    I have a ultra tech that is 15ish years old.Got interested in them right about the time they were switching to the tri screws (has little holes in it screws.more steps to make those is why they changed them I suppose.?.Easier.)happened to be in Asheville when they were in the middle of moving to a bigger place.dropped it off in person for maintenance and mentioned that I liked the new X button & new glass breaker with the bearing on the end (not so spikey on the hand when getting it out of the pocket)They sharpened/cleaned it and put the 2 new parts on it & put the old parts in the box and it was in my mail box before I got home from Asheville.That was pretty cool. I had it all wrong.Had an image of a couple guys making them in a backyard shop.From the way the description of the knives read back then maybe .Mentioning “Custom”& “Handmade “a lot… I was burning some time in town,waiting to visit someone who was at work.Asked around & a local guy at a gun store told me the name of the neighborhood and pointed me up the hill. I went up there,it was a gated community.when I pulled in the entrance a nice SUV was coming out of the gate and I went in the gate before it closed.nearly left the knife with a note in the owners mailbox. Knocked..No answer.A neighbor came by walking a dog and said they had sold that house and were building a new one..Same community.Once again,pointed me up the hill.found the house.left the car running with AC for my wife & infant daughter and went to that door. The contractor & architect or a guy that was doing some real nice built ins & finish carpentry were talking & having lunch.let me in and said Tony wasn’t there,”would you like to take a look around,follow me “. The house was beautiful and the guy showing me around was pointing out all sorts of cool details and was excited how everything was turning out.Those guys obviously assumed I was a friend of the family & It all happened so fast I couldn’t bring myself to say anything + he was talking about different exotic woods and other materials and all the different techniques and craftsmanship .Not to mention,by this point I was really getting into the design of the house. It was top notch work no doubt. Meanwhile,my Corolla was running out of fuel in the driveway. There happened to be 1 guy doing some landscaping and other outdoor work. He saw is sitting there & could tell something wasn’t right.came over and I told him I’d run out of gas. Knew I was low but didn’t realize how much the hills & extra AC time for the baby while I was touring was going to be pushing it. He had a full large gas can & put plenty of gas in the tank. Wouldn’t take a dime for it. It was a interesting day to say the least. After all that,I learned a lot more about the different levels of custom knife makers .& The knife,I haven’t carried it or used it in years. It somehow worked its way out of my jeans pocket 2 times in one day in downtown Charlotte NC mid day/crowded streets & sidewalks.. I didn’t realize it either time..Was returned by someone who saw it drop twice in 1 day. Haven’t carried it since. I like it,but I ve lost every one of the knives I’ve used, real often /every day through the years that have pocket clips. Doesn’t matter the price. & a scaled down model of that MT knife is a fingernail cleaner and fidget toy more than anything else. A clone is more than adequate. I’ve found a 940 & 945 Ti scales & bearings not washers that are nice. $60ish .don’t have them in hand yet but they seem possibly better than BM. High number of good reviews and a few more bucks that some other listings can get some nice knives these days. Im wondering if there’s some Japanese or other countries making some good ones too. Long story to say im sticking with good clones.It’s a good memory of a good day. Odd day ,but good .take care
    THE END!

    I actually have the exact same one. They’re usually d2. Was cool to play with to decide if I wanted a real one. Once I got a real one there’s no comparison but for 40 bucks you get a lot of knife I beat on one for a year with zero issues

    • @ArizonaLifestyles1
      @ArizonaLifestyles1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is awesome ! D2 huh maybe that is why it took a little longer to get a decent edge on it - thanks for watching

    Thinking of getting a 70% size clone I like the bolt placement pattern on the 85% tho, as always great review

    The coating on real microtechs comes off too , lol. They’re pretty close except for nailing it through a 2x4 it will eventually break as would any other knife except a microtech won’t , lol. Don’t think too many people should be doing that anyways but for a tester and if you like it a lot get a real one . No harm no foul

    • @ArizonaLifestyles1
      @ArizonaLifestyles1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree - I have a couple Microtech clones that I actually used for work and they jammed up tight ! I guess they are good for light use - the UTX 85 clone is still going strong - thanks for watching - if you can jam the real ones through a 2x4 and they actually work after that they are probably worth the cash

    3” leather strop wheel even on a drill does wonders quick for keeping blades sharp to cut paper

  • @Excalibur01
    @Excalibur01 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As the years go by, these clones are becoming really well made. For their price you get what you paid for BUT what you paid for is some good shit. Hundreds of dollars for a true Microtech if you got the cash and want to by the brand name but if you just want something similar. 50 bucks is easier than 500

    • @ArizonaLifestyles1
      @ArizonaLifestyles1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree! Over the last two year this is what I’ve tried to demonstrate- and most of the time you get what you pay for - and these knives can be used for parts as well for scales etc … also they are a good test or rental knife to get the feel of the size / shape of the knife and if you really like the clone you can go out and buy the authentic one - great comments ! I’ll highlight your comments in my next video-

    I just found a UTX85 online. Thank God is has a current box and does not have all the extra crap with it. It was from a reputable site that I have used forever but now I am actually afraid to buy another Microtech. I have been looking for a Troodon Hellhound but I guess I will just forget it. It would be too much money to get scammed for.

  • @BDevi0us
    @BDevi0us ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have several real microtechs and 1 fake combat troodan hellhound. My fake is great for $55, and I do use it for all my hard core cuts at home and for everything else. Not a real Microtech, but still I have no complaints. Plus, it's easy to sharpen and abuse!

    • @ArizonaLifestyles1
      @ArizonaLifestyles1  ปีที่แล้ว

      I beat all my clones , some don’t respond well and some do just fine … they are simulate to size and shape but materials are cheaper … but for the cost I don’t really care about them except for Microtech clones I don’t pry with them anymore … they just don’t hold up - thanks for watching

    The main difference is in the blade steel and internals. The steel is crap on the clone, and the internals are cheaply cast or water jet cut instead of billet milled. Also, the clone's coating is not a hard coat anodizing. So the clone looks kinda nice overall, but it will never hold up. or hold an edge.

      The issue is these stores change out so often you just need to search on DHGate for utx85 or even ultra tech to see the results …

    • @ArizonaLifestyles1
      @ArizonaLifestyles1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup - or sometime people won’t even get their knives if it’s an unproven store on DHgate- as for knock offs quality will vary - these are rental knives . If you want to understand the look and feel of a premium knife without buying it These are good options. Then if you really like it go buy the real thing.
