Yussi, you make them like my grandmother did them.. no carmelization of the onions, just a quick sautée of the meats , then she would have the homemade dough to wrap them up.. brings back great memories of childhood.. I'm finally gonna try to make them the way she did.. Thanks again! Everyone needs to try these for their mish'pakhah!

This is going to sound absolutely horrible and I apologize in advance. I'm really a nice guy - I swear. ....I wanted to see how to make real Jewish beef kreplach. And I found this video and played it. And I loved it!! And to tell you the truth I'm smitten with the guy too!! Anyways....I'm Jerry and Jewish for my entire 62 years. Growing up my parents (both Jewish) had several Jewish dishes which except for the tongue everything was amazing!!!! My parents were not religious with me and my older sister. My parents definitely followed more with their parents but something definitely got lost when it got down to my sister and me. Oh we had the special meals etc but never went to Temple. Never prayed or followed the Jewish laws. Funny.... I'd told my mother before I got married "don't be surprised if I don't marry a Jewish girl". We just weren't into it. Well in 1982 I married a wonderful good Catholic girl. Nobody asked nobody to convert or anything. All my wife requested is a church wedding and that our kids get baptized. That's all. And I couldn't argue with that. ... My Mom died 5 months after we married. And with that was a treasure of lost information and experiences. She died in 1983. My Dad died in 1991. My wife has never stopped me from eating whatever I wanted but it seems that after she died I really lost my zest. Watching you with this brought me home in a way. Thankyou. What a story you have there Jerry !
There is so much in our culture, much more than meets the eye… I am sorry you lost your mother, but I am more sorry that you didn’t get to explore your roots and especially our Torah! How incredible would it be if at your older age you could make a comeback to your roots and study Torah with a buddy ! I guarantee it would enrich your life tremendously ; also, it’s not too late to proceed with conversion if your wife so chooses- of course after she learns about Judaism and desires to be a part of it. There were many great Scholars and leaders of our people who converted and became Great, for example, Jethro from the Bible. Please reply to this comment if this is something you are interested in and I can try to help you.
Wishing you best of luck and remember - your Soul will forever be Jewish!

Hello Yussi, I had to go Vegan 7 years ago due to kidney disease. Baruch Ha Shem My kidneys are functioning great and I didn’t have to go on dialysis. I used your recipe with Impossible burger and gluten free frozen pastry dough. Came out delicious. Todah raboh

I grew up on Polish food so when I first tried kreplach in a deli in New York, I loved it. It was like a pierogi on steroids! Great video, and absolutely love the faucet you have by the oven, that is a really neat setup.

Man, this doesn't come close to what my Grandmother made in Brooklyn in the 1960's. I'll cite three big differences:
1)She didn't saute anything with olive oil. She used wonderful shmaltz, chicken fat which she stored in coffee cans (before dinner, while you were playing ball on the street, you'd get a quick pick me up from shmaltz drizzled over rye bread,
    2) She did not chop meat up and combine it with onions and mushrooms. Inside she put in eat kreplach bite sized pieces of succulent and soft and unchopped beef that seemed to melt in your mouth.
    3) She did not buy pre prepared wanton skins or any of that junk. She used flour and water and whatever it took to make pasta and she constructed the receptacles for the meat.

I blend my fried onions and browned beef in the food processor. The I add two eggs so it becomes a paste. One spoon of the mixture into the kreplach dough and then it gets boiled in water. The egg makes it hold together once it is in the soup. Sometimes old world recipes just stay, old fashioned.

You made such a lovely presentation. I never thought of adding mushrooms to my kreplach! BTW, in Russia they use raw chopped meat and onions for kreplach. A few points I would like to make. 1) Even though it is not a Halacha show, please remind your audience not to say OMEN to your brochos. You don't want to cause people to err. 2)For the last 20 years we have been living in Israel, so I don't know if you need to check mushrooms for bugs in America. Here you do. 3) I could never understand using olive oil for cooking. Doesn't it lose all the healthy qualities when heated? Thank you very much. Gmar chasima tova.
