Thank you for posting this video. My uncle's names is inscribed on a panel in that beautiful cemetery, which i will probably never see. He was one of 1,000+ men who died in the sinking of the USS Houston on Feb. 1, 1942. He was only 23 when he sacrificed everything, while his three siblings all survived for 70+ more years. I truly appreciate anyone who takes the times to reflect on the high cost paid for lives of luxury hundreds of millions people live today.

Unbelievable how much Manila has changed since I was there in 1968. There were no skyscrapers back then. Spent a full day at this cemetery and still did not get to take it all in. Tugs at your heart strings to learn what these people endured and the sacrifice they made in the name of freedom.
My uncle was a Phil Scout, stationed there at Ft McKinley before the war and fought defensive battles from Pangasinan to Bataan and finally Corregidor. Some of his buddies are buried there. My other uncle was USAFFE, he died at Camp O'Donnell in Capas, Tarlac shortly after the Bataan Death March. Growing up back in the 1960's, April 9 was a solemn day, most of the adults (parents) experienced the war and they never let us, kids forget the hardships and misery they endured and always be grateful to God for our many blessings.
Yes, These USMC with the Filipino marines fought long and hard against the Japanese.. against all Odds. They hold out long and could of been saved.. yet no help ever came. RIP Hero

My dad was assigned a year before the return of US soldiers as a radioman to keep communications open between the resistance and US command. It’s why I came to the RP in 2003 to walk in my dad’s footsteps. What many don’t know is that many of the bodies were repatriated as per the families request. Now retired I spend 6 months each year in the RP and love the people of thePhilippines. Living in Taguig allowed me to visit this peaceful place. It’s well worth the time to reflect on the cost of Freedom.

American cemetery in Manila is the biggest American cemetery in the world. But those Americans buried there are those who died in the Philippines and neighboring small countries.
I took my son there in 2006. It's heart-stopping. For every US serviceman laid to rest, there is an equal number (if not more) Filipino Scouts listed there.
An outstanding tour of what is probably the most beautiful and peaceful place in the Philippines. I live in the Philippines, and do have a relative buried at that cemetery in BGC, Captain James E. McMillan, Army Air Force, died in a plane crash on Luzon in the Philippines on April 4, 1945. A graduate of Princeton University, he entered the service in February 1941, ten months before Pearl Harbor, and served nearly the entire war in the Pacific fighting in the New Guinea, Australia, Netherlands East Indies, and Philippine campaigns. The sacrifices there were huge. About 17,000 are buried there, and another 36,285, whose bodies were not able to be recovered, are Memorialized in the large memorial. It is the largest American Military Cemetery outside of the United States.
Filipino children really need to know this history and about this place. -- Their people were a proud and tremendously brave bunch back then so that all may be free today ! -- American's were allied with their efforts to be free and remain so to this day. -- Recently partnered again with 4 naval bases in the S. China sea for protection from a ruthless Chinese Navy in recognized international waters. -- This is wonderful reminder here that - " freedom isn't free " - a terrible price was paid !

As expected, video quality, music and narration are on point (eerily solemn and somewhat moving). Kudos to you man, for taking time to research this. My father was a WW2 veteran who fought together with the american soldiers against Japanese forces. He died in 2017 at age 98. We didnt bury him in this memorial park because it's very far from our place. Thanks for showing the world of this america's biggest cemetery here in the Philippines.🇵🇭🌹🌹🌹

And I cant forget those stories, because he made a book about his life, childhood, life before war and after war. You can't bury it either way in this memorial cemetery because it is only exclusive for the fallen soldiers of World War II, not for survivors. You can bury your father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, which is where soldiers who died in today's era rest. Anyways RIP to your father and thanks to him for serving our country.

Perfect timing watching this video. Today is Memorial Day here in the USA. We honor all the service members that gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country. Not just here but around the world especially there in my home country the Philippines. I’m myself is a retired service member here but there is nothing compare what this service member have to give to have this freedom that we have right now. American soldiers fought alongside Filipino soldiers in the Philippines, and many lost their lives in the battle. The US also provided significant military and economic aid to the Philippines during the war.

Thank you much. Not only were the Philippine South fighting but so many Filipinos not actually in the military fought and died. My father-in-law fought and thankfully didn't loose his life.
My father was a World War II Veteran-a Philippine Army- USAFFE- He suffered a lot like our heroes in that time both Filipinos and American. He is one of the Prisoners of war. His work is to dig a soil wherein the died soldiers both Filipinos and Americans will put into grave. He doesn't want to hold the death because he think that one day he will be the one to put in the grave lifeless. that's why he preferred to dig the grave for them. until such time Death March came. my father thankful to God because many of them survived. I am proud to my father and to all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom. He is telling his story to his grand children and us his children of what was happening during that time, and he was crying all the time. I used their stories to my students how they sacrificed their lives- for the love of our country. He died last July, 1998 but he is not buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. Salute to all the soldiers. We love you.

BGC is formerly an American Camp which is called Fort Mckinley then it was turned over to the Philippine Military and was named Fort Bonfacio in honor of Andres Bonifacio who led the revolt against against the Spaniards to gain independence however assassinated by henchmen believed to be Generals led by Emilio Aguinaldo who established the Philippines Revolutionay Goverment then years later it was turned ito a Business Center and was named today as Bonifacio Global City..👍

Filipino servicemen who fought along side with the Americans are also buried there side by side. The Philippines was American colony then commonwealth, not too many people knows this.

You should go to Corregidor the ultimate history book you will ever learn about WWII. Corregidor is just 30 perry ride from BGC. YEP! My grandfather was a USAF gunner in Corregidor. My mother, is very special - she was born there. I wish i could bring her remain and bury there when she passed in Canada.

My mother was 8 my Dad 9 years old when WWII broke in the Pacific. My parent's family were forced to leave their homes and evcuated in the mountains of Nueva Vizcaya in the island of Luzon, Philippines. My paternal grandparents home were burned, their crops and farm animals were seized by the Japanese. They flee to the mountains leaving all their belongings behind. 😢 My father in law enlisted in the US army when war broke and fought in New Guinea and in the historic Battle of Leyte, in the Philippines.

Like my grandpa said the ww2 against Japanese were really brutal he also took part and defended the country together with the fil-chi community which is also buried there and also hand in hand fought with Americans there was a medal they gave out in accordance with it. My father was denied veterans benefit because the US do not honour the records provided by the Philippine Army that my father was drafted by the US SEATO to fight in World War II. My father retired as a full colonel in the AFP having continued his service after the war ended. The US did all they can to deny our Filipino veterans benefits. They passed all sorts of legislation to block this.

It is mostly the survivor's families that have issues with these benefits, but the ones who really fought in the war don't mind much because they are living with what they fought for while their companions who died never tasted it, hence they are thankful. Always, it is the families; it may be American or Filipino bringing up this issue; it is as if they are the ones who fought for the country. 😂😂😂😂😂

I think the deceased Aussies ,God rest there soul , escaped from POW camps in Sarawak .We were busy fighting the japanese further south .

You can't bury it either way in this memorial cemetery because it is only exclusive for the fallen soldiers of World War II, not for survivors. You can bury your father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, which is where soldiers who died in today's era rest. Anyways RIP to your father and thanks to him for serving our country.

Perfect timing watching this video. Today is Memorial Day here in the USA. We honor all the service members that gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country. Not just here but around the world especially there in my home country the Philippines. I’m myself is a retired service member here but there is nothing compare what this service member have to give to have this freedom that we have right now. American soldiers fought alongside Filipino soldiers in the Philippines, and many lost their lives in the battle. The US also provided significant military and economic aid to the Philippines during the war.

Thank you much. Not only were the Philippine South fighting but so many Filipinos not actually in the military fought and died. My father-in-law fought and thankfully didn't loose his life.
My father was a World War II Veteran-a Philippine Army- USAFFE- He suffered a lot like our heroes in that time both Filipinos and American. He is one of the Prisoners of war. His work is to dig a soil wherein the died soldiers both Filipinos and Americans will put into grave. He doesn't want to hold the death because he think that one day he will be the one to put in the grave lifeless. that's why he preferred to dig the grave for them.
until such time Death March came. my father thankful to God because many of them survived. I am proud to my father and to all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom. He is telling his story to his grand children and us his children of what was happening during that time, and he was crying all the time. I used their stories to my students how they sacrificed their lives- for the love of our country. He died last July, 1998 but he is not buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. Salute to all the soldiers. We love you.

The Medal of Honor is the U.S. Armed Forces highest military decoration and is awarded to recognize American military members for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty. Even the WW2 are very brutal tragedy here in the Phillipines,made by the Japanese to Filipino and American soldiers on 1945. But now you see po,the three Country are unite and friends. Especially Filipino we dont hate Japanese, The past is the past.we forgive them.We foreigners.

I visited that cemetery when i was in Manila in 2022; it was very humbling...very well kept; the museum was also wonderful.

BGC is formerly an American Camp which is called Fort Mckinley then it was turned over to the Philippine Military and was named Fort Bonfacio in honor of Andres Bonifacio who led the revolt against against the Spaniards to gain independence however assassinated by henchmen believed to be Generals led by Emilio Aguinaldo who established the Philippines Revolutionay Goverment then years later it was turned ito a Business Center and was named today as Bonifacio Global City..👍

Filipino servicemen who fought along side with the Americans are also buried there side by side. The Philippines was American colony then commonwealth, not too many people knows this.

You should go to Corregidor the ultimate history book you will ever learn about WWII. Corregidor is just 30 perry ride from BGC.

My mother was 8 my Dad 9 years old when WWII broke in the Pacific. My parent's family were forced to leave their homes and evcuated in the mountains of Nueva Vizcaya in the island of Luzon, Philippines.
My paternal grandparents home were burned, their crops and farm animals were seized by the Japanese. They flee to the mountains leaving all their belongings behind. 😢
My father in law enlisted in the US army when war broke and fought in New Guinea and in the historic Battle of Leyte, in the Philippines.

Like my grandpa said the ww2 against Japanese were really brutal he also took part and defended the country together with the fil-chi community which is also buried there and also hand in hand fought with Americans there was a medal they gave out in accordance with it. I hope everyone who fought in ww2 will not be forgotten they fought for the freedom of this generation and it should not be wasted.

My father was denied veterans benefit because the US do not honour the records provided by the Philippine Army that my father was drafted by the US SEATO to fight in World War II. My father retired as a full colonel in the AFP having continued his service after the war ended. The US did all they can to deny our Filipino veterans benefits. They passed all sorts of legislation to block this.

It is mostly the survivor's families that have issues with these benefits, but the ones who really fought in the war don't mind much because they are living with what they fought for while their companions who died never tasted it, hence they are thankful. Always, it is the families; it may be American or Filipino bringing up this issue; it is as if they are the ones who fought for the country. 😂😂😂😂😂
