    I bought the saltx 6000 for the fall striper run in NJ.. After over 100 fish caught Im giving it a solid 2 thumbs up. It did me justice on some decent sized Bass and a very rare Redfish. Haven't fully submerged it yet thou. Great drag system

    I handled this today and was seriously impressed.....they have the 4000 model coming out in a week or so....I will be buying one and I own a Van Staal VSB150, and two Stella's. Was actually impressed with all the new Tsunami reels. They stepped it up, met the owner today and what a nice guy.

    I have been fishing the 6000 since late July(over hundred of hours in use), it is easily the best piece of fishing equipment I have ever owned. Throwing plugs, eels, tins, from the surf, and a kayak. The only negative was finding the tiny torque/Allen wrench to secure the set screw for the manual bail. I would highly recommend this reel to anyone in the market for a sealed reel with a budget +$350, shit, you can buy a solid rod and this reel for less than other reels in the market ;)

    I just purchased my SaltX 6000! I will have it in my hands in 3 days. As soon as I get a chance to use it in the surf I will report back to you! I did my homework and there wasn't anything I didn't like about the reel. I have both the 4000 and the 6000 on a 9’ and 10’ lamiglas rods. I have only had them for one season but so far it is an excellent reel. The only issue if I had to make an issue is the drag is very sensitive it doesn’t take much to go from light to heavy pressure and I have lost fish because my drag was either too loose or too tight. I would still have no problem recommending this reel.

    the gasket on the gear plate is my only concern, as an owner. within two days of getting the reel, I had a bad click right at the bottom of my cycle. I popped it off and found some water and sand inside due to the fact that the gasket was seated poorly from initial assembly. it was a little chopped up but still works fine for sealing. I put a bunch of grease in it after cleaning and realigned the gasket. since then it works as it should and gets used real hard. I will definitely change the seals out in a year or so maybe sooner if needed but I would buy another instead of a van staal, having both currently I say the salt x is a better reel for my needs. I like the lower gear ratio and I think the drag is better. it also has a much more comfortable and compatible reel foot than the vs and also a line keeper which the vs does not
    UPDATE: my original reel got much worse. main shaft began to wobble pretty hard as time went on. It was during Christmas time when I contacted tsunami and made a warranty claim. The reel was replaced no sweat, and I have been fishing the new one much harder than I ever fished the first salt x and have had no issues that don't come from just 5-6 days on the kayak per week in PNW for any reel. Happy camper. So while I recognize that these do have some issues for some that make it out the door, I have still been a tsunami fan boy and now own around half dozen spinning reels from them - two of which are salt x simply because they are robust and the customer service was there when I needed it. try that with okuma, daiwa, penn... maybe you'll have better luck than I did

    Just wondering, has anyone really given the line roller assembly a good look? After fishing with this reel for one season the roller feels a little wobbly to me? upon further examination it looks to me that the line roller where it makes contact with the bail arm is not sitting flush! creating this apparent wobble. It has not created any issues, but on the other hand I have not had to land very large fish.

    Salt water causes the corrosion of aluminum creating aluminum oxide. The salt does not directly attack the aluminum, but causes an electrochemical attack like a catalyst that results in the corrosion. I'd get the color coated one for long term use.

    Very interesting because of the price. For the 10 or so times a year northeastern surf angler if this is deemed to last then it's a certain contender. Spending $600+ on a reel I don't use terribly much was eating at me but $370 is much more appetizing. I think I'll let these see action this fall to get a good judgement but it's a damned good looking product.

    READ: Main shaft made from Aluminum with hard coat
    Also WHY THE .DUNK TEST OMISSION:
    I did a dunk and wind test and it passed flawlessly.
    I didn't put it on video and made no mention of it.
    The only mention of dunk and wind in the video was referring to the Tsunami rep saying it's designed to be submersible and able to crank under water.

    THE REASON WHY:
    After the 3 hour successful dunk test of the spinfisher vi and it's failure shortly after. It proves that long term is the only test.
    If the Salt X failed....that would be of more value and I would have included it.
    SO much more goes into dunk tests than a bucket or a one shot spin in the surf.
    How does it handle when salt and mineral deposits accumulate
    How does it handle when lubricants oxidize
    How does it handle after wear
    How does it handle when sand gets around the seals
    How does it handle in different temperatures.
    The sealing of this reel is pretty robust. At the main shaft and body perimeter and clutch cartridge it's perfect.
    They use lighter seals at the top of the clutch and handle entry.
    They function but how they perform long term after everything mentioned above is up in the air (Seals fail on ZB and VS reels too)
    At the same time. The design looks like it could accomodate seals of different types without the need to retool.
    The handle seal is contained in a nut that threads into the frame from the outside. similar to the Rotor/ clutch seal.
    Both of which can likely be swapped out for seals with more surface area.....IF NEEDED.

    Has some thinner seals than the VSX, the main shaft is also thinner than a VSX allowing it to be more plyable to bend easier or get damaged. Also when you tighten or if need to button the drag the retaining nut underneath the spool you access the rotor will scratch instantly allowing the corrosion coating to come off and making it faster to rust. Just my reviews on it myself. But again If you want a “Submersible” reel with a right hand retrieve this is your only option.

    The minimum drag being 2 pounds really bothers me with penn slammers and other decent reels so I end up just using battle 2’s for live bait and just clean them a lot. But those large keyed drag stacks of slammer and previous spin Fisher really slow large fish for me so in the ocean, I use slammer drags but remove the lower spool seal to make the drag minimum better for live bait.

    Mine stopped working in less than a year. Collects so much sand and junk. It's not waterproof at all. Don't even attempt to reel under water. I rinse mine down after every use, and it still seized up, and something inside snapped. Now the spool spins with the rotor and won't collect line. I'm going to have to send it back. Complete failure. I needed another reel this week, so I bought a Van staal VR150.

    I like your review but I'm going to spend the extra cash for a Van Staal VR Gen 2 series. My biggest concern is if I could ever find replacement parts for this reel. In a perfect world, I would never need any parts but it's not a perfect world. Parts are readily available for the Van Staal reels. They have been around a long time and I expect they will be available for decades to come.

    Are there confirmed specs for braid capacity? I've seen a couple different numbers but only one that seems to keep coming up is approx. 300yds of 40lb. Just trying to compare to other 6000 reels. Thx

    Quick question for ya, my buddy got a curado DC and out of the box it has hardly any drag even when tightened all the way. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spooled with braid? Braid slipping on the spool? If no line......if it's brand new. It's a no brainer. Return it

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnrich9278 Gotcha...that's pretty strange.....something isn't compressing the drag stack properly if the is no drag....and for that to happen would take something that in a new reel......considering how simple it's design is. ....is a freak thing to occur.

    Thats was a very satisfying review. Its great to see when a company gets it right with the product and price. Obviously the proof is in the pudding so to speak, as you said the big test is in the real world analysis/usage. But on this review I would certainly consider buying one. I cant remember if you covered it in the overview, but the drag spec says 50lbs which seems insane, whats your take on that? Thanks for yet more great work. Cheers D

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man... Yeah.. Real world use over months and many users will determine if it's the real deal. Looks good so far. I tested the drag to 15lbs and it was fine. 50lbs lol don't doubt it could hit that... But wasn't gonna try.. Max drag = max risk... Following the thirds rule who's going to put on anything more than 50lb to 65lb braid anyway :) know what I mean :)

  • @tmtundra

    So two questions.
    In your opinion, which reel would be the best bang for your buck reel?
    And which is the best regardless of price?
    Taking everything into consideration, durability, smoothness, weight, drag, etc.

    • @rkw221
      @rkw221 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      right on...I have ' thing' about hearing '...it's a great thing...for the money...'???!!!??? Arrrrgghhh, that is maybe the most empty thing people say as if it was a fact and helpful in evaluation. It is a totally meaningless comment, and we all do it now and then, it's weird. Like you I simply want to know which is better and why. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each thing being discussed. Then we as the user/consumer can decide if which works best for us based on price. Now if someone states "...this widget is a great thing and recommend...plus it is a great price compared to the competing widgets..." then we have a valid opinion. I suspect this later is what some folks mean but if they are not concise then the review is kind of useless in the end.
      I sure don't get that here...the opinions are fact based and all laid out for us to decide. I think we all know a new product is always going to have issues here and there early on. Later though the good companies address those issues and the product improves. I'm hoping this is the case with the SaltX ....the 6000 especially 'cuz I just nabbed one today.
