “PRESOSTADO LEFOO”. The audio is in Spanish but the video is very detailed.

    I thought to send a message anyway although it's 5 years old this video but I'm having trouble finding parts now for similar compressor like yours it's the horizontal 25 gallon three and a half horsepower and it's pretty frustrating I'm trying to see if I can replace the bracket that connects to the Three and a half horsepower I was wondering if there's a bracket piston assembly and the head the whole bracket with the Piston part of it the whole piston and bracket that connects to the motor I'm wondering if that can be another one can be taken off another compressor and use on this old one since the parts are obsolete it's pretty frustrating

    My compressor starts working and builds pressure up to 150psi but sometimes during work it will not start and won't keep tank charged. Sometimes it turns on only for a few seconds then goes quiet. Sometimes I hears something that it wants to start like air going somewhere through the pipe for about 2 second and then quiets and stays like that. Fails to keep up pressure in tank when I use it. Pressure goes low as 50psi but compressor doesn't start. Then I had to open drain valve to release remaining air pressure in the tank. Disconnect it from AC power for few minutes and it starts working again build up to 150psi again. I don't hear any air leaks. What could be wrong??

      Start capacitor most likely, faulty sticking pressure switch second thing I'd check.

    I lost that little black plastic piece. Is it possible to order that or do I have to order the entire pressure switch

    I have a silly question. Is there an "ON/OFF" switch on this device? or does it start by plugging it in?

    Good to know! I have the same compressor. Did you use a digital or analog meter to test your capacitors and where did you buy the replacement cap?

    • @JnJShiffler
      @JnJShiffler  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Reno7721 I have a capacitor specific digital meter, tested it completely removed. We order most all our parts from McMasterCarr website.

    my craftman all of a sudden keeps popping breaker,,,it happens when i switch it on motor barely turns over,,,i pops in about 3 seconds...any clue what part is bad???

    • @JnJShiffler
      @JnJShiffler  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +roadstar499 Start capacitor in the motor. There are two, a run capacitor and start up capacitor. It's possible it could be a bad / worn out contact in your pressure switch but most likely the start capacitor. Mine did pretty much the same thing and had one black and one white capacitor. Ordered the new cap from McMaster Carr. (part # 7245K25; AC Motor-Start Capacitor 400-480 MU-F Capacitance, 125V AC {micro farads not mega farads}) It had a smaller diameter so I used a section of 6" pvc pipe connector rubber sleeve to wrap around the new cap so it fit back in place. It's a little over 3/16" thick. You'll need a meter to measure the capacitance to figure out which cap is bad.

      +Justin Shiffler thanks for the help. not sure where cap are located on mine ,but I will see.I will try cleaning contacts first.it actually gradually got worse to wear I needed the pressure in tank to be 80pounds or less before I could switch on motor without popping breaker.now motor barely moves even when tank is empty and pops breaker. it only started messing up a month ago when I painted my truck...thanks

      The caps are mounted on the motor towards the pressure switch. They are cylinder shaped approx 2" diameter by 4" long.

      +Justin Shiffler Okay today i removed pressure switch and i was able to clean the four contacts points up nicely..they were all chared and pitted badly... put it all together and compresser fired right up..then i manually hit cut off switch right away and flipped on again and it struggled to turn over and popped the breaker..which is a 30 amp btw,,, I just read through the dyi for fixing and it says this ''If the compressor motor start capacitor has failed, the power supply to the motor stops there, and the motor will not start.'''....Power gets to my switch so according to what they say its not a bad capacitor.so that means motor should not try to turn over,but mine always does and pops breaker after a second or two.. should i replace the entire pressure switch? maybe it just worn out and as i said the contact points were pretty bad before i polished them...i am running out of ideas... thanks for your help..

    • @JnJShiffler
      @JnJShiffler  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still sounds like a bad start cap. There is one more thing to check. There's little air line that goes to the pressure switch to relieve piston head pressure when it shuts off. It has a little relief valve pin that the pressure switch will press to relieve pressure. The motor can't move if there is head pressure fighting it. Press that little valve pin before trying to start to see if there is trapped pressure. If no pressure, start cap is logical problem.

    • @JnJShiffler
      @JnJShiffler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It was either the head pressure relief valve when pressure switch cuts out or the start capacitor. Cleaning contacts didn't solve it. It's been a while since. I think I have another video about this compressor.
