Just like in the old country....where we dumped a plastic wrapped fish in a pot.....just like Bubby used to cook!

Cool I live near Lakewood, travel through frequently. I was curious to learn what jewish cuisines there are, didn't expect to see a recipe from a local!

I like the way you add the leak to this. The only time of year, I use leak is Rosh Hashoneh and since it is non bug less leak, the whole procedure makes it that I have to soak and rinse off and check all the layers separately. Is there a heter to use it the way you have it and just slice it? For a few years, they haven't sold bugless leak here. Thank you. We very much enjoy the videos. They are entertaining, and ad interesting ideas to the old recipes I have been using. Thank you.

Since the gefilte fish you bought is already poached/cooked, why not just defrost it and then only add it to the last few minutes of cooking your tomato sauce. This way you're not over cooking the fish in the sauce for an hour or more, thereby degrading the nutritional value.

@@adararelgnel2695 - Really? That's so strange bcos we all know that fish only needs a few minutes, if cooked more, their beneficial oils are seriously degraded.
Thank you for explaining. You're the only one that made the effort.
You've jogged my memory, I now remember reading the pkg & decided not to buy it for the very reason I already mentioned. I will continue to avoid buying it.

Nice, but that's not really a gefilte fish recipe all that much. It's easy to buy prepared fish and matza like that, but there was no recipe for that part. We are not all Jews and orthodox one's. So I just wanted to try something Jewish, a classic Jewish recipe.
