Mercyful Fate is not Black Metal. It's heavy metal but it sure gave away a lot of inspiration for the second wave Black metal scene. The first BM band was Bathory from Sweden.
No Venom were. They started the first wave of Black Metal. Bathory took their name from Venom, and 3 songs on the first Bathory album were named after Venom songs.
@@XPGrindDeathking They were the first band to publicly say the music they play is Black Metal. So yeah, they were first wave Black Metal. We were calling them black metal when I was in junior high, long before the Norwegian scene, or Bathory, even existed.
So many of these "categories" could easily fit within other "categories". It is odd how there is a need to over categorize music for whatever reason. I think its a divisive practice at best and it tends to marginalize many artists. I applaud your willingness to be open to listen to discover such a diverse array of music genres. Keep bringing it.
ahh well you see..... Thats the problem, bands and their fans start to call their music seartainway and other bands taht sounds similar are pushed into that umbarella did they want it or not.
Hilarious...tropical rock/pop, whatever it was. Then, Math rock ? Oh, times were simpler in my day, lol. Still, I enjoyed this upload Pope. Wish they'd played a little more of the songs though, they were gone before they registered in my brain !.
I like them all! Not a lot of females represented here though except for Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane), Jinx Dawson (Coven), and Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star).
As Sammy Hagar put it in "There's only one way to rock": --- "And you can analyze the situation//To me, it's all just mental masturbation." LOL, obvs it's fun to divide and categorize, and valuable in some ways, but so many of these overlap one into another, and 150 is an absurd number, lol. I'm sure breaking it down to 15 or 20 would be doable and justifiable. Anyhow, POPE, the important thing is: ROCK ON!
NWOBHM isn't a genre. It didn't matter what you sounded like, as long as you were British and Metal at that time you were classified as NWOBHM. Everything from Venom to Def Leppard was classified as NWOBHM

@@Gregbaltzer Venom started the name and pushed the satanic image but they're not Black Metal either.

That's pretty impressive, but it also raises questions about who gets to define genres, and where the lines are. .
Absolutely.

We missed you

NEOBHM = New wave of British heavy metal. Alt-rock should have been "Faith no more."

Totally contrived
My genres are Good and Bad...a lot of these bordered on ridiculous. It's all just opinions..mine and theirs.
who won? Progressive Rock, Progressive Pop or Progressive Metal?
They did miss one.! In my opinion Garbage is a genre all their own
List is missing:
Down/ Sludge metal
Dillinger Escape Plan/ mathcore
Outside of a few,the Stones,Doors,Jefferson Airplane,CCR Dylan,that’s as garbage as it gets
Black metal was nowhere close to accurate
Neoclassical metal was ridicolous also
Darkwave was also not that accurate...
That video is so wrong in so many ways lmao
