If both players are outputting the exact same bits, why would there be a difference? If there's a difference, something is being changed. Right?
there could and usually are minor differences in clarity and color reproduction.
@@steadychaosproductions3376 if both players are giving me exactly what is on the disc, in a digital output, then there can't be any difference unless either the TV can't handle the signal for some reason, or, more likely, one or both of the players are doing something to the signal. It doesn't make sense otherwise.
@@brianmoore581 of course there can be differences depending on processor etc. What youre saying refers more to HDMI cables and the simple transference of digital information.
@@steadychaosproductions3376 exactly. If you are outputting a digital signal to your TV, then it should be exactly the same. That's why seeing the differences in the butterfly video tells me there is some sort of processing going on in the player. It's not just passing along an untouched signal. And these days all players are hooked up to the TV by digital cables.
@@brianmoore581 players and processors arent passive like cables are.
Does the Netflix app on the PS5 change to 24Hz when the Cinema Screen option is enabled on the LG C1?
good question, not sure, but i would imagine so.
Yes.
Which player can play 60 fps
Every 4k player
Dolby Vision and the PS5 being so loud is the reason I got the UB820 (On sale)
Is the ps5 loud during play?
no, only during start up really.
I'll stick with my ps5 to play my 4k films. I don't see the sense in shelling out more money on a 4k player, when my ps5 does a damn good job.
Some reddit post the other day i read was saying by multiple ppl the 820 was like leaps n bounds better than the ps5.Sure it is in some niche points, but yeah, ill stick with my ps5. 4k movies look great! and as far as the color "difference" (suuuper subtle in this vid) thats something you can mess around with in the tv settings. If you dont care about dolby vision/atmos (which not every show/movie even supports) then go with the ps5. If youre not a gamer and stricly wanna watch 4k movies at the "best" quality, go with the 820.
My sentiments exactly. The 820 is great for enthusiasts and those who must have DV. Otherwise, the PS5 is just fine - the differences are pretty minimal.
Which game was that in the background?
COD Cold war
Which player does better at up scaling? I wish more reviews discussed it.. some amazing movies unfortunately don’t have a 4K release- Gravity, Avatar, Edge of Tomorrow- I have an OLED tv with an xbox one x and I’m debating swapping out the one X for the ub820. Could you advise?
820 is among the best 4k players and upscalers you can buy. Buy with confidence.
Blu Ray resolution is significantly distorted when watching TV with an 85-inch diagonal. I do not recommend to anyone! The Panasonic DP-UB820 is unable to produce a normal image!
@@GintsBUDE Do you recommend staying away from standard Blu-rays entirely for this screen size, and just keeping to UHD Blu-ray?
? Is your ps5 running on 4k@60 or 4k@120
4K 24p. This is a movie.
No difference. Extremely small differences if any
Agreed
😂
So guys, what's the best way to connect a UB820 4k bluray player to a avr and lg cx oled, player to avr and then avr to tv, or player video to tv direct, and audio to avr ? thx
video direct to TV, audio direct to AVR.
@@steadychaosproductions3376 Thx for confirmation.
Thank you so much
so in your opinion if you have a ps5 is there no point getting this player I am interested in getting it more so for its dolby vision support but I don't want to spend 300 just for one thing. I would have thought a hardware based player would have been better than a software based one.
If you want DV...then sure, it's good. But honestly, you can find cheaper players that offer dolby vision.
In terms of HDR10, the Panasonic is just slightly better than the PS5.
In terms of clarity, it is no better than the PS5.
Especially if you have a Samsung S95B without DV!! But the upscaling on the S95B is excellent so happy with the PS5, but dedicated player will generally always be better
Bro I like your comparison but you got to do both at full power and it's not even close , says a person who own both.
this video was specifically seeking to compare the hdr10 format.
why do most people always use that movie for reviews? just wondering :)
yeah ive noticed that. I used it because it was colorful.
You have to be really picky to really care for the difference. But good video and review
yeah, as far as HDR10 playback, the Sony is nearly on par with the Panny. Of course, if one is a videophile, theyre gonna want the Panny for DV
I don't either, but just looking at your video the Panasonic looks better. 😃💪
How about the sound ?
Good question, i have not directly compared the UB820 to anything else.
First I would like to say great video, there just seems to me a bit more digital noise and grain with the UB820.
I can't see a difference.
What about sound?
Why waste your money playing movies on the console It's really not made for that if you want to watch Physical movies or do movies on streaming. I recommend buying a blu-ray player and doing apps on the smart TV Because that's what the main purpose on entertainment consoles main design on gaming or to do like TH-cam or Maybe.
Spotify But xbox or ps5 were never made to be used like that on movies What I'm really trying to say is most people don't use their movies on consoles. That's not what it was made to be We buy it for its games Not to play entertainment on it.
Consoles are more than just gaming machines these days, they are also quite capable of playing and streaming movies.
In fact, the video quality is good enough on the gaming machines that the vast majority of people don't really need to spend extra on a blu ray player anymore.
This is not true. They play blu ray and DVD movies just fine. The video playback in these is necessary to show CGI FMV cutscenes and trailers and all that stuff. Why wouldnt it be sufficient at playing a disc movie. That doesnt make any sense at all.
@@FURognarAre you listening yourself? It's pointless just by a decade, blu. Ray player, it's better. It's easier to handle. I'm not buying millions of dollars of a ps5 just to play my PlayStation for movies. Sorry It's stupid obviously
@@WARNING-1gv7ej2j its hardly pointless. Its a money saving endeavor. I have a $500 game console. If it was discless, I would also have to buy a $300 to $500 4k blu ray player.
If my game console also has a disc drive and can play those movies, I save money and space in my component shelf.
Now I AM planning to get a dedicated player......mostly to save wear and tear on my PS5 as I watch a LOT of movies. But many people cant afford both....and why should they have to if putting a disc drive in the game console is standard practice.
It makes perfect sense. Maybe not on PC anymore. But consoles are a different beast entirely.
@@FURognar the xbox blu-ray player is trash compare to my lg blu-ray player but the xbox has a better video streamer like disney plus Parmount plus and max the games on xbox is trash but i like the video streamer of movie apps then ps
PS5 doesn't play movies which are on BD100 discs very well, constant skipping & audio drop outs.
Is the ps5 much louder than the Panasonic?
slightly, but its not really a big deal.
Much much louder but that could just be specific to my PS5
@@rolan5948 I appreciate your input! I'm very sensitive to sound, so I think I'll get the digital ps5 and the Panasonic.

Can’t take my eyes off your tv behind you because of how damn blue your color temp is geez? You using cool color temp? 🤦♂️

This set up work for me, because Playstation blue ray player is enough for me.

The PS5 really needs DV.
yeah, it really should have it.
I wish it also had HDR10+ as well. I hate these dumb format battle wars. I have a Samsung TV so DV is pointless to me.
I have a Panasonic oled tv, it supports all formats.
Horrid juddering on both
Probably a dumb question but I see youtubers that have older movies in 4k 60fps. Is there a specific bluray player that does that or what?
yeah, good question, this player and all players ive had usually output in native 1080/4k at 24hz.
Ps5 looks better. Way better
interesting observation. They both look pretty similar to me.
I won't buy a garbage console if I'm only playing my entertainment movies. Because I'm not a gamer, so it's just a waste of money for people. Buying it for movies only PlayStation is trash like Xbox. I won't buy a PlayStation if I'm only doing blu ray Movies I'd rather have a decade LG blu player for it Much better than the PS5 Unless you're a gamer.
And if you think it looks better you're just wasting your money. On buying that console for movies.
Panasonic is SO BAD player, don't work with 4K files via USB ports! Blu Ray discs upscale very bad! Terrible remote control! Great disappointment! 👎
whoa. This is the first severely negative opinion ive seen from someone about this player. I'll admit i have not tried the usb ports with 4k files, so i cant speak to that. I also agree the remote should be better, tho i dont think its terrible.
That said, ive found the upscaling to be pretty good.
