Casual player here, it’s because he offers no help in the air. Diddy can help horizontally, Dixie helps vertically, cranky sure can bounce on spikes and get a lot of momentum and kill enemies and jump really high but in the air doesn’t help very much.

yeah for the speedrun we are allowed to start with cranky with a 2nd controller as long as we disconnect the controller after 1-1
