The Beeline Velo 2 actually shows road layouts on the screen, it's still very simplistic LEDs but it's a huge improvement for junctions etc. Would be good to see this incorporated into the Moto version.
I have owned one for over a year and find it very useful on the country lanes. However, taking it to London was a bit of a pain. The tall buildings made the GPS signal bounce all over the place. The arrow was pointing to all sorts of directions and took ages to eventually reroute. It's a great device if you know more or less where you're going, but expect to miss some turns. The device doesn't always display countdown distances accurately, with the arrow often pointing the wrong way until the last moment. Battery life is amazing, and the device is super stealthy. Overall, I would recommend it
Yes the price reflects this is a limited use device, its not a replacement for a proper sat nav, and without voice prompts it isnt much use at all, bottom line just get a proper sat motorcycle sat nav
Hey Tony great video. I have noticed that “proper” sat nav’s are far more distracting than a lot of riders want to admit. But I will. This happens even when they are situated in line of sight, like my Xumo XT2 on my 1200 Rally Pro. Something like this is transformative in that; first, I should investigate where I’m going to much more thoroughly before hand. And once I do I can then put in my destination …only needing the prompts to assist me to my intended location. I think something like this would allow me to take in the fullness of the journey far more than I already do. Lastly, If I am that worried about getting lost on my upcoming route I can tuck away ole “Proper” in my riding kit as back up. Thanks!
Initially I was put off by the simplicity of the ‘beeline’ but after watching this video I’m drawn to it, I love that you can transfer from one bike to another. I normally use my phone mounted by a quad lock but this simplistic waterproof device with 30hrs of battery life is a no brainer for me. Thanks for this review much appreciated
Glad it was helpful! I find its the simplest option to move from bike to bike. Dont get me wrong I still like a traditional sat nav for exploring on long trips, where i can see side roads heading off, but this is such a useful little device.
I used the mobile app and I do like the ui. So, I purchased one and can’t wait to use it. I used the compass mode and was able to find my destination with no problem at all. Simple, streamlined and minimalistic. Absolutely perfect.
Love my Beeline, the one thing it missed for me was a freeride record facility so I could just ride an unplanned route then save it. They added that last year so it does what I need. I also use a TomTom 550 but find my Beeline really useful
Hi Tony, I love my Beeline and I completely agree with your comments regarding how easy it is to glance at to see what is coming up. I find that if I use a normal map display on a phone or satnav I spend more time looking at the device because I am at analysing the upcoming road ahead on the map rather than actually looking at the road. Using the Beeline allows me to just glance at it and then concentrate on looking at the road ahead.
Thanks for update, helpful to hear about that. Really like using mine on my retro bike and avoid clutter of a phone mount. Recently started using BMW Connectride mount on my GS with an iphone which has IP68 waterproof rating, that was a surprise. No need for separate GPS, phone is wireless charged. Still really like the simplicity of beeline for local rides on the retro.
thanks, for the video! I bought my Beeline from ebay, it was in used condition but seemed to be working. Hovewer, when I started using with my ride, it simply switched off after a few seconds of navigation. And I couldn't fixed it and I couldn't return it because I bought from ebay. Anyways, I am not rider any more after I had an accident last year :) But looking at this video I can see that this device got a few updates only. Interestingly, Beeline has a second release of their Velo device for cyclists which looks more beautiful, elegant, with interesting features and surprisingly cheaper than Moto. It feels like Beeline develops Velo device more actively, than Moto.
Thats a shame and sorry to hear about your accident. Yes the Velo2 has a different interface and its cheaper. It has less than half the battery life of the moto, but that seem to be all. I wonder if the different display is a little small/complex for use on a motorcycle?
I've used the phone app in advance in a car to get used to the information that's on screen, which helped a bunch (you can use the app with the same arrow as shown on the device). Yes, it's not perfect for in-city navigation when you really want to see the map, but it's a nifty cheap device, with loads of battery life and does what it needs to do. If I ever want to upgrade, I would go for one of those Android Car devices that also act as a second screen for your phone. Good review!
Agree with everything you said & can see the positives , felt a little cheeted to find the Beeline app would work on your phone without the device if you wanted & makes the device seem rather pricey. One niggle i don't like is if you divert from their set routes & your even near to the destination it wants to send you back instead of re routing . All in all I'm happy with it & glad i have it.
It should reroute automatically, and if not you can press the button on the bottom to force a reroute. I've never had it try to take me back to the start of the route.
Very impressed with that Tony, looks a great little device.. nice to be be back with you as a subscriber again . Channel is as good as it always was. Maybe see you down in Finchingfield for a cuppa during the year. Cheers.
Thumbs up to Beeline for now including speed & clock display. I would buy one if: (a) The dial was anti-reflective. (b) It was half the asking price. (c) Available in a larger size.
I was one who doubted it but bought one last week and loving it after just one use. I don’t have the fun or fast option though here in NZ just route 1 or route 2
Fellow Kiwi here looking at getting one - a couple months later do you think it is worth it? I feel like it would be pretty useful and would use it for the moto and ebike
@@Scotch_and_Sew I haven’t used it that much but do really like it. If you want some thing just to help you out and prompt you of the route to take I reckon it’s pretty good. I don’t want to mount my phone to the bike etc.. but sometimes it’s helpful to know on a backroad trip that it’s this left coming up you are supposed to take.
I am usually a fan of no faff, and this seems to fit the bill. But, the thing with gps or phone is I can see the junction detail at a glabce, in advance when it zooms in. And even more, ' Lane assist', which has frequently made life really easy on a motorway/ European toll road where there are several options in either direction, and the town I need to head towards isn't on the plan board. But I like the simplicity, overall. I don't listen to my gos ir phone, I have jo headset. As Depeche Mode said, ' enjoy the silence '. Safe, happy travels 👍
Thanks Tony, I've had one for a couple of years but not really used it in anger because I mostly ride to places I know. The big thing I find missing is planning a ride with POI. I'd really like to be able to plan with fuel stops included. I've put the larger tank on my 2017 Bobber, but still get range anxiety lol. Yes, you chaps with big tourers, I hear you! 🙄
Having extensively ridden up and down the uk over the last 30 plus years I mostly (but not 100% always!) know where I am am going........that said, I use on of these (as well as a full blown sat nav esp in europe) and its genius - particularly for when I am on my CRF 250 and beating up and down green lanes and connecting roads etc where a phone on the bars is an expensive accident waiting to happen.
I love my beeline! It is currently doing a weird pixelated kind of thing after thousands of miles. I am not too worried though, because their customer service is top notch!
Great product with a few limitations. So long as you’re aware of them (it’s not a substitute for a full on sat nav) it’s a great product. I certainly wouldn’t use it for work (professional driver) or a long tour (it’s a great backup for the sat nav tho) but for riding from a to b or getting me out of a mess occasionally it’s great. Ps the iPad app works brilliantly in conjunction with the iPhone app for transporting routes easily from one to the other.
How can you hear voice prompts anyway? I can' barely hear anything when I have my helmet on. Good to know that you can add points -- will definitiely use this feature going forward. Found the Beeline much more useful than my phone - mainly because you can't see your dials - fuel gauge, speedometer etc when the phone is blocking the view.
I like mine, had it 18 months or just over. I miss the feature that recorded your ride and you could upload to your gallery. It was a nifty wee addition but was stopped some time ago. Once I got fully used to the way it counts down to roundabouts and exit selection, I’ve relied on it often :)
I love the idea of compass mode when touring. I hate slavishly following roads set by a navigation app and prefer to choose my own route according to what I see, with a bit of guidance on the direction of my destination.
I’ve used my Beeline to do a 1750 mile trip including the Highlands. The simplicity is a big plus. However I’ve stopped using it as it drives me mad when you miss a turn - it’s rerouting can be really bad, it’s sent me 5 miles down the road a few times only to do a u-turn when there were plenty of turn offs to use instead. It’s also not great at finding the exact finish point either, I found I was stopping all the time and taking my phone out my pocket and checking I was actually on the right track. Frustrating. The app on the other hand is great for planning routes on your phone, adding waypoints and then being able to physically move your route about is really handy.
I like mine, only thing I would like to see added is a small sound a few yards before the next turn, just as a reminder when there is a good few miles between turns. It would save quite a few glances at the screen to check you’re not going to/have missed anything
Thank you for a great, detailed review. I have been on on the fence for this product for over a year and although I'm a gadget guy willing to try most things this is still a pass for me. Two items still keep me from being a buyer. 1) what you mentioned about voice prompts, I understand they use google maps so technically not an issue to implement...although may be a pricing, licensing issue: I think there are plenty of people out there like me who would pay a little more for this option (user can turn on and off depending in if they like simplicity or not) as driving in anything outside the countryside, voice prompts are safer and helpful. 2) If Apple is being forced to adopt USB C for their charging, why haven't Beeline adopted this as well. We all have dozens of proprietary charges/cords which we don't need or want and having another separately charger last think anyone needs. If Beeline could change these two, I would be clicking "buy" tomorrow and I think many other potential users as well.
I've been using beeline moto for about 3 years now and on my 3rd one. 1st had a manufacturing defect and beeline replaced it immediately without quibble. The 2nd fell off by bike on QE2 bridge and totally my fault. When I'm making progress (68mph officer) I want to get the info I need with the briefest glance down so my attention can get back on the road. Garmins and Tomtoms and Google maps all have too much info. By the time I've found the distance and direction of next turn on Maps, at speed I may have travelled 200 yards. In traffic that's a big 'Nope'! P.s. amused to see many of your saved favourites are the same as mine 😂 (Duxford, Finchingfield etc.)
I got it since a few months and I'm learning to use it better. The only problem I see is when you have two roundabouts almost attached to each other (it happens in Italy). At that moment it is easy to make mistakes because there is no time to look at the device. But maybe you need to follow just the direction of the arrow. Then, not mindless but very practicle and effective.
I've run a BeeLine Moto for some time, it's easy and intuitive,I've imported GPX files and it has taken me down to the Sahara in Morocco successfully. A development I'd like to see is a flag to indicate coming up to a waypoint.
Love your vids, very informative, thank you. Have just bought beeline can you please tell me, does it offer a fun route on all destinations, mine seems not to.
I just bought one! I tend to remember my route in advance but often end up lost without trace :) I do have a mobile but I'm not keen on strapping something that size to my Royal Enfield. Out of curiosity, does the route planning work on "off road" routes like the TET? It might also be good for when I'm doing a trip on my electric unicyle!
Have it for over the year now, for me it missing two things! “Go home” button or setting option on the device itself, and swap between “fun” and “quickest” on a fly from the device also! Because every time there are any changes, you need to stop, take gloves off, get a phone out, reroute…. How many times you want get somewhere using Motorways first, then get onto small roads!
Nice video, pity you didnt cover how it connects to google maps, I would have liked to know more details on the practicality of that interacion. Stil thumbs up.
I purchased the Triumph version of the moto, only used it occasionally and it was in as new condition. Went to used it a couple of weeks back and it started up normally but saying there was an update available. So in the middle of the update it stopped. I contacted Beeline an they told me to try a few things which all failed and acually caused the display to bleed pixels. They then told me the unit has hardware problems and stated I would have to pay to have it repaired. The support email process took two weeks due to each time you reply to an email you get an automated response sayign the team will be in touch. Buyer Beware.
Have had mine for a couple of weeks now & really enjoying the "fun" routes. BUT my handle bars are a challenge--Vespa 946. Right now I have the bands on the mirror support, but not ideal viewing angle. Will try some stickier sticky mount, as what was included didn't stick to the textured finish of the "bars". But will figure it out as so far so l do find it easier to refer to vs phone map & less visual distraction. But I wish it could pull & drag to change roads to alter a route--I have Google Chromebook/Android, so maybe just slower getting that feature vs Apple devices? But will try downloading maps to the App now!
Unfortunately when I bought one, I needed it to go to the Kent Triumph from Hampshire but during the trip it decided to freeze. After half a dozen freeze ups it stated It would require an update. Not much good if your away from home! I had a very long ride home seeking known road signs to me but that was a town to town ride in heavy traffic. So I returned the unit sadly as I did like the idea of it!
Looks good, but no internet,no navigation? And what info does the app want to access from your phone?Xoes it need access to contacts, store personal data, etc, etc?
@@mancavemoto if you're in an area with no coverage, your phone won't have internet for the app to work,so there'll be no navigation. If your phone runs out of battery,it won't work either. Hope that makes sense? P.s,a lot of apps want info from your phone that they don't really need.
@ninjamaster7724 ah right I understand now. Once you’ve plotted the route all the device needs is a gps signal, so navigation will be uneffected. True if your phone is dead it won’t work, same as a nav app on your phone or a dedicated gps device.
in terms of the voice commands, I can see how it would make the device bulky with speakers loud enough to be heard plus would drain the battery significantly... I think this design works best.
I get that the Beeline has a 30 hour battery life but can you mount it with the charging cable fitting attached and keep the device plugged into the USB outlet on my bike?
Looks like in the US only certain states are covered by this option. I have the latest firmware but Virginia has not been added yet. Look forward to being added. Thanks for the info.
Horses for courses. I think phone mounts are quite cheap now especially if you get one marketed for bicycles, As adding the word Motorcycle gives the retailer licence to add ££££. However I really like the aesthetics of the Beeline and lets face it aesthetics is a large part of the reason we ride the machines we do. So I would like one, not for townie, urban Navs' but for longer "twisties" and B roads.... And for taking it off and showing it to mates in the Pub as a curio.
I would love them adding "shorter distance" mode, I used this option on my Garmin, it takes me through beautiful little roads in country side. The "fun" option is not always there so I end up up using my Beeline on a Velo mode as it then got better small roads to ride with my classic beemer, although I end up sometime in off road tracks, and the arrival time is obviously wrong... not good ...
How many gpx routes can you put in the app? I am planning one long trip with several routes prepared, and I was wondering if you could put them all in the app and select them when needed... Thanks.
Not sure if there is an upper limit, but you can import gpx files and save as routes, or create routes in the app and save them. I’ve currently got 8 routes a mix of both available to access in the app. Hope that helps
Tony can you pre program a route using android i.e. Samsung Tab S8? I priced up a Quad lock mount for my S23 Ultra and it's about £30 shy of a beeline 😮
I have one of these and had it quite a while. May be they could add in a noise, like a pip, that gets faster as the turning gets closer. ( for example) There is a big issue with them in my opinion, and that is when you have a complicated motor way junction for example, or a choice of 2 turns that are next to each other. I can think of quite a number of times this has happened to me, and it can really mess your afternoon if you end up having a 20 k detour
It was good while it worked. But unfortunately it's hardly IP67. I rode about 1-2 hours in drizzle and next morning the Beeline Moto died. The display first developed some stripes, few days later it wouldn't start at all 😞. IP67 means that it should withstand high pressure jets of water to immersion up to 1m. My Beeline Moto wasn't cracked, not even scratched, it never fell, etc.
It’s a review, just because the product doesn’t get slated doesn’t mean it’s not a review. It’s an objective video. I wasn’t paid and I bought the beeline myself. Although if you notice there is a Paid Promotion disclaimer at the start of the video, but that appears in all of my videos as I have channel sponsors, and under TH-cam rules I have to flag my content as Paid promotion regardless of if it’s relevant to my sponsors or not
Merci, je ne vois pas pourquoi le Velo 2 ne fonctionnerait pas sur une moto ? Je remarque que la durée de vie de la batterie est inférieure à la moitié de la version moto, mais ce n'est pas un problème pour vous.
I've got one, I use it on my africa twin with my Tom Tom rider ( ok do have Google maps but don't use it) I've put it as far up eye level and find it safer and excellent. You don't get speed limits or speed camera alerts and it still drains battery on phone, so have found keeping phone charging . Battery on beeline good lasts ages. I find it a compliments my Tom Tom rider and 99% of time use with Tom Tom for voice alerts. It is safer.
My device seems to have developed a bug It refuses to get linked to my Vivo X 80 blue tooth Is there any way i can do some trouble shooting I tried re installing the app several times but no luck so far
Thanks for the review i am interested in knowing if i can turn my phone reception off so i dont nuke my balls and still have this operate? Can the aGPS inside my iphone be accessed over bluetooth? I know my iphone works when i go out of range of cell towers when in the backcountry because it has a assisted GPS built in to it.
An attractive device but not well-suited for urban riding. Large intersections are okay but side streets and emerging on or off lanes are often missed. I can simply stick my phone in my pocket with voice prompts for the same general guidance.
Nothing is wrong with a phone, this is an alternative for those that don’t want to mount a phone, or prefer the look of a neater unit. Plus no other distractions or notifications popping up, and hours of use without needing a power supply.
The Beeline Velo 2 actually shows road layouts on the screen, it's still very simplistic LEDs but it's a huge improvement for junctions etc. Would be good to see this incorporated into the Moto version.
is the Velo 2 useable on a motorbike?

I think adding a charging port would make it less waterproof
Love this review. Definitely going to get one of those now :)
Have it, love it !!, Greetz from Austria 😃
Enjoy!
Great little device
Great review, plenty of information.
It should do, not sure if you’ll need to do a firmware or app update?
Thank you very much for reply, more investigation needed I think.
Thanks you answered several of my questions. How much is a pound worth these days in Canadian dollars
Not as much as it used to be! currently 1.73 dollars to the pound
To be honest i've not tried it offroad. It seesm to use google maps as a base, if that helps. Electric unicycle?! cool
Terrific video thanks man 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Very useful for me thanks, I think its just what I need.
Glad it was helpful!
Very neat device, thanks for the detailed review. Question: does it have a true compass function, showing N, E, S, W and the parts in between?
Handy and good for the money.
It doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not so can’t see the problem 👍🏻
Nice video, pity you didnt cover how it connects to google maps, I would have liked to know more details on the practicality of that interacion. Stil thumbs up.
The maps used are baked into the app, but I understand the fees comes from google maps
I like the Beeline. Doesn´t drain your phone battery much and is reliable and easy to use.....
Thanks for the info
Great video, thank you for the info! 🍻
No problem 👍
I purchased the Triumph version of the moto, only used it occasionally and it was in as new condition. Went to used it a couple of weeks back and it started up normally but saying there was an update available. So in the middle of the update it stopped. I contacted Beeline an they told me to try a few things which all failed and acually caused the display to bleed pixels. They then told me the unit has hardware problems and stated I would have to pay to have it repaired. The support email process took two weeks due to each time you reply to an email you get an automated response sayign the team will be in touch. Buyer Beware.
Excellent review well explained 😊
Thank you 🙂
Have had mine for a couple of weeks now & really enjoying the "fun" routes.
They do sell a scooter rear view mirror mount which may solvce your problem?
Suggestion they could simply add tones like apple maps uses when you have music playing. Tomes are directional for the turn coming up
Unfortunately when I bought one, I needed it to go to the Kent Triumph from Hampshire but during the trip it decided to freeze. After half a dozen freeze ups it stated It would require an update. Not much good if your away from home! I had a very long ride home seeking known road signs to me but that was a town to town ride in heavy traffic. So I returned the unit sadly as I did like the idea of it!
Do you know, whether there also are other options to mount the device? My handlebar is fully covered, riding a CityStar 125i, so...
They make a mount for the mirror arm, that might work?
@@mancavemoto Alright, haven't found that, yet. Thank you!
Looks good,but no internet,no navigation?
And what info does the app want to access from your phone?Xoes it need access to contacts, store personal data, etc, etc?
Not sure I understand the statement, it is a navigation device? All the app needs is a gps location
@@mancavemoto thanks mate.I still want 1 anyway.😄👍
Are they reliable, read lots of stuff online(I know not always a good thing) saying they have issues especially when out of warranty
I've never had a problem with mine, I don't have another point of reference other than that, sorry.
Charge time? Does it indicate the beginning a motorway exit ramp or the point where the exit ramp joins another road? Thanks.
It takes about an hour to fully charge. Yes it gives you a countdown distance to the start of a motorway exit
@@mancavemoto Thanks.
How is it with using chargers? Can you add this or has it POI to do so?
I only wish beeline did a powered mount that you can charge the beeline as you ride along!
Do you like it better then using the factory nav on the Tiger?
It’s much the same in terms of turn by turn, but this was much easier to connect and set up, I think the route planning is good too
in terms of the voice commands, I can see how it would make the device bulky with speakers loud enough to be heard plus would drain the battery significantly... I think this design works best.
Not if you have your phone connected to a headset, the directions would come from the app.
I see. I thought that was already a thing. I don’t own one yet. Thanks for the insight.
Is there a way to just show compass without having a specific route?
A really neat device. Would be nice if it worked with other navigation apps like Calimoto
can you use the beeline in conjunction with maps and use maps for the audio?
The Beeline has its own maps, but they appear to take feed from Google maps. There is no audio instruction option
I get that the Beeline has a 30 hour battery life but can you mount it with the charging cable fitting attached and keep the device plugged into the USB outlet on my bike?
The charger doesnt have a mount as such, but i guess you could fix it using velcro?
do you need to have your phone continuously connected to the device during the trip? or can you plan the route and disconnect it? thanks
Yes as it’s the phone that gives the gps signal to the beeline. You can lock the phone but it need to stay on
I’ve had my beeline for a couple of years. Didn’t know about the fastest route mode. Can’t seem to find an update for that. Suggestions? Thanks
If you do a firmware update via the app, that option should automatically appear
Looks like in the US only certain states are covered by this option. I have the latest firmware but Virginia has not been added yet. Look forward to being added. Thanks for the info.
What about roundabouts with multiple exits?
It shows you an exit number for the approaching roundabout.
Hello. Does the app support live traffic so as to calculate the most efficient route based on the current traffic?
How many gpx routes can you put in the app? I am planning one long trip with several routes prepared, and I was wondering if you could put them all in the app and select them when needed... Thanks.
Not sure if there is an upper limit, but you can import gpx files and save as routes, or create routes in the app and save them. I’ve currently got 8 routes a mix of both available to access in the app. Hope that helps
That helps a lot, my Garmin 660 is long overdue, so I want to try the Beeline before I buy the Garmin xt. Thanks!
Tony can you pre program a route using android i.e. Samsung Tab S8?
I priced up a Quad lock mount for my S23 Ultra and it's about £30 shy of a beeline 😮
Yes theres an Android app as well as iphone
What about connecting to Bluetooth if you also need to link your intercom to Bluetooth?
That will be down to how many connections your phone allows, no problem with multiple connections on my Iphone
At 9.09 which battery are you referring to; the bike's or the Beeline's?
The phones
How does turn reminders work (in settings)
What navigation app is it pulling info from? I typically use Waze because of the heads up for police/accidents/red light cameras
I actually prefer this version, very simple and mainly its used as an accurate speedometer
No mention of “paid promotion” or received for free & no criticism at all. So is it a review or promotion?
It’s a review, just because the product doesn’t get slated doesn’t mean it’s not a review. It’s an objective video. I wasn’t paid and I bought the beeline myself. Although if you notice there is a Paid Promotion disclaimer at the start of the video, but that appears in all of my videos as I have channel sponsors, and under TH-cam rules I have to flag my content as Paid promotion regardless of if it’s relevant to my sponsors or not
Mine last 2 months don't receive map informations even is connected its always in a searching mode ..😢
Should I buy one of them instead of satnav?
But it is a sat nav 😉
I get the principle in that to keep it simple but it doesn’t offer enough to me.
My device seems to have developed a bug
It refuses to get linked to my Vivo X 80 blue tooth
Is there any way i can do some trouble shooting
I tried re installing the app several times but no luck so far
Not trying to sound like a stupid question, but are you trying to connect the app? probably worth shooting an e-mail to Beeline
What about us Android users, or do you have to have an iPad?
No theres Android software too
Will it fit on a zx 6r 636?
Of course it is a small device and has universal support
An attractive device but not well-suited for urban riding. Large intersections are okay but side streets and emerging on or off lanes are often missed. I can simply stick my phone in my pocket with voice prompts for the same general guidance.
Does anyone know if I run this with a phone, can I also connect to a cardo? Running an IPhone 15.
Yes you can
What’s wrong with your phone ?
Nothing is wrong with a phone, this is an alternative for those that don’t want to mount a phone, or prefer the look of a neater unit. Plus no other distractions or notifications popping up, and hours of use without needing a power supply.
Phone sat nag or road signs 😊
🙄
Does it work with What 3 Words?
It does yes
Only with apple last time I asked unless it's now been updated
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
does it have petrol station
You can search for petrol stations and add as a waypoint on a exisiting route, or obviously just navigate directly
