Looking back on my transmission problem, coming up on almost a year...I think it's important to be patient before jumping into just getting it in a shop, transmission work in a shop is EXPENSIVE and time consuming. Rightly so because good quality mechanics are expensive and equipment needed and proper space to do the job. That's why trans shop cost so much. I think all the tips above are great. The first thing after checking those tips, to me would be jacking up your car, place your jack stands and look at your transmission from the bottom. If it's oily, or wet wipe all that wetness off, try to determine where it's leaking from. Doing this is important because if you can find the source of the leak that may be the problem right there. Check the dip stick tube, there is a O-ring that seals it, make sure it's not leaking, if so replace it. Finding the leak may be your solution. Lots of sensors on the transmission all have O rings if its wet around them, replace the sensor. Clean it well and look for fresh weeping of fluid. All modern transmissions function more on fluid pressure than just a lot of heavy metal parts, slipping and sliding. I believe most problems are solinoid related in transmissions. Most important solinoids are located where your filter is housed. Read up on the functions of that solinoid pack and see if your system matches it. If you don't know mechanics and don't have tools or you don't have the space to do it yourself, find someone who does to change that filter and solinoid pack out. Try a mobile mechanic to do it for you, maybe. Or venture forth and do it yourself if you are lucky enough to have the space and tools..TH-cam has many great videos to walk us through. Go to your library, do your own reserch first, this is the valuable lesson I learned the hard way, the expensive way. I hope this helps, don't let your emotions and fear drive you into a 5000.00 or more repair..
My car just recently started doing this out of nowhere. After starting my car in the morning for work, when I put the car in drive it takes about 2 min for the transmission to engage and then the car will go forward. After the car is warmed up and I turn it off and back on, it goes forward with no problem. I only have that problem once the car sits for a while. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Same thing here but we just had it fixed where they took the engine out. I feel like it’s bad linkage from the putting back together. Hope you got yours resolved

Same problem here on my ford just fixed the reverse band and after doing everything right and installed everything started it up and same thing as your explaining I have to rev high to it to engage and reserve is the same
@@SANGSAFE yes, I believe I didn’t align the torque converter to flywheel and on the flywheel, there’s a pilot hole that you first put your first convector bolt in and that’s what happened with me or I just didn’t put the converter on all the way into the transmission. I took the transmission down again, took it apart, found out that the pump was destroyed, and torque converter was scraped up and the forward drum was all types of fucked up. So now I’m holding off on rebuilding it again due to me having my other truck running again.
@@SANGSAFE I was also getting a code about the speed sensor on the transmission but that was reading good and within spec so I knew I did something wrong with the transmission. Hopes this helps sorry to hear this happening to you as well. 👍🏽
Thank you for the information. I just need some help with my transmission. When I put my car into reverse it makes a clonking noise like it’s slamming into gear, the car will move back. Once I get the car out the driveway to put it into drive it makes that noise and pulls forward, when I hit the gas there’s nothing regardless of the gear it’s in. car starts but only when i push in the shifter button.. when i push it in again the car turns off. so the car starts but the shifter acts like a push start button and its a auto og shifter on a 2018 focus also a normal key to start.
My 2001 civic, first it losses power while driving, lower gear sustained for 1 mile then after i stopped it did not move at all no matter what gear is shifted.

I checked the shift bushing and cable, transmission fluid and everything looks good, but the vehicle doesn’t move. Do you know what could be the problem?
Mine does the same! Put it in drive and the engine revs or the pedal goes to the floor. Eventually it will go and act like it's out if gas then it just goes suddenly and runs fine after that??
My car acts like the brake is stuck the wheel also acts like it's binding I just replaced both axels and both bearings because it was making a roaring noise but after doing all that it made no difference. What u think

First, check the transmission fluid and be sure it is at the correct level. Next, sensors and the transmission itself will need to be tested. Usually, when a sensor goes bad, a code will be given. If you don't have a scan tool to scan for codes, most automotive stores will do a scan for free.

@NoVanitysKos ok so I found out that it's definitely the transmission....the solenoids are fried and the problem I'm having is nobody wants to replace them but instead wants me to get a new/rebuilt transmission....every place I went to said 5k or more I found a place that will do it for half that so that's the route I'm going....only because a few years ago it was burning oil apparently those engines had that problem and it should've been recalled but there was an online petition against toyota for that issue and I did my research so I called a Toyota dealership and told them about the problem and they acted like there wasn't anything they could do about it...until I said lawyer lol they ended up fixing the motor for free replacing the valves piston and other parts and I even got a free rental and my car was not under warranty anymore so obviously they must've had others that had the problem and didn't want the court involved moral of the story is that's why I opted to have the transmission fixed and pay the 2500 because the motor is solid now....if you can find someone to look at the solenoids then good luck but chances are they're gonna tell you to replace the trans....👍🏼oh and I never ever got a transmission flush for the life of the car which would've DEFINITELY helped this from happening so yes transmission flushes are NOT a scam lol

With my Sprinter I figure it out or when I have a low battery and I couldn't start my truck I use a jumper I start the truck and after shifting reverse or forward truck doesn't want to go . After cranking engine a little while truck start moving forward so I'm guessing this low battery voltage and switching valve solenoid have not enough power to work correct . I think the torque converter solenoid valvemodulation is not working . One time I drive my friend Honda Odyssey and serpent belt broke . I get message right away that battery is not charged and after a little while I figure it out transmission start losing engagement . After changing serpent belt for new and charging battery everything come to normal . So I think somehow battery low voltage have some effect on transmission solenoid valve more than on engine ignition and injectors .

I have a 98 jag Vanden Plas that just decided one day to stop accelerating while I was driving home from work it stayed running just wouldn’t move at all … my mothers boyfriend said it was the timing chain and that it would have to be parked because it was done for and would need a whole new engine … but I don’t think he knows as much about vehicles as he says he does because when he went to investigate the problem with the car he just clipped the water hose without a thought and then was like oops 😬… so, I’m just curious if you have an opinion on what it might be that caused the problem or, could it be the timing chain? I just wanna know if it’s something that I could possibly fix myself or get fixed by a mechanic
Countessa,, the timing chain is on the engine and your engine is running so your don't need a timing chain, I think your car needs the cable the goes from the gas Pedal to Carburetor or throttle body.

I have a wierd situation, car runs great transmission works great...usually, it drives with no harsh shifting, just had a thing where I put the car in gear and it wouldnt engage drive and the car just would sit there with my foot on the gas, reverse is good. But it's intermittent with no codes. Today it happened with a day of driving pulled into parking lot. Went to leave and the drive would not engage. Let it sit turned it on, dr4ive was engaged and drove it home. You think it's the linkage

I really was hoping it was a pressure solinoid, but I eventually took it to a shop, a transmission shop, with my high miles on the vehicle, we went in for a rebuild. What I can tell you is to be patient in finding a good transmission shop that you feel you can trust and take out a loan to get that job done and be prepared to give that car up for at least 3 weeks. I had to pay for 50% upfront....what a demoralizing helpless situation..period.

Well if you need a new transmission, they aren't real hard to replace on your own , just expensive to buy a new one .

It is hard to say, but I would check the linkage and wiring going to the transmission; the object may have damaged it.

My Honda Pilot 2019 shows Park and Drive engaged when I start it. It is not moving. My local mechanics are dumbfounded. what to do?

Your transmission is going bad, if you can’t change it, let the car warm up for a bit then use it.

What was the problem ?
I have a 98 jag Vanden Plas that just decided one day to stop accelerating while I was driving home from work it stayed running just wouldn’t move at all … my mothers boyfriend said it was the timing chain and that it would have to be parked because it was done for and would need a whole new engine … but I don’t think he knows as much about vehicles as he says he does because when he went to investigate the problem with the car he just clipped the water hose without a thought and then was like oops 😬… so, I’m just curious if you have an opinion on what it might be that caused the problem or, could it be the timing chain? I just wanna know if it’s something that I could possibly fix myself or get fixed by a mechanic
Countessa,, the timing chain is on the engine and your engine is running so your don't need a timing chain, I think your car needs the cable the goes from the gas Pedal to Carburetor or throttle body.
These an issue with a Raff 4 3s fe full time forhill. It starts but won't move forward, it only engaging on reverse

I have a wierd situation, car runs great transmission works great...usually, it drives with no harsh shifting, just had a thing where I put the car in gear and it wouldnt engage drive and the car just would sit there with my foot on the gas, reverse is good. But it's intermittent with no codes.
Today it happened with a day of driving pulled into parking lot. Went to leave and the drive would not engage. Let it sit turned it on, dr4ive was engaged and drove it home. You think it's the linkage

@@myawells7160 Things got better on it's own for a period of time, now it's been back..same old problem. So, now I ought to know something soon. will let you know when resolved.

@@Sonia-bf1kq This situation turned out to be pretty expensive. I really was hoping it was a pressure solinoid, but I eventually took it to a shop, a transmission shop, with my high miles on the vehicle, we went in for a rebuild. What I can tell you is to be patient in finding a good transmission shop that you feel you can trust and take out a loan to get that job done and be prepared to give that car up for at least 3 weeks. I had to pay for 50% upfront....what a demoralizing helpless situation..period.

Yes sir question as I was driving I heard something fall on the street sounded like a clinking sound when it hit the street and my truck failed to shift gears or rather I could move the gear but truck wouldn't move

It sounds like it is in Limp Mode. The computer needs to be scanned for any codes.

OK I have a 2007 Chevy impala. It’s like when I move the transmission lever I don’t hear any clicking. when moving the lever down, so do you think that it’s something to do with the shifting mechanism in the transmission?
Sounds like the cable from the shifter to the transmission
The cable is moving the linkage, so I think it’s something internal with the transmission if I get around to Pulling it

I have a cadillac cts 2007 it got over filled with oil and then blew out the extra oil but after that it wont drive it turns on and goes into gear but i wont drive or reverse any ide what could it be ?

My 1999 lexus goes in forward for a few minutes but then stops moving until you shut it off and let it set a few minutes. Then when you restart it, it goes forward for a few miutes then stops moving again, over and over

so I have an issue. my car was working fine and all of a sudden it just stopped working while driving. it now won't switch gears and when I put it back in park it makes an awful grinding sound and if I have it in drive the engine revs to 50mph and won't move or even reverse. any thoughts?

@@Jasmine_young1111 yes for me it was my driver side cv axle on my 2001 toyota avalon xls!! very easy fix part can be about 80-200 depending on car n shop. i fixed it myself so i didn’t pay labor
Hi, I just purchased a 2013 Nissan Murano SUV 6 cylinder, all-wheel drive, and the vehicle will not engage in drive reverse or low gear. It'll turn over just fine, and it sounds good. When it turns out ended a Holden idol. But it will not engage in drive reverse. Can you help me? They told me there's an easy fix. That's the only reason I purchased it. And they had purchased a refurbished transmission. That's in the back of the vehicle. And we already change the speed sensor out. Maybe I needed the input and output speed center. I didn't realize there was two of them

I would check inside the box. Sometimes the spring inside them breaks or comes off.
