      I think it was a fair review. When Daiwa sent you the reels, they probably meant "Just be fair. *wink*"

      Wanted to ask a question. Say you buy a new reel and turn it fast just to test it's smoothness. It is smooth but makes a soft winding sound only when you turn it fast.... Is that normal?

    • @frankiev-tech4630
      @frankiev-tech4630 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Totally fair! I think that reel is solid 👌 but sorry Daiwa I'm not sold with it and neither does the spinfisher...I'd rather buy the Stradic FL.

      Fair assessment....and still get it, I am a Daiwa fan boy😂.
      I think they should definitely make servicing these reels more accessible to the home service man. Tools, mag lube and mag bearings. Magseal has been on the market long enough.
      Shot you an email as well

    I'm nowhere near saltwater, never had to worry about any of the things you talk about in your tear downs, reviews, and what not but I do love your explanations, the detail and depth, and overall fairness. It always enthralls me to the point where I will sit and watch almost 2hrs straight about reels that I have no need for or any intention of ever needing or buying. Great work as always!

    One of the best videos you've ever made. I thought it was fair. This is why I watch your videos. They teach me so much about reels. You definitely make the days I'm not able to fish on less boring. I actually bought a Bantam MGL thanks to you (found a brand new one for $199 in a tackle shop). Lovely reel for redfin perch crankbait and bladebait fishing I do.

    This was wonderful. Very thorough and complete. I wish there were more reviews like this. Shimano in particular uses marketing jargon and then explains it with more jargon. It's hard to know what is in the reel. I own a Spinnfisher V and a BG. You are spot on when talking about the feel of these two reels. I surf fish in Florida and stay out of the water. I learned a lot about how to clean the reels when I come home. I wasn't aware of the issue with roller bearing or bushing so I will open them and see how they are doing. There were lots of parts on the table I just wonder if you had any leftover?

      Just buy a Fin Nor Offshore and you know you have something, body all alu with all gear stainless steel, the 6,4 mm axle supported in 3 points, front middle and rear for real effort, no compromise as alu, coated alu or zinc, even the handle, there's no schiki miki reverse switch and no one way ball bearings but the solid clutch anti reverse. It is heavy but strong, built to hold any fish and to last forever, you can't have both, whether strenght and endurance or lightness, the lighter it is, the less substance/atoms in it...
      I just brought a Fin Nor Offshore 10500, when you hold it in your hand and hear its clicking while turning the spool you know that's the thing a man wants.
      An endurance test would be interesting, alu gear, coated even, vs brass and stainless steel gears, so those Daiwa and Shimano vs Fin Nor and other stainless steel and brass gear reels.

      Use the drag and rod to pull line in then then pick up line as you slack the line. Any gear will fail if improperly used. Don't grind through it, especially with spinning reels.

      @@TackleAdvisors hey man! Totally understand the process on editing videos...im sure its tons of work to provide this great content! That crap happens...but from what you shown in this...so far I'm impressed on the style of this reel. I agree the spin off housing with that o-ring is a great way to block debris to travel that shaft which i give kudos for that design...that's where I feel the majority of sand and water actually get in...and that boot gasket needs to be more accurate when re screwing it...it's way off...for sure it'll break when reinstalling it...but in those comparisons...the Daiwa is a solid reel...i really like the design...and to tell you in reality for my style of fishing dealing with saltwater...it comes down to the upper shaft sealing where the rotor spinning bring in debris from the beaches or rain if it's a sandy area is what makes and breaks the reel of longevity...water protrusion is what really causes the majority of reel failures. But money wise...i wouldn't pay for neither spinfisher nor this reel...Shimano FL to me still for the best bang of the buck especially that x-protect...and you know...there's no reason you have to go there. With my 4000 FL caught a 42" Tarpon with zero flex, flying out of the water like 5 times fishing from a bridge...no problem at all. So I don't know...even the spinfisher doesn't convince me to get it. And man that reel is sooooo butter smooth! Why do you think it's sold out everywhere!? Which to me Daiwa should pay attention to the Shimano Stradic FL.

      @@TackleAdvisors I plan on getting a new cat-fish jigging/ shore jigging reel, and so far 6000 bg mq seems to fit the bill, i would love to see some tests from people on the water though, but looks a lot beefier then the regular bg i use in the 3000 size. What do you think, would it handle heavy 60g jigs + silicone in strong rivers?

    Very interesting video. Personally, since I fish exclusively in fresh water, I’m pretty confident that either the Fuego LT or Ballistic LT are just about perfect for me. Plenty of water resistance, good smooth drags, very light, more than enough strength and stiffness for anything I catch around here.
    Interesting video on the new BG MQ for sure, but not quite the reel for me, I think.

  • @RSdd11
    @RSdd11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great review in terms of sealing and smoothness of operation. Would like to see the difference in max drag between the BG and similar sized BG MQ. I get about 8 lbs at full spool with the BG tested on a calibrated brass scale and got owned by a jack crevalle this weekend. The reel was fine though after having half the line run out by multiple jacks and a couple 10 lb bonita. I had to thumb the spool to stop from being spooled a few times and broke the jacks off on purpose. What I like about the Diawa reels is they bottom out against metal and keep you from over flexing the spool against the drag. I'm either going to go up to the 4500 BG or maybe "upgrade" to the MQ if it puts out more drag. I can't see spending more for a Saragossa in that size reel and will reserve that for the 10000 size.

    Awesome Scoob, was wondering what cleaning do you do to a reel that gets dunked in the salt? For the first time I took my reel apart using your BG breakdown video but was unsure of how to clean the parts if it’s dunked in saltwater (mineral spirits, corrosion X spray or clean water?) Also what reel grease do you recommend for salt and freshwater (if different) reels? Thanks as always for a great video.

    Been running this reel for a year and had it torn down. Seal at handle is perfectly fine. Btw. All salt water kayak and beach surf fishing. 2500 is absolutely a perfectly weighted and powerful gem. Maybe a little high in price but Shimano has jacked their prices up big time. This new BG MQ is a Ms nice or I would say nicer than my Stradic FL. My new go to inshore saltwater reel. Like my Ballistic for inshore as well.

    The clear plastic washer on top of the drag stack is a cheap arsed heat shield like the white one on the Saltigas. Meant to prevent heat generated in the drag stack damaging the base of the drag knob which used to happen on the Z series Saltigas on big hard running fish.

    I don't think I can ever go back to the Penn's. I have had several battle models and they all corrode horribly on the body, and just this weekend, one of my 4000's stopped oscillating. Opened her up and the gear was disintegrated, no teeth. No signs of water, and was greased well. Just seems it crumbled whatever that material is made of. I have done several repairs to most of them. So far, no issues with the Spinfisher V's. Just watched the reviews of the BG BQ's and was nearing purchase until I saw the materials inside made of zinc, etc. Decision now to go ahead and pay the extra for the Shimano Stradic FL and eventually replace my bigger spinning reels with the Saragosa's. My son in law has these and they are so smooth in comparsion, it makes my Penn's feel like $10 POS. He has had several seasons fishing exactly same as me from our boat in Saltwater and has had zero issues, no corrosion and no servicing and they are flawless!

    I think you did a fair review of the reel. It's just not that special in any way. Daiwa has to know you call em as you see em. They should have just sent you the new Saltiga if they were looking for a better review. This reel just has above average gearing because of its size. Great information as always. Here’s my $0.02. Most freshwater fishermen don’t do a lot of maintenance, and for the most part, don’t have to and for a number of reasons this reel probably isn’t on their radar. Most saltwater fishermen buying this price point of reel want and possibly need to do some level of maintenance. One time use seals, specialty tooling, a million parts, etc. kill that for a lot of people. As you mentioned, the spinfisher and slammer iii are easy to maintain and get parts for. Daiwa may sell a ton of these, but at some point, people are going to get frustrated with the maintenance and repairs, especially at this price point.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went into this thinking that this sealing was a response to people not being able to access daiwa magseal......and now it's the same damn thing..now you have to find a tool....40$ - 80$ is the price to expect...and often unavailble on ebay
      So it's pretty clear daiwa wants to grow their service end of the business....In my recent experiences with their service they're 0-4...and yeah..not everyone services their own gear....but a surprising amount would like to....and a 6pack goes a long way extending the good years of a reels life :)

    the plastic washer I think is to keep the surface of the drag from wearing down an then allowing corrosion so the plastic washer kinda protects the metal I'm assuming tbh but think that makes the most sense but maybe its something else but my other reel doesn't have that an has small scratches on that top part of drag

Got BG 5000 for 45 years with very little maintenance. Bought a newer BG with double stopped. Only fished 5-10 kg fish on it. Just washed it after use. It will last for years
      Once I forgot to remove a fishing set on a boat for three days, the reel jammed. The boat is parking in the sea. Not moving. Dismantle the reel with lots of WD40, Presto ! It worked fine as before !

It is heavy but strong, built to hold any fish and to last forever, you can't have both, whether strenght and endurance or lightness, the lighter it is, the less substance/atoms in it... I just brought a Fin Nor Offshore 10500, when you hold it in your hand and you hear its clicking while turning the spool you know that's the thing a man wants.
      An endurance test would be interesting, alu gear, coated even, vs brass and stainless steel gears, so those Daiwa and Shimano vs Fin Nor and other stainless steel and brass gear reels.

    If you look at the rash guard lower internally you can see a raised lip thatI think is meant to hook the ring gasket and pull it down into place .But in order for it to work correctly you would have to re install the rash guard lower end first not upper end as you have done. correct me if Im wrong.

    Not quite in the class of these reels, but you need to bring in the fin nor lethal, for those $99 guys. I bet it will make it into your comparisons with some more expensive reels in the future. @@seapancakee Monocoque nice and pretty, offers some advantages, simplicity and a bigger gear, although if l think a bit deeper not necessarily a bigger gear, what holds a multiple screwed body from holding same dimension main gear? Straight this simplicity, a single threaded piece is dangerous, think about what happens if it breaks, yeah, fishing ends with it and you may throw it or best case scenario search for spare parts as the body and/or the handle threaded support. So this thread holds the whole torque and side forces which appear, that's just a thought, perhaps there won't ever be any issues with that.
