Hi, I watch regularly your videos, it helps me clean my house. I recently got all the items for the diffuser some reason I’m not getting any small I use 91 percent rubbing alcohol instead of vodka. The issue is I’m not getting any smell out of it. I used tree tree oil and Eucalyptus’s oil 30 drops combined.
I just did my spring yard cleaning and cut back our ornamental grass reeds. I trimmed the tops off and went down about 12 inches. pulled a few chaffs off the reed and was good to go. I Love Free. Thanks for your recipe
Thanks Melissa your video was so much better than others on TH-cam. Much more thorough and your measurements made sense! I love that you are so real with your teachings.
Hi Amanda!Instead using this reed diffusers ,take a tissue paper.Fold it square and add 5 drops of your favourite essential oil and keep it where you need. Change the tissue after a week. Trust me it works wonder than these reed diffusers.Have a fragrance day.
I saw a video of those 5 minute craft experts you know where they teach you hacks for an easier way to get things done.... Anyway, they where talking about how to keep unwanted insects and rodents out with plants. One was to have a fresh pot of peppermint to keep ants out. Another was lavender to keep flies out... But the hack here was to add three to 7 drops of essential oil to a sponge and put it in a jar.... So I guess sponges are the new reeds....
Like many other commenters, it didn’t work for me either. After thinking it over here are my thoughts about it: 1. You mentioned that water and oil don’t mix. That’s true. But Vodka is made out of about 60% water isn’t it?!? 2. More over you said the vodka is used to thin the oil. How exactly can a solvent that contains 60% water (vodka) thin any oil? 3. You mentioned that if we choose to use rubbing alcohol we should use one with at least 90% because the 75% version won’t work. So how would you expect vodka, which only has 40% alcohol to work?? 4. I’m just sad I wasted the ingredients on this alchemy trial before thinking it through..
I came across with the same problem with the alcohol volume.... I used the 40% rubbing alcohol just to experiment for the first time, but it did not work. I bought the same vodka bottle today but because of this video and your observation I might as well just drink it all up.... Where can I find a more strong rubbing alcohol at?
Hey you know what? You should do a video or series of videos about cleaning with limitations. For example, I have knee problems so I can't get on my hands and knees to clean grout, or cleans under a desk or other tight spaces, and because of the way my home is, if I want to fill a bucket or something with water to use with my mop, I have to lift the bucket and fill it with water at which point it becomes way too heavy, so I've been looking for a solution for mopping that doesn't involve filling something with a large amount of water. So maybe a video or more addressing those kinds of problems and how to work around them.
I have thought about working with an OT to create some videos on this topic. It's something I've been asked about a lot...so it is on my radar. I'll do what I can! Thanks for asking :)
Aedelias did you ever find a solution? you can buy a dustpan and position it that the water hits the large section of the pan then runs along the handle before dropping off the edge into a bucket
Look into a Vileda mop. It’s like a reusable swiffer but way better!! You don’t need a heavy gross bucket , you have a small reservoir you fill with whatever cleaner you want, and there’s pads on the “head” that are washable so very eco friendly! I went from hating mopping to liking it!
Love this idea. I have lots of amber bottles that I am not using and it does work. I use the very porous reed stick. I also use grape seed oil as carrier oil, clear vodka, peppermint, lemon and frankincense essential oil. Smell is strong.
Maybe I missed it but I only heard you talk about the price being a downside of store-bought diffusers. The ingredients are often really toxic! Thanks for sharing this. I am absolutely going to try and find where I can buy what I need to make my own. What a great investment.
Love the classic lavender/vanilla mix and anything citrus like. Because we have dogs I will continue to use the DYI deodorizer baking/soda + oil version you taught us but can't wait to try the diffuser with eucalyptus when I am sick :). Love you guys!
Hi lovely, I upcycle pretty bottles from a good will store here in Australia. I use safflower oil, fragrance and methylated spirits. Works a treat! Love your channel!
Melissa, I tried this exactly like the video said but I don't smell anything. I used a dark glass bottle with a small opening, almond oil, vodka, 30 drops of essential oil and rattan reeds. I Left it overnight and then flipped the reeds the next morning. I tried several different combinations around the house but I can't smell any of them. Did I miss a step? Please help! Thanks
Love this! I love the idea of mixing my own scents. I love the smell of lavender, but I'm allergic to lavender. Maybe I can figure out a way to get a similar smell, without actually having to use lavender lol

I'm so glad I found your channel, I wish I'd found it sooner. My first attempts at reed diffusers didn't work, and now I know why! I really hope to hear from you or from your subscribers. Thanks!

Great DIY! Not going to try it soon though, because I'm pregnant. I have another question: a few weeks ago annoying little insects started coming out of all the drains of our appartment. Do you have any idea how to get rid of them?
hi, nice tutorial there. i want to ask some questions : 1. how long will it last until it's empty with that much stick? 2. if i dont flip the stick, can the oil still penetrate to the end of upper stick? 3. can i use 1 or 2 stick for 5m x 3m bathroom? 4. how long does it last if i store it without using it after i made it? i will close the opening of the bottle with cap, so it wont evaporate. I really appreciate your opinion, Thanks much
To make the reed defuser for the same amount of safflower oil instead of using essential oil can I use fragrant oil? If yes, how many drops?( as we know fragrant is more stronger then essential oil)

looking forward to your reply, thank you very much!
I had the same question- did you try it?
Nice video, clear and eazy to make a Diffuser, like it. ;D. and I also recommend the oil I used, Like artnaturals, ISUDA, new, I bought them on amazon
Melissa, I did everything you said and it smells nothing! I don't understand what went wrong. Could you help me please?
Can I reuse the reeds for the next mixture I make? Or do the get "used up" after a while?
Great DIY! Not going to try it soon though, because I'm pregnant.
I have another question: a few weeks ago annoying little insects started coming out of all the drains of our appartment. Do you have any idea how to get rid of them?
You should look Melissa's video about BORAX ! ;-)
hi, nice tutorial there. i want to ask some questions :
1. how long will it last until it's empty with that much stick?
2. if i dont flip the stick, can the oil still penetrate to the end of upper stick?
3. can i use 1 or 2 stick for 5m x 3m bathroom?
4. how long does it last if i store it without using it after i made it? i will close the opening of the bottle with cap, so it wont evaporate.
I really appreciate your opinion, Thanks much
I will try it where do you get the defusing product and are they expensive?
Hi just wanted to know if one could use coconut oil also?
Amy
To make the reed defuser for the same amount of safflower oil instead of using essential oil can I use fragrant oil? If yes, how many drops?( as we know fragrant is more stronger then essential oil)
Can someone please tell me why my diffuser can’t make any smell ? I followed the directions with rubbing alcohol 91 percent. Thanks.
The way you play with those reeds baby
Dear Melissa, I would like to ask what is the thing that makes votka work as the percent of alcohol is way less than 75%?
