    Mate save your dollars, use a soldering iron for the front grill and plasti-weld it. Use staples on the under side to strengthen and burn them in. Then burn in a black zip tie as you would solder to add material. Sand back, paint, and its brand new. Ive done this a few times and it was a lifesaver.

    Great work as always. I'm thinking that inner guard is crying out for a black rubber seal around the pump bottle. Maybe something from a plumbing shop or Clark rubber would work?

    You may find a restrictor valve in the original return line to the pump reservoir. If so, you will need to fit it to the new line. It's basically a pill shaped piece of steel with a small hole drilled through it to slow fluid flow and prevent cavitation. It will be held in place with that crimped sleeve.

    Hey Sam, great job mate. I'm looking at doing this upgrade to my LX Torana soon, and I'm trying to figure out how to best mount the Astra pump. Can you tell me what size hole you have to cut to get the pump tank to poke through into the engine bay, please? Cheers Andy

    RJD assays below the Volvo ones are good. I just bought one and to be totally honest, it’s the same looking pump. The wires come out different and the mounts. The body joining method and the shape are identical. Unbranded Bosch?

    Nice job mate... Very clean install. What a great idea. Getting closer to cruising around. Cant wait to see the finished car. Last time I repaired a grill, I ground down the cracks to make a V along the crack, then used 2 part epoxy (with tape on the bottom fin to keep shape), proved to be a strong repair.

    Excuse my ignorance, but why didn't you mount the power steering pump fully in the engine bay? For example, closer to the firewall/steering column. Isn't it now in a position where it will be exposed to a lot more water and road dirt? Genuine question.

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No dramas mate. I wanted to hide the pump as it's kinda ugly. I want to make the engine bay as simple and clean as I can. It will also be only driven as a cruiser week end car so It will never be driven in the wet.

    hi ,Inner guard removal/ install ,did you have the outer guard mounts loose or removed ?? Mines a Q so the outer guard is shaped a little different .
    Great job as always .. Try Gel supa glue using cotton buds and match sticks

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just took the lower outer guard bolts out so I could kind of pry it out a little bit to allow the inner to slide in. Ideally I think it would be best to sit the inner in before putting the outer on. Final assembly anyways.

    Hey mate, nice spot for the power steering pump. Is there still clearance for the bumper bar bracket?

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually forgot to fit them before installing the pump. I tried them today and they hit. I ended up making it work by grinding back the bracket but it would be a lot better mounted to the RH side further closer to the outer guard. It still works in that spot but grinding back the bracket was not ideal.
