- Incredible run apart from the two deaths in 8-6 which cost over a minute. 2:08 is a very real thing now so I've decided I will go for it but not until the summer. This grind really stressed me out so I'm happy to put it behind me.

Proud for this have been my first time seeing a full DKC:R playthrough :)
I never went past the first stage, didn't like it until tropical freeze
I love watching awesome speedruns of games i used to play as a kid
I loved that game when i was younger. Spent a lot of time replaying the levels to get all the collectibles. Watching the same game beeing played at this level is hilarious. Awesome run !

I can hardly beat 8-7 in two hours. You can beat the whole game in two hours.

This is damn impressive. This game is so hard. Looks like a fun game to speedrun though
i always thought these levels were long. this speed run makes it seem like they didnt do enough to make these levels very long.
TIL that the loading screen actually uses surround sound and lets you hear what part of the screen they are in
the 5-2 was so unbelievably painful i probably would have reset lmao
15 seconds in world 5 is nowhere near reset worthy unless you want 2:07 or something. 8-6 was a lot worse.
Are you gonna try running the Switch versión when it comes out?
Absolutely fantastic run, as a (former) DKC Returns IL runner, seeing such a consistently high level of execution across the whole game is extremely impressive. I do have one question though, and it involves overworld routing: do you know if it's faster to do 1-4 and 1-K right away with the rest of W1 or would it be faster to come back to it right after beating the game? I'm inclined to think waiting until postgame would be faster because you could get away with only needing one x15 coins DK barrel in W1 instead of needing 2, but you would need to do a little extra movement between worlds.
There is a slightly faster route which involves revisiting some of the worlds (including W1 for 1-4 and 1-K). It ends up only saving 4 seconds though and I can't really be bothered to change my entire route just for that timesave, especially since it puts three of the hardest levels in the run (1-K, 4-K and 5-K) right at the end.

Why doesn’t the puzzle pieces count towards 100%
They don't increment the percentage on the file menu
@@minusonetwelfthisn’t there a 200% version if you collect all of the puzzle pieces? Or was that exclusive to the 3DS version? I’ve only gotten 100% on Wii.
@@emperorbroda 200% is beating all mirror mode stages, puzzle pieces don't actually affect percentage at all
Yeah, they just unlock 90% of the gallery. The other 10% for also completing all of mirror mode. I wish the puzzle pieces counted towards percentage, cuz of how many there are compared to other collectables.

If we're going by how long I've done time attacks of this game (which massively helped with learning 100%) then about 5 years. Learning the movement for 100% itself only took about a week though.

They don't count towards the 100% shown on your file. A true 100% run of this game would be incredibly tedious, requiring not only puzzle pieces and mirror mode but also all shiny gold medals. Only a handful of people have even tried it.

The offscreen skip at the end of 2-K is definitely a contender for the hardest trick in this run. The biggest timeloss should be obvious from the description.

I've played this since 2019 (but only posted runs since 2021.) Leah (currently 2nd place) is definitely capable of getting a run like this so it's fairly likely I'll have competition in the future.
