I was in the stands watching this with my corps. When I figured out what they were doing in the end, I was in complete disbelief. Damn shame DCI wasn't going to allow a 4-peat because this was amazing.
I’m sure I’m going to show my age here, but this was peak drum corps. Back before everything was amplified, and there were no props, and no weird voice overs, or sampled music. (I say this having marched 2009-11 when we used voice overs and samples). It was just music in motion at the highest caliber. Pure, raw, beautiful, intense, magnificent performances that really showed the abilities of those marching and the talent of the composer, drill writer, and show designers. Simply amazing.
@@TheRailwayDroneI’m jealous! We Are The Future was such a good show! But if half the rumors of what it was like to march there in the late 90’s early 00’s is true, I’m happy to stay a spectator haha
There was literally nothing better than early 2000's cavies. I am fortunate to have an awesome mom that took me and my drumline to go see this show and frameworks in person at finals. I still get chills 20 yrs later. The sound was insane and the visuals were literally mind blowing
@@Elle_Emenopy I was at this show and THE RAIN!!! that field was a mess, but when the show finally got going - MAN!!! What a performance! I loved it! I appreciate the work you and the rest put into this!
@@iTip28 Yes the rain was awful. I remember sitting on the bus forever just to see if Finals was even going to happen. I think this specific finals was a big catalyst for getting DCI to Indy for finals. All three days (prelims, semis, and finals) had serious rain delays. I loved this show and my favorite part was debuting the new ending at Murfreesboro (we originally ended where it the looked like it had stopped). The crowd went NUTS and continued to do so at each show when they realized what was happening. Hard to believe this was over 20 years ago.
This show was magical and will forever hold a special place in my heart. These guys were first in my eyes and ears, I know they would never allow them a 4-peat. These guys had the gears spinning fast and strong ⚙️
I toured with spirit that year and watched this many times .. from the moment yall stepped on walkin track coming into the stadium you knew this group had a type of old school discipline which was like something resembling anger or just overall confidence.. that is what to me stuck out .. ive yet to see that trait in a whole group to this day..
@@sylviadinnam2343 I haven't seen a corps this disciplined since those early 2000s cavaliers groups. cadets of that era falls into that same kinda vibe. Boston these days id say falls into a similar vibe.
These shows back in the day were the honest and absolute best of the very best. The hard work these corps/men/women put in tirelessly work day in and day out throughout each and every summer is a testament to hard work to the fullest
This show is just absolutly mesmerizing from beginning to end. Really the only thing I could think that would make this show better and more entertaining would be if they lost the hats and had a moment to put down their instruments and just dance to a poem or k-pop song or something.
They deserved 1st place for that show. In a lot of ways this was as good as Frameworks but with a twist (literally). I can never get enough watching this.
2000-2006 and 2008 Cavaliers is probably my favorite stretch for any corps ever. On top of that 2002-2003 were the peak years of that stretch. Frameworks and Spin Cycle are my favorite shows of all time.
the Cavies don’t attract that good of talent they used to all of the better players are going to The Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Bluecoats, Cadets (no longer a corps), and Boston Crusaders
@@AznminatorI think there were massive staff changes in 2012 and that caused the show design philosophy to change. That caused them to drop in rankings and not attract the best talent anymore. It’ll be tough to climb back into elite status.
Now THIS is a drum corps show!!! I love how the 2000's cavies just took one concept, and wrote around it. There's so many "Cycle" references here, and so many "I see what you did there" moments. Not to sound like the old curmudgeony drum corps fan, but subtlety is waaaay cooler than telling your full story plot with vocals the whole way through.
definitely the show talked about the most from this year. It was easily the most innovative maybe they didn't get it clean enough to beat the devs, but man this sure is what designers payed close attention to as the years went on.
As someone who marched this show, BD was just cleaner than us. This was incredibly demanding and hard and we just couldn't get to where we needed to be to win. I still remember the sound of the crowd when they figured out what was happening at the end.
As someone who toured with spirit that summer it was good enough to win.. you won in the hearts of many people that night just like phantom showing up and being a crowd favorite with their show..
@@Elle_EmenopyCan’t be easy to clean this type of show when you have as many injuries as I’ve heard the corps dealt with. Drill wise there has never been anything like this, this show pushed the art of marching to the extreme. I can’t imagine how proud you guys were after making it through this season.
I have watched this show about 1,000 times and the thought just dawned on me.. the cavaliers color guard must be like the super bowl for super gay color guard dudes being an all male group. I was watching like "man id be so uncomfortable in that tight ass outfi..... ohhhhhh... nvm" lol i dont care if they are, just a little levity lol
I was in the guard. You'd be surprised how many straight guys there were. Also, we were originally told our uniforms were going to be "very revealing" so we assumed shirtless or something. Not head to toe Neon green spandex haha. But yes, guard auditions were tough. My first year at Cavies we had over 100 people auditioning for 36 spots. But for perspective, they had like 40+ auditioning for the 5 tenor drum spots. Peak Cavies years the auditions were brutal.
@Elle_Emenopy i cant even imagine. I went to the boston crusaders audition camp for bass line in '04 and even with them it was a whole other level of what i was expecting it to be like. Nothing but incredibly talented kids that made you feel inferior lol i still regret that bc i got offered a spot and turned it down bc i was an idiot teenager that thought it would get in the way of my good times. Being on the peak cavvies alumni is a hell of an awesome thing to be able to say.
I don’t care what the scores say. No one could touch early 2000’s Cavies. This and Frameworks are the most magical shows to ever touch that field.

One of my favorite shows. 20 years later and this still should have won first place.
This show is incredible. Tight and clean. Bravo
This has to be the hardest show to ever march… I can feel my knees pop out of their sockets just by watching this.
I marched this show and yes it was incredibly demanding. We had almost 300 drill sets and it was just non-stop from start the finish.
Bent leg is better for your knees/legs, if they marched straight leg for this show, they would all be in wheelchairs right now.
