@@mediocreman2 I knew that they switched up some stuff at some point in the 90's or early 2000's I think. But either way thanks for the info! I'll have to check out some older stuff then lol
This was the show that got me into DCI. I remembered watching this when I was 11 years old. I was so inspired at how accurate and amazing the performers were. Little did I know, I would march the Cavaliers in 2011 when I was 17 years old. My dream came true ⚙️💚 Outside of my wedding ring, my gear is my most prized possession.
If I’d made the line when I auditioned in 2006 and 2007 I might’ve liked my dci experience. Sadly I “ended up” in a corps at a very down point in its history and did not enjoy my 1 season on the field.
If you like the drill for this show, you should look up the Cavaliers 2003 show! It was way ahead of its time and still blows me away today as much as it did back then.
What is cool about this show is that the programming, quality of design and showmanship are so good while the music is so accessible to someone who has never seen drum corps.
This show was literally beyond its time! I get an eargasm every time I watch it and then realize… These guys were way ahead of their time! To actually organize this many 18 year olds to get a score of 99.70. I’m speechless. The amount of adult skills and writing is staggering! It’s a beautiful display of discipline, musicianship and discipline met with the right amount of circumstances plus a genius amount of 007 bravado was instilled! Bravo! It’s bloody genius!
I met Aaron Brizuela, the drum major for this show, a couple years after this (he was a brass assistant at the university I attended)....and he said NOTHING about this the whole season. He's a super-cool, unassuming, humble dude. I'm so happy he and the Cavies took home gold in '04.
Agreed! I'm a Cavie alumni but even I can say that the rotating box from Crown 2013 is VERY cool too! **edit** in terms of an "illusion" or trippy kind of effect.
Got to see this early in the season in Orlando … I couldn’t stop talking about the show. Despite not being a finished product, it still rates as my favorite live performance.
Such a well-designed show. Hypnotic! Non-cluttered! Current designers should take note of the uniform: dark pants, light tops. What the viewer sees is points in space in motion without distracting leg movements. And NO PROPS!!!!!
Fucking chills running down my spine every time they finish that triangle formation towards the end at 10:54. This show literally had the biggest balls and swagger I've ever seen in drum corps. I wish so so so so so badly that the Cavies would go back to this style of show writing.
Not only that, it's all the ridiculous non-marching they're doing as well. They're just prancing all over the field and the visual design these days is atrocious
Grateful for this comment. I am aware that "things were better back in our day" is a fallacy but DCI feels like winter guard anymore. I was watching some recent shows and thought, "damn I'd really love to see some drill...I KNOW 2004 cavs!!".
@@n1njacatz This is why I'll never be able to understand the hype behind 2010s bluecoats shows. The performers are still insanely talented, but when you cover the whole field with props and spend half the show playing with them instead of actual marching, it becomes harder to tell that you're actually watching a world class corps.
The drill where it blurs into a double vision 007 that becomes clear... soooo good. Seriously why don't more writers do this? Visual may be a smaller portion of the score but it's what fans go to shows for.
I have no idea why, but my official headcanon for the show now is James Bond and the Drum Major fighting for control over the podium, with the Colorguard on the side of Bond and the Band being on the side of the Drum Major. Why do I imagine this? I don't know, I guess when I hear music I can imagine anything.
Watched this show just about a million times as of now... And every time I find one more genius fucking nugget about this show! This was a master class of a show! :)
If balls had a name to it… This show would be it. No better DCI show to highlight the whole entire 007 movement! As someone that marched throughout high school! And watched that entire series! Fucking bravo m! 👏 I marched tenors! A drum line equivalent to mid voices! This is why I will always be cavaliers hard fan! That’s what’s sold me. That and frameworks!
Another amazing Cavaliers show!!! They were so amazing in the early 2000s…. Frameworks being my favorite show of all time!!! Great job!!! Thanks for posting!!!
This reminds me of my high school days. My HS marching band attended one of the final DCI shows, and I remember we watched this show. When it got to the 007 formation I said out loud, "I wonder if that stands, for 2007, but it's only 2004." Then I realized after the fact it was for double 07, lmao. Definitely made some of our coach's and peers laugh. 😂
Of the cavies’ run, which is almost unmatched in DCI, this show is the closest to being beat. They had “the juice” for a good while there for sure. More aggressiveness in DCI = more wins! Nice job here Cavies. I miss this
I wish ppl would stop acting old. Sound quality and musicianship is far superior now and it isnt bc of synthesizers. Soloists being mic'ed is better for the musicians so they dont have to strain to be heard. Yes the drill went away but lets be honest, most ppl cant even see the drill at the shows unless youre high up in the judges boxes or at home on skycams. So lets stop with the "back in my day" bc it is really tiresome
lol at calling 2004 “back in the day.” I’d present to you 1988-1993, ANY corps then just cooked. Didn’t even have to be the winner to be remembered, 1989 Phantom, 1992 BD, 1993 Star
I thought to myself! The cavaliers can’t possibly outdo themselves! And boi was I ever pleasantly surprised! What really makes me really fucking mad. Is that my cavaliers r no longer the cavaliers that I knew and fell in love with in my teens! Where is my “huge ass/mind numbing ass cavalier drill design?” I’m going be as the very least annoyed until what Cavaliers do is stick to their huge azz balls and get back to what they have been known for the best in the 2000s; which is incredibly kind bending drill design. Until then. I will just watch from afar! 😂 This is what u made u the green machine!
They started out the show with the 007 theme, what're you even talking about? Most of the music selection is from the movie Goldeneye and you realize there is more than 1 theme playing throughout the show right?
Old school DCI is so pure...
old school is the 70s and 80s for me when I marched in the 80's lol
And this was after the move from G bugles, at least for The Cavaliers, so earlier DCI was even more pure and powerful.

2004 and 2011 cavies are both s tier shows so it sounds so cool one inspired you to eventually march another show of the same level
The drill for this was so cool. It’s my favorite marching show I’ve seen, including the ones I’ve been in 😂

Between the flam diddles this was just about the most genius fucking DCI piece of music writing!
I cry every tone I listen to it!
Drill complexity and cavvy sounds. Soul candy. Love it.
Soul veggies. Its healthy and a necessity lol

The move at 8:09 is one of the coolest form/illusions I’ve ever seen in marching
Hard to pick just one - this show is loaded with awesome drill!

I'd go all the way back to 1985. From 1985-2011, the Cavaliers placed out of the top 5 once.
I actually got to sit right next to this camera at this show.

Back when Drum Corps was Drum Corps and you knew it was horns and drums playing.
3:10 Damn that drum break was tight!
