How can it be a midlife crisis when he did the same thing 10 years ago? I guarantee the next woman who is unfortunate enough to get into a relationship with him WILL get pregnant because he wants to prove he's "not that guy anymore" and after that baby comes he'll cheat on her because according to him, she's "so busy with baby and tired at the end of the day that we never have sex. Poor me I had to jerk off to porn and fuck your sister just to get my MOJO back. If you had not trusted me, and followed me when I went out to get away from you instead of being there for you because you were upset about your mom dying, you would've known I was cheating on you".
And that is exactly how MOST of them became relevant on the show. Where did James come from? Kristen. Where did Ariana come from? Sandoval. Where did Lauren come from? James. Where did Raquel come from? James. There are only some originals and then there are add ons. Fun fact....ALL of the add ons cheated/slept their way onto the show.
I don't think James was "making moves for attention." As someone who has followed the shows for years, I think it's been pretty obvious James was quite hurt over Raquel breaking off the engagement. He may be dating Ally, but he's always displayed hurt/jealousy over Raquel despite this. Then he finds out his "friend" Tom is sleeping with her secretly. I can't blame James for being up in arms - and his behaviors are just part of his personality. He's naturally sassy and sarcastic. Lol. That's not an act. 😄
Totally! If you've been watching James since he joined as that bratty ass 21 year old it makes sense. We've seen the dysfunction of his family, his drinking and anger issues and how he did grow while sober but also still struggles emotionally, how he jumps from one relationship to the next and tends to go over the top with all of them, etc-- I do think he is a complex person. He's also the only one who has even tried to mature out of all the male cast. He's a dick but he's also made for TV
I've been following since Season 2 and 100% back everything this psychologist is saying. He is not nearly that deep, he feeds off attention and that class clown energy. It's always been beyond cringy

I believe some men are sexually attracted to women and emotionally attracted to men. Sandoval has deep feelings for Schwartz.
This show is a little different in that they follow a group of friends with a long history, some of them have known each other for over 20 years. That's what makes it good. It's not contrived like The Housewives. These are genuine relationships and they are really that crazy. The pain is genuine as well.
I agree and disagree as I have seen some of them gain bigger egos and seem more fake over time. 😊

James has a back story of childhood trauma. He was severly bullied as a kid. Kids twisted his leg until it literally broke. His parents are really messed up and he financially supports them now. I feel for this kid.

But, now he is a man. I feel bad for the child he once was. Just like I feel bad for the mistreated child anyone who does wrong once was. Whether that person is now a douche, a criminal or an attention seeker.
But, now he is an adult and responsible for being the person he is today.
He has matured since he started therapy and he did have massive trauma. His mother was just outrageous and if you watch her you can see why if you look at his Mother . Take a look at that as it will be a real eye opener on why he acts this way.

This is James from the start. I've always liked him because he is authentic and what you see if what you get. He is maturing each season, but he still cannot regulate his emotions.

I believe James is genuinely hurt on multiple levels and as someone with poor coping skills and childhood trauma, his way of responding to hurt is by lashing out. I do not believe his core personality is attention seeking but rather more connected to emotional immaturity and repressed anger. The more I get to know james, explosive tendencies at all, the more endeared to him I am. The thing I appreciate about him the most is that he owns his mistakes and does genuinely apologize and recognize that he doesn’t understand why he responds the way that he does sometimes. I just think that he needs to find the right healing tools to heal himself which you can tell he really wants for himself. Maybe some microdosing of mushrooms might help him! 😅
I think he’s attention seeking based on how he grew up as a child and with his parents issues. That’s my unprofessional regular person opinion.
It’s text book behaviour of an alcoholic… when he was sober and addressing his issues he didn’t have tantrums, triggers and outbursts… his emotions were regulated… that all goes out of the window once an alcoholic invests alcohol… I’m not calling him an alcoholic by the way… he has called himself one…

And really Kristin cheated on Tom with James before her and Tom broke up and in their bed so they’ve all cheated and all situations were wrong. @@chellbell7899 i wouldn’t say it has anything to do with the times we are in because while it is true that everyone cheated, the magnitude of betrayal and deceit by far outweighs any of those situations for two main reasons. One, this was a full blown affair lasting 7 months or more and two which is the most sketchiest detail of all is that Raquel did this to one of her best friends and one of the only people that had her back when the rest of the group couldn’t stand her. Not only did she do this right under Ariana’s nose, she also slept with Tom while she was in her house. To add to that, the complete lack of remorse, empathy plus the blame shifting. This is on a whole other scale that doesn’t even come close to the rest. So I am going to respectfully disagree with you completely. This was no drunken mistake or one night stand. 👀This was calculating and gross and shows you the type of selfish snakes these two people are.
Agree with Layla that Sandoval is dangerous (to women):
1. Cheating with close friend
2. Gaslighting, especially when caught
3. Was okay with Schwartz to hook up with someone he slept with. That’s complete disrespect. He made her a “toy”.
4. He is destroying his “love partner” Arianna to save himself by saying she was suicidal, she refused to break up, she was threatening , etc.
5. Saying lack of sex is a reason for cheating
6. Rachel lacking mental wellness and taking advantage of that to do an affair because it was good for his ego.

I hated James for many seasons. I liked when he got sober and I like his new girlfriend. I hope he can keep,her around because she’s good for him
how is she good for him? she laughed when he called Raquel and flat out bullied here on the phone. lala and katie was there laughing as well. you all have blinders on. all of these people in the cast are wrong. they have no morals, and they think bullying is ok. when you all laugh an agree with any of it makes you no better.

As somebody who has watched the show since the beginning I can tell you I now love James he has his issues because of his parents and he did look at Tom as an older sibling because he had nobody and he also looked at Ariana as an older sibling so right now he has her back because he sees how sick it is
I agree with everything you said about James. As someone who’s watched every season, I have noticed patterns and behaviors in the cast. In one of the first episodes of season 1 Tom Sandoval said, “my dream is to be famous, not like Michael Jackson fame, but for everyone to know who I am and have my picture taken by paparazzi and to have my own cover band. That would be my perfect scenario” He also said he wanted to be an actor. He thought he was a great actor, who could win an Oscar if he ever got a ‘break’ So I’ve always questioned Tom’s sincerity. He never came off as genuine to me.
James Kennedy was so young when he started. The DJ, self proclaimed “white Kanye” may have come off as arrogant or cocky, but I felt like he was masking insecurity and acceptance. James’ biggest fear has always been rejection. Any time he was excluded from trips or parties you could see how deeply affected he was. I don’t think it has anything to do with ‘air time’ I believe he felt rejected. There’s obviously trauma from his childhood. He’s spoken about being bullied and not accepted by kids in school. That’s carried into his adulthood. He looked up to Tom. The affair with Rachel upset him so deeply because of Tom’s betrayal, not Rachel’s. You saw that in his reaction to Tom downplaying their friendship!

He knows that Ally will join them later, so being angry at Rachel wouldn't look good for his relationship. But yes, i do think he looked up to Tom and feels betrayed. You don't have to talk to someone everyday to consider them as family, but that's just my opinion

I wonder....can James be both? Can he be a huge attention seeker but also have some deep pain and anger for the betrayal of what both he and especially Ariana have been through? Can an attention seeker not have genuine pain? Can he be pained and act out but then also relish in trying to be the attention whore of the group or the fight. I'm curious about that. He WAS engaged to Rachel, and although he was a real jerk to her many times especially when he drank, it's clear that he did love her or at least felt he did and it's the reason he moved on to Ally so quickly. Trying to prove to Rachel that he is over her but he is actually not over her?? He can't be alone...he's got to pretend he doesn't feel heartbreak? I'm curious about that.

Couldn't it be both? Could an attention whore also be acting out...even though it's not an excuse at all....what he sees on tv, could that even be attention seeking mixed with pain and not just the attention seeking as the Psychologist claims. I get that he only knows a limited amount of backstory but he's certain he only sees the attention seeking, which we all know James is a silly loud person, but does that mean all these actions from James is attention seeking without the pain? Does he think then that James never loved Rachel and instead relishes on just being the one in the spotlight? You are most welcome to give your thoughts on that. I appreciated you responding.

Love James during the reunion. He made a heavy situation funny for a few seconds at a time. James normally is a bully. He bashes people's looks like a kid in grade school.
And he is at his worst when he has been drinking.

James has grown on me over the years. He's been through a lot and still seems to be going through a lot. I don't necessarily think he's looking for attention as much as I think he doesn't have a full handle on how to get his emotions across. He's come a long way though, he's pretty witty and does add some well needed comic relief to this show that's become very dramatic and kind of dark. Andy is probably over the moon with scandoval.

I don't know if you have watched the entire series but if you have, you would know that this IS James being hurt.. This is how he shows it, with humour and his quick wit. He is supporting the girls and providing much needed comic relief.. He's perfect 👌

As someone who is married to someone with ADHD - everything about James just makes sense to me. After all, he is officially diagnosed and idk why people forget this about him. It explains a lot about his behaviour, e.g. impulsivity, interrupting and excessive talking etc. Also, Andy yelling at him to just stay and sit still, is just classic. As a psychologist, I'm surprised you didn't notice these behaviours as a part of his ADHD. Instead, you see him as attention seeking and that he “lacks any and all depth”. Pretty harsh of you to say, I think you need to check in with your own reactions and observations about him. I wish you would talk about Tom's gaslighting and deflecting, that's way more interesting to hear about from a psychologist perspective!
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree! Typical ADHD behavior from James and he likes attention and he’s hurt that Raquel moved on so quickly from him…that was humiliating for him. I think Sandoval is the definition of a douchbag but I agree I would have loved more of an analysis of his personality issues.
It's not the ADHD, it's his personality and ignorant comments. He states that he thinks he's something special( previous episodes, not verbatim).

Truth be told, there are some things I respectfully disagree with in some of your opinions due to the fact that there have been 10 seasons of this show and you haven’t seen all the dynamics in their relationships.
Do I think James is wanting attention? 100% but this is also for cameras and show, hitting out when he really is hurt. This is his way of “dealing” with his feelings to make himself feel better.
It’s like a child acting out acting out because they want attention or to be heard from various people. Or people who clown around and is the “prankster” to hide their emotions/hurt.
James has been financially supporting his parents (both problematic, both alcoholics) and family for years (also was responsible for all of Raquel’s bills while they were together). I doubt he got much attention and parenting at home. Even James’ mother said LVP was like a mother figure to him. I think that’s why he enjoys Ally being in control, Sandoval taking a big brother role etc. He has issues, he’s sensitive, aggressive, picks things like age and weight to insult people but he’s interesting.
He’s passionate, hardworking, can be very vulnerable and funny. He has had bad behaviour when drinking many times and can be immature but I think he genuinely tries to be better and has grown as a person. I would be very angry and humiliated to have my fiancé break up with me in front of all the cast crew and world then get together with a close friend. He fought hard for those friendships they were not welcoming to him and it was Sandoval and Lala he connected to most. And then the group easily jumped ship to befriend Raquel after they split.
Oh and sleeping with Kristen to get on the show? James was family friends with Lisa. He had known Tom less than a week and Tom wanted to make music with him. James really didn’t have any loyalty to anyone at that point. He was 21 and Kristen was 28 and Tom older.
Sandoval wanted Schwartz to make out, and push that as a distraction. Tom would get off on the idea of Schwartz and Raquel if anything. Its why schwartz was making those comments camping about Raquel only liking other people’s men. They would laugh about it like it was a joke, but he was being truthful. Then made it like a joke, laughing it up with Ariana. He is as fucked up as Sandoval, it just presents differently. And Sandoval feels zero guilt. These boys have been covering, lying and being decoys for each other since day 1. Hooking up with Schwartz would never have stopped Sandoval. And it was happening longer than 7 months. And we all know James is toxic, But he brings the levity needed on this show, and we have seen personal growth with him. The bar was low, but each tear he seems to be evolving into a better human. He does have childhood drama. His dad has been getting him drunk since he was a kid, and his mom at the beginning of this season was screaming at him for not GIVING her more money. You would have thought he owed her alimony. So where he is now, compared to where I would have guessed 5 years ago, nowhere close, in a good way. But still wouldn’t want anyone I care about to date him, although, Ally seems to have him in check. So we shall see. But yeah, some of your takes are way off, cause you don’t have the history to understand their choices. 😊

Lala said it best even before the affair was out in the open. Raquel is a pageant girl. Everything is a competition.She competed for James to get on the show; she competed with Oliver once Lala said he was cute; she competed for Schwartz against Katie; the big competition was to get Sandoval away from Ariana. Without the excitement of sneaking around, it won't be the same and she will move on. I wouldn't put it past her to go after Lala's ex, Randall, just to tick her off.

I've been watching VPR since day 1 and I think I can speak for the way most of us fans feel... most of us didn't love or even like James until this season. We see what you see. He does pretty much everything for attention. He thrives on it. But since he's 1 of 3 guys on the show now... and we know what the other 2 have been upto, he has now become the #1 guy! You are really accurate on your analysis. I would love to hear your analysis on Ariana. Many girls online are upset that she continues to get all this attention... since Tom Sandoval cheated on Kristen with Ariana and she lied for Tom about hooking up with "Miami Girl." Ariana was never a favorite of mine but I love her now and it's probably because I find her more relatable now since I was cheated with my best friend many many years ago. I can't wait for you analysis of Rachel/Raquel! Andy is the best! I wish he could interview Sister Wives lol! I usually never watch any of the Bravo show reunions because I can't stand the yelling over eachother but I am living for these VPR reunions! Lol!
It's important to know also that James is a malignant alcoholic in denial. He quit drinking for (what? a year?) then decided, he can easily "have a couple drinks now and then." But he gets wasted and then gets kicked out of restaurants and bars for being belligerent. That isn't normal behavior. 99% of people have never been thrown out of any establishment in their lives. For James, it's so common, the friend group is like, "Of COURSE James was asked to leave." And when he gets drunk, he gets verbally abusive in the most vicious way.
I bartended for a number of years. This behavior is actually quite common from alcoholics. I can’t tell you how many I’ve thrown out of the establishments I worked at.

@@AGramzyLife-ie6ti she didn’t cheat rewatch the episode Tom was driving the car and she asked him permission he said ok. Ariana did not cheat with Lala. He said the only reason he didn’t participate is because he was mad because he had been at a car dealership all day and they were drunk. He was mad he had to pick them up.

Kristen and Tom were together for 7 years and she and Ariana worked together and were friends (not besties but still friends). Kristen was alienated from her friend group and completely dropped after Tom and Ariana made it official. Go back and watch. Tom and Ariana had an affair period. They were together 9 years but like I said, Tom and Kristen were together 7 and lived together!

I need to mention this . The amount of footage is actually enormous on this show and this is all editing. I can actually tell that they took breaks . I know that James is a person who does go the therapy and he has matured but he really seems to want to be accepted. I am wondering if Jax is watching and laughing his ass off!
This is what basically what my husband and I do while watching the show - but lacking a phd in psych. Please do more Vanderpump. This season is the best season to pick apart because of the friendship shifts, weightier emotional questions and the petty grievances are always fun.

I actually think James is pretty smart and for all his problems he reads ppl pretty well. LaLa is very dramatic, dangerous is strong and inaccurate. I think Ariana is the total package and she will be ok. You’re right about Andy. He knows the line between asking the hard question and being hostile and confrontational.

Thanks for these - love your analyses, which are pretty good for a VPR newcomer. If you get a chance to start viewing from season 1 (believe me, it would be worth your while!), PLEASE share your individual impressions about original cast members Jax Taylor (government name Jason Cauchi) and mean girl Stassi Schroeder (neither one has been on the show since the end of season 8). Jax in particular would probably make an interesting psych case study. Lacking in both empathy and true conscience (although he knew how to fake both to get back in people’s good graces after screwing up), Jax was the blueprint for the Tom Sandoval we see now, in my opinion. Anyway, from a devotee since day one, welcome to the VPR universe!
Andy Cohen should do the Sister Wives tell all interviews. He might get answers to the tough questions.

Thank you. Lala is really venting her anger at Randall since she has no physical contact with him. I was thinking that as I watched .. I believe James loves Raquel, feels betrayed by she and Sanduvaul, and is also acting out for attention. He and Lala are definitely acting out their personal issues and thus gives them a platform. James' current girl should run for the hills.
