    Although the 10A fast charger seems expensive, it does have some fairly sophisticated power management functions to help look after the Li-ion battery and not over-charge or over-heat the battery cells.
    It may not be appreciated that heat can damage the cells if this is not mitigated against during spirited riding and it's one reason, as Spicy110 discovered on a Zero I think, that if you nail an electric bike for too long it is likely to go into limp mode to prevent the battery life being shortened. Best not admit to doing that in any warranty claim!
    Quite a bit of research has been done on the chemistry of these batteries giving, for example, a medium/long-term maximum storage charge recommendation of typically 80%. Not 100% as you might think. Batteries should also be stored at reasonable (eg not say at >40C in the boot of your car in summer!) temperatures. Cold temperatures can also be problematic for optimum charging.
    Here's a clip from an authority on lithium batteries for anyone interested.

    I am betting that the motor controller and motor are capable of doing regen but considering they had to pack that in such a tight package they weren't able to give the motor controller sufficient Cooling and had to disable region altogether I'm guessing that if you were able to add some cooling to the motor controller like a fan or two blowing air acrossed it and hook up and retune that that you could get the regen on that thing working you might not even need to go through all of those steps you might just need to go and you could probably program region stage 2 to the rear brake lever only and put it at something like five or 10% so that way you grab just a tiny bit of the rear brakes and you get some actual regenerative braking happening.

    I guess no alarm when battery out charging.
    Is a larger tray part of supercharger price perhaps.
    Should be a concession on buying super charger if bought with bike, some may not need 2 chargers and only want the supercharger.

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have suggested they would just sell the like with the fast charger. If you deduct the cost of the standard charger and add the difference to the price it will hardly be noticeable.

    Good point re: no alarm if charging. Is there another "residual" battery to keep the electronics from resetting each time - or do you need to reset the clocks etc each time?

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This bike has no time clock to reset, I assume the milage etc is saved on a none powered type of memory.

    My first electric moped had a 2.4 kWh batteri that weighed 21 kg (LiFePO4), so the TC Max one is actually a lot lighter per kWh.

    • @IIARROWS

    how does one fix a battery that has got 42 volts and is a 60 volt battery? And does one trickle charge it with say the satiator up to an ok voltage bypassing the bms?

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would ask the manufacturer, You do not want to bypass any BMS, you will have a really high chance of a fire.

    • @snorttroll4379
      @snorttroll4379 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      cool story bro. It is true though if one charges the battery above its capacity or if there are no individual cell fuses (like in most ebike batteries) and one charges too fast. did it and it worked. all that happened was that the battery had been left uncharged too long. If someone out there knows how I should have proceeded I am all ears. I suspect I should have installed the bms software and monitored the cells or done it with a multimeter. Btw there are screws behind the stickers on the batttery case. a real iq test. spent an hour wondering why I could not open it. oh. and I hooked on the negative and positive terminal of the battery itself and used some alligator clips to connect it to my variable electric potential and current charger @@spicy110

    Very informative video , thank you ! I’d have to remove the battery twice a day to get to work and back, in the rain 🌧, and dark , all weathers . I don’t mind the hassle so much but not sure how reliable this would be with constant unplugging , lugging , charging and reconnecting .

    thx for your great videos :) Do you know how fast it charges with the 10a to 60-80%? I just read that for a distance of 20-30km it doesnt even take an hour. Is there any information if the batteries would allow a faster charging then with 10 ampere?

      As far as I know unless they have standard plugs to plug your charger in no. Possibly because this bike can't charge at the speeds those "filling stations" do.

    Honest guess: we know you're big and fairly strong, so it must be heavy for its size, given you quickly got a 2nd hand on it once it was out of the bike. Let's say 18 to 20kg.

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They seem to £99 that's not expensive for a fast, however I still think it should just be included in the bikes price as all will want it. The not fitting part is not really a surprise as it would require a redesign of the charger and thus make it cost more. They maybe waiting for the next bike models to sort that out.

      As mentioned below the zero charger is many times this cost, in the market this is pretty fair. Agree however these chargers really don't need to cost this much.

    • @fie1329
      @fie1329 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are charging a 22kg pack of Li-Ion 18650 cells chained together to reach 83 Volts.
      I would not want to charge that with a cheap charger. If this goes on fire, you better run. High quality components cost money, so I'd rather pay 280 for a charger than watch my bike or house burn down.
      83 Volts at 10 Amp is 830 Watts of Output. While this low in EV terms, this is quite a bit more than you phone charger, which is 10W or about 35 for Super Quick USB C chargers.
      Even most laptop chargers go easily around the 100 are in both pricing and power output.
      All that considered, 280 is a fair price for a bike charger.
