    You definitely cornered the TH-cam fishing market with your in depth fishing reel analyses, appreciate your input was so excited about buying this reel but with your discovery of that issue , may have to wait a lil longer to buy a reel that's just come out , maybe wait for Gen 2 or 3 to come out then buy ! keep the vids coming .

    That grease reminds me a lot of Corrosion X, especially with how sticky it was. I’ve been using that for a little over a year now since I saw the video you made on it, and it’s been amazing every time I’ve used it. Not a single bit of corrosion on any of my salt reels, outside of some AR clutches due to lack of sealing.
    Also, thank you for bringing your hands back, my night has been made. :)

      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Corrosion x or Aquashield? Corrosion x isn't as stretchy as this stuff....which is what makes the aquashield unique.....This stuff is like a heavier goopier thicker aquashield...The film it leaves behind is like nothing I've ever used other than krytox....to de grease my bench involved scrubbing and a commercial de greaser that is strong enough to remove anodizing....lol.

    I viewed the Saltx in my local shop a few months back and didn't like the finish or the feel. It was too tight and the machine work looked to be of lower grade. @Tackle Advisors I've got a saltx 6k that I've been beating on commercial fishing for spanish mackerel here in FL, that something has failed in. Firstly developed the antireverse bearing squeak, and now feels nice and crunchy. I took it apart once to re-grease after it's first couple thousand pounds of catch. I'd like to send it in to you for a diagnosis of failure if I could. I'd expect a reel at this price point to fair far better than it has as I've got a couple shimano spheros reels, a 6k, and 8k doing the same duty going on their third season.

    • @TackleAdvisors

      Very interesting... This is the first set of real issues I've heard... And for what it's worth.. The 4k developed a clutch squeek but I couldn't confirm is it was something I did so left that out. I did fix it though. (had a scorpion mgl do it too.) Damn birds chirping... Lol. Do you know Dennis? He's a land based comm. Down south Florida.. Shoot me an email tackleadvisorsinitiative@gmail.com

      @@TackleAdvisorsIt was the spool shaft that had began to fail allowing the spool to come into contact with the rotor with a fish on, causing binding and some of the roughness I was experiencing. I took the spool off and it had stress cracked at the cross pin, and only took a slight bit of wiggling by hand to finish breaking the shaft ( like breaking a paper clip by bending it back and forth ). After this failure all I can conclude is that aluminum is a poor choice of material for a spool shaft on a reel that is capable of putting out a hefty amount of drag.

      @moerelaxing6364 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang, not what i want to hear. Found a pre owned one for a little over 120 bucks seems to be in excellent condition original owner, not going to be putting it through as much stress as you did but doesn't help. Mostly open beaches and jetty/rock hopping in the NE for stripers/blues but makes me think another reel might be better

    • @kevindeuschle3413
      @kevindeuschle3413 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@moerelaxing6364 One reel I will stand by, after many many days, into years of heavy heavy use is the shimano saragosa. I still have the first one i bought, and while it's been put up wet, and rode hard it still performs well. Could use a little tune up though. Unless you want to get into daiwa saltiga levels of refinement and budget I wouldn't buy anything else for salty shores. The new small saltiga coming out really has me interested though.

  • @woodystemms3799
    @woodystemms3799 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thought they are in very different price points, it would be interesting to compare the innards of the Tsunami 4000 to the Okuma Azores Z-4000H, also intended for salt water. Given the way that a budget level Okuma Epixor reel stood up to Elias-level use, the Azores might be a viable alternative that's lighter by a few ounces. ( with 1/2 the advertised drag, but less than 1/2 the price )

      Thanks for the kind words.......I'm not entirely sure any companies really like me all that much....I've had threats and companies have threatened people I affiliate with over things I've put out...lol....Certate is a beautiful reel.....Not as rugged as a spheros / saragossa......This reel...is probably not gonna be what ya want for light presentations or slack line presentations where you jig through the slack on certain baits......Spinfisher vi is probably the most proven....The stradic FL is an amazing reel and my pick for best all arounder under 400$ but I don't know how it is holding up in the salt....I guess no news it great news....I literally haven't heard a peep about how its held up which is strange..... Another great review Scoob. I hope Tsunami sees it and addresses the chewed up axle and loose/stripped screw. Seems a little overkill for a kayak application. Although i do love seeing the face on guys with their 3000$ hobies, 400-600$ reels, 300$ rods, and 1000$ electronics, when they roll their yak and its all gone lol.

In regards to Tsunami seeing it..Their NE rep is a SOL member....I sent an abridged version of this video early last week so they can see what I found ahead of the video......Other than an appreciative heads up...I haven't heard back yet.....My bet is they're going to work with the manufacturer and tighten up some loose ends.

    I currently have a Stradic Ci4+ 3000 that I use on a 7'6 ML Shimano Hard Rocker for fluke fishing with 1/4 - 1/2 oz bucktails from shore. I was wondering if you think it would be worth it for me to sell my Stradic Ci4+ and get a Stradic FL 3000 instead? I mostly fish from jetties, calm beaches and bays so I just need something to keep the sand out and have decent sealing because my reels occasionally get dunked for a few seconds but nothing major. The aluminum main shaft is a deal maker or deal breaker for me.
    As of now, I'm leaning more toward spending the extra $150 for a Van Stall VR125 G2 with the new large diameter stainless main shaft. I am basing it on the ability to get replacement parts easily for the Van Stall. The Tsunami Salt X looks very promising, but I have my doubts on the longevity of main shaft and the knob. It may be hard to impossible to get replacement parts in the future. EDIT: I finally decided on and bought a VR200 Gen 2 in silver. I thought it best to spend my money on a reel that's proven itself over several years. A reel that I can find parts for. I will revisit the SaltX in a few years and most likely buy one if they prove to hold up. There is one main sticky point. I will have to be able to change the knob out on it.
    If that can't be done without drilling the handle out, it's a no deal.

      I can tell you the spinfisher is a very good reel...especially the new one...and I've been anti penn for spinner for a long time....My guess is they're holding up nicely.
      I forwarded the "bad" to Tsunami a few days ahead of this *rep is on Stripers Online and a good dude......I hate seeing stuff like this...my guess is they're going to want the reel...and they're going to want to shore this up real quick...They invested a lot of money in this product launch....and it's potential is very real....I bet after this I'll be getting quite a bit of feedback which will prove valuable to consumers and Tsunami. I also have no way to verify if that machining issue is widespread or a one off.

      I rememeber 10 years ago 70 miles into a 110 mile 3am run to the tuna grounds my buddy in a bean bag chair taking a zeebass 27 handle to the noggin.....The rod / reel was in the rocket launchers and it backed off and spun off.....luckily we were only going 25 kts (in the dark ) and it landed in the boat..lol....I know what you're saying. Daiwa Penn and everyone else's back off way to easily....Even Saltigas and Torques.....Shimano though takes quite a bit more to back it off...it's not an instant break free....Something to consider....But the threaded on connection is superior to the hex method.
