leader explanations that show hyperdimension of the two forces in a lighting strike, I'm interested in the mechanics and possible virtual particles. very interesting episode, well done.
I could listen to this conversation for a week straight and not come close to scratching the surface of my interest in it. I grew up in a religious cult that was/is anti-science (they've been in the news a lot during the pandemic) and was astounded at what I could test on my own once I left the cult (and at how horrible my old "brothers and sisters" could treat people who left). This pushed me to go to college. I'm now 38 years old and am in an Aerospace Engineering program at University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). I wake up every day with a renewed awe of the body of understanding of science and its implications on our society. My professor, Dr. Lynnane George, was the Mission Director for one of the Titan IV rockets and I've recently been working on a project with Trip Carter, who was on the team that implemented the use of the Cesium Clock in satellites (formerly known as NAVSTAR, now known as GPS). I feel an immense sense of impostor syndrome every time I'm around people of this caliber, but I am incredibly excited for my future and the new knowledge I will gain tomorrow. I have recently been helping with STEM Outreach through GSTEM, Cool Science, AIAA, Nasa DemoSat, and Nasa GLEE. Thank you for doing this. Thank you for making it available to people like me. How can I help? I would love to be a part of the future of this science outreach.
Far out... much respect. And I thank you for the term "imposter syndrome" as strangely despite being 50-something years old, I had not run into the term previously. It struck "home" due to a vague group of feelings that I've had... not identified clearly or related to each other as a group unto themselves... er, what I mean to say is, or perhaps better put: I am a musician... or so they all tell me. Peace be upon you, sir.
I'm at the first break and I've got to take a break and tell you that this is a highly entertaining and enlightening way of presenting Ben to us. Absolutely awesome. Thankyou. Now, back to Ben and company ! Chucks humor is always good, Your humor is great, Ellen had some great facts, and Mitchel was a perfect representation of my old friend Ben Franklin.
What a stupendous way to take the life of not only the life and scientific exploits of one of the most important and interesting people of all time, (allegedly, as Simon Whistler would say 😂😂😂) but to also bring to light the hard work of the team of people from Yale working to preserve and present his legacy for all of the world to see and revere. Thanks so much Chuck, Ellen Cohn, Benjamin Franklin (Mitchell Cramer) and Neil for the wonderful work done here to bring it to my fellow partakers, and also dum-dums such as myself, in an unexpected and entertaining talk/show. Chuck and Neil, you always bring the hits! Wow, what a giant run-on sentence filled paragraph I produced there. Told you I’m a big dummy! I never comment on any videos though and so it just goes to show how much I LOVED this episode, but all of Star Talk!!!
@@JeffEdmondson This was on April 28th of this year. The show was rescheduled due to Covid twice. It was in my neighborhood. I still am pinching myself! You need to search upcoming shows. I also bought tickets for Neil in Philly. It's not a Star Talk show but him himself. I can die happily now because I was able to be in the room with my favorite Scientist, and Astrophysicist, EVER!!! 😁
That actor for Benjamin deserves an Oscar, very well done. He knew his business and still kept the act up perfectly. Quality scripting and improvisation.
Thank you so much for doing live shows. I've watched every episode since I don't know when, but I really like the live shows. There's something about it. And seeing Ben Franklin was great, I loved his stories. My favorite experiment was the key and kite.
Now, there's a thought. If you get jet lag from travelling through space on a jet, then do you get "space lag" when you travel through time? When you land in the future, you keep feeling like you're 5 metres to the left of where you actually are.
I’ve noticed that Neil tends to, well, speak over his guests a fair bit. Like at certain times when Ellen was about to say something Neil kinda steamrolls over her. He interrupts Mr. “Franklin” a lot too. I understand he is clearly very passionate about his field of study, but I mean, let the woman speak, for crying out loud man 😂😂😂
Great episode. It was, dare I say it? A electrifying episode! I was hoping for Ben to say "Who is this Mitchell Kramer?" when Neil said his name at the end haha keeping up the illusion.
Btw what Franklyn got out of observations of a flickering candle was what he later incorporated into his fireplace and is what is widely known as a draft which is built into all fireplaces.
Great Idea Niel to bring all these lovely Respected guys togethert! just A little bit A little bit control my favorit comedian guy i love, because we love to hear more of Science! Thank you ALL!!!!!!!
The format of this StarTalk live show is an amazing idea! Imagine talking about Isaac Newton in London like this! This was very entertaining and highly informative.
I've experienced the sensation of electrons storing in my body before a lightning strike. My brothers and I were in our house watching a lightning storm from a living room window. The hairs on my neck and arms suddenly stood up, and about a second later a lightning bolt struck. I don't know where or how close it struck because the intensity of the flash blinded and disoriented us for about 6 seconds. It was like getting punched in the head by light.
Hi. I'm going to admit i'm one of the 6.999999 billion bipedal, opposable thumb dummies slithering around our earth. I work 12 hours a day just to stay alive. I have no ambition past pay day. But! There is something mesmerizing about listening and hearing someone talk about things so far out of your reach yet so unbelievable interesting and brain absorbing. I enjoy the therapy of listening to smart people.
Btw. I have small group of people I would like to have lunch with one day. ND Tyson, cast of Jurassic Park, Winston Churchill, Einstein, Adam Savage and Stephen Spielberg.
I've tried to find the actor that played Benjamin Franklin here, but I only found Michael Douglas's version. No doubt this man out did Michael Douglas in the tv Show Franklin on Apple tv. The actor here, embodied Franklin and played the character perfectly! "You've read my letters much more recent than I." Amazing inprove haha
We went from a keen observant scientist to a guy who looked straight at the Sun. What happened?! The last line was the best, we are currently driving straight over the cliff.

I likely made this comment before. But I love that Neil pulled a 'Bill & Ted' move for this live StarTalk by bringing THE Benjamin Franklin ......impersonator. :p As close as we can get for now!
I have a question about time. Let's say, that my friend boarded a spaceship. Like a rally big one. And let's say, that i watch him, from a very far distance, as he fly by at the speed of light. Do I see him flying as an frozen statue? Because, as we know, time stops for a particle at the speed of light, but not for an observer.
Cool I keep going back to this experiment also. I also watched Thomas Edison. Boy did he struggle. It seems is first love was chemistry or acids and metal. I think he was on to somthing and switched gears
Which is your favorite experiment of Ben’s?
Eating the most chocolate ice cream
Jerry didn't like...
lightning rod

Hands down the one he actually might not have perform, the kite and the key. It is both disappointing as well as reassuring.
The $100 bill 🤣
Neil and Chuck for 2024!
Definitely got my vote!!!
Here here!💚💚🖖
Theocracies wouldn't allow intellectuals in power
I would President them.
I would vote for Neil as president with Ben Franklin as the vise president! Neil is awesome I like chuck as well but Neil is the draw.

This episode was so cool! They need to do more like this!
We’re listening!
This was so beautifully done. Thank you Startalk 💙
listening to it for the second time in less than 24 hours.. such a masterpiece. I am looking forward to more episodes like that one.
Mitchel Kramer is wonderfully intelligent and knowledgeable in his interpretation of Franklin
This was great! I learned so much. Ben Franklin was always my favorite founding father. A brilliant man. Mitchel Cramer was wonderful!
Just loved the Apricot tree story. If I had time machine I'd love to go back and talk to Ben for hours.
Love you and respect you..all the best from kingdom of Morocco
