I have a few tips for the beginners too scared to try this: 1. An easy way to keep track of the screws: Use paper pages, write down the component part; "Heatsink" for example and just place the screws over it, do the same for every component and align the pages in cronological order as you disassembly the parts, so it will be way easier to put everything back. 2. Remove the power supply connector from the board instead from the power supply itself, so the cable won't get in the way later, also try as much as possible to grab the connectors from the plastic part instead of pulling the cables. 3. Just be extra careful when disconnecting the power supply connector, blu ray flex connector (the clip is supossed to be pushed down, not lifted up) and the fan connector. 4. Try to use a compressed air can, they are pretty cheap and will remove any leftover of dust, especially the fan and heatsink parts. 5. I used regular 95º Alcohol to clean the CPU/GPU (APU) and Cooler Master Nano thermal paste. 6. Relax and take your time, pause and rewatch the video as many times as you need, there's no need to rush. Good Luck

Hey guys, first of all, thank you for this video! It's unbelievable how this actually worked. Clean and easy tutorial on how to clean your ps4! Mine has been a torture to play or watch a film with. It's one of the first generation so nearly 5 years old by now. It was so loud, I had to watch films with in-ear-headphones just not to hear it. Everytime I played online I used to mute myself because someone always was hearing "Strong wind" or a "washingmaschine" in the background. Everyone with the same issues please please please go with this! I'll anwer any questions if needed! Thank you so much!
Hey, is replacing the thermal paste absolutely necessary if im cleaning out a (most likely) clogged heatsink? I can't just leave the old stuff on there?
my power supply cable came right off(ripped off) but that was the only bad part in the whole procedure. Im also glad its one of the last things you worry about when you are putting the ps back together, even if you rip the cable you can just keep cleaning. I cleaned everything then went out to a computer shop and got that power supply cable for 5 bucks. Didnt even take me 20 minutes to get that cable.
Absolute legend. I'm always hesitant to try stuff like this myself but goddamn it really wasn't as complicated as I thought it would be. Managed to pick the stuff off Amazon pretty cheap too so it only cost me about £20 to get the compressed air, thermal paste and security screwdriver. Legend for making this video my man. Much appreciated!
Had a loud ps4 for the past 2 years. With your guide I managed to clean all the dust and replace the thermal paste. Now the ps4 is silent again. Thank you for your guide!
One of the best instructions on TH-cam. Thank you for such clear instructions and reassuring all of us, with your walkthru. Im now a very popular uncle and their PS4 doesn't sound like a jet engine, it was so clogged with dust. Thank you again.
This is by far the best video explaining how to disassemble the ps4, clean everything including putting the thermal paste on and reassembling everything back to stock.
I had followed your video step by step and my console had never sounded this quiet before! Apparently, my console had NO thermal paste whatsoever over the CPU or even the heat sink. Inside was a nightmare. Some how traces of the old paste was on the edges of the heat sink underneath the motherboard and that made me astonished as to how my PS4 lasted this long! Thank you for this tutorial mate! Saved my $300!
Thanks for this great tear down vid. I just got a used PS4 that made an insane noise just sitting idle. I tried the half tear down and the problem persisted, less than 30 mins later I had cleaned a block of solid dust from the heat sink and changed the thermal paste. Its running absolutely silent at idle and the in game noise is just the fan running at varying speeds. There are loads of ppl with this problem and they thing its unfixable.
This deserves more views. Because if you actually manage to pull it off, you will basically have a brand new PS4. If not, well you know what happens then...
i have had a loud ps4 for so many months now. i followed your guide and stripped it down to the chassis and replaced the crumbly thermo paste and it runs perfect now. can play for hours and the fab hardly ever runs full speed now. no need for mods or fan mods as the ps4 is properly designed. i found that most of the problem was the build up of dust on the fins of the main heat sink. this would of stopped airflow over half of the the heat sink. your guide was a good help to put ot back together as i forgot where some screws went. one extra thing i did wan the plate that puts pressure on the cpu i bent a little more so there was some extra pressure on there. also.if you do go
You are the real MVP. My ps4 was so loud, like a highway. After i did all these things, my ps 4 was silent. I cant even tell that it is on. Cleaning all the components and replacing the thermal paste its helping a lot. Thank you for the video. +1 subscriber.
Hey man I just wanna say thank you 🙏 this has changed my ps4 drastically, in about an hour it went from shutting off when loading any game to be able to play everything while sounding like it’s switched off ! I’ll admit I gained two extra screws 🤷♂️ but besides that it good 👍🏻
Fantastic guide. I'm an experienced PC builder and found this very helpful for guiding disassembly and rebuild. I personally use a grounding cable to ground myself because I'm paranoid. Everything went perfectly. Console went from screaming fan noise to absolute silence. Many thanks.
You just help me get a free PS4! Guy said it was broken and I could have it. Followed you great step by step instructions. It now runs with no issues, thank you very much.

Dude. I would buy you a beer If you lived near me. Thank You so much! My system is so quiet now I can barely hear it. You are Sir amongst Sirs. Godspeed.
Thank you so much! You gave my PS4 a new lease on life in 2024. 😅 If you are as bad at this as me, be careful when putting the motherboard back, not to accidentally clamp the power connector to the metal bracket underneath.
Used this video after buying a PS4 on FB Marketplace. The system was so loud I thought that it might burst or catch on fire. Ran down some Thermal Paste and purchased a T9 screwdriver. Then followed the video step by step. I’ve never done anything close to tearing down and reassembling a gaming system. The system is so quiet now, it’s almost like it isn’t even on. The system was disgusting. Full of dirty caked on dust. Thank you so much for this video! My pocket book thanks you as well!
Appreciate this video. Just cleaned and repasted my launch PS4. :) With all the little 'gotchas' it would have taken far longer without this to follow along with.
Thank you very much for the video -- the most comprehensive I found --- without it it would have been extremely difficult task and the best way to remove the fan and heatsink to be able to clear out. all the crud and add fresh heatsink compound to he CPU Chip. Yes the 4 black wire connector into PSU was very tight-in and hard to remove -- one of black wires broke off so had to remove the old bit of broken black wire from the 2 knife connectors then carefully press the black wire deep into the knife connectors. Job done --fan now no longer racing at loud high speed and just running nice, slow and quiet. A must to keep screws separated per stage and with a rough sketch for each stage.
Awesome. Glad you managed to fix it. Thank you for the review I really appreciate the comments! If you can sub and share it would be amazing! Happy gaming!
Had a bit of a hard time disconnecting the power source from the motherboard so I ended up making the whole process harder on myself but I managed to get the whole thing cleaned and now I don't have a Boeing landing in my living room! Thanks so much!
@@ulysses_ody In the end I honestly couldn't. I looked up videos for removing either connection but I was very wary of it being damaged so I ended up having to work through rest of the process with the power supply still attached to the motherboard. I would say that if you are extremely careful you can do the full process it just takes a lot of care to not damage the motherboard. At the end of the day the cleaning of the heatsink definitely was the determining factor why my ps4 was so loud (I basically pulled out dryer lint that had caked the inside of the unit) The thermal paste cleaning was relatively easy as was the application of new thermal paste.
@@ulysses_ody I had a mildly scary moment with the ribbon of the Blu ray drive upon disconnection but I haven't had any issues with reading discs. Patience and gentle but firm grips are key.
Thanks for the video, helped me to quiet my ps4 down! Also it was getting so hot it was shutting off. Thanks for the advice, might have saved me from having to buy a replacement system. Just cleaned it up and added new thermal paste, seems to be working good so far, I guess only time will tell. Either way, excellent video and much appreciated.
I followed this yesterday to the letter and the result is absolutely amazing. My PS4 is a gen 1 and has never been serviced. Started sounding like a jet engine at Christmas 2018 and when I opened it up there you couldn't see the heat sink or the vents at all because of dust. Applied the thermal paste, cleaned everything meticulously and it's as silent as it was the day I got it. Took me 40mins
Thank you so much for this in depth video. My playstation would not have lasted much longer. I cleaned two playstations with help from your video. Easy to follow and also explaining why you need to do what you do helps a lot. Thanks again

It's... Fixed? Wow. I'm so impressed that I did it after buying a torx set just an hour ago. Your video was super helpful but I also want to say that I've done the same to a PS3 and its the exact same level of difficulty. Instead of compressed air I just used microfiber cloths to collect the dust and Q tips for the rest. Super easy if you take your time and organize every piece and screw. Thank you sir! It's so quiet now that I had to put my ear on it to hear the 'jet engine'.

while I didn't follow this particular guide to the process (which is not to be taken as a statement on the quality of the work presented here by any means), I did the procedure, and cleaned the internals of my second-hand PS4 to the nines. To anyone on the fence about doing any kind of maintenanceon your PS4, I highly, highly recommend this procedure, as well as a hard drive upgrade.
Great video. Bought a PS4 off facebook the other day and followed this guide after watching several others. 1st side of heat sink seemed pretty clear but following this guide and doing the full strip down revealed a whole load of dust on the side that couldnt be seen.

Absolutely brilliant but also get a Nidec fan! My PS4 roared like a vacuum under any kind of load, followed your guide and now almost completely silent. My fat PS4 had one of the loud Delta fans so I swapped it for one of the later, quieter Nidec fans. The difference is night and day. If you're going this far you may as well swap the fan while it's opened. My PS4 has never been quieter even when it was new out of the box!

So I have the cuh 115a ps4, when I got down to the fan, it didnt have any sticky pads on it and the metal clip was instead below the fan itself. Is that ok? Or should I put some pads on and locate the clip on top of the fan?
Thank you, Simply the best how to. You discuss every part in depht. After cleaning my ps4 for the 3rd time it would still be extremely loud. So now I did the thermal paste replacement and it works wonders. Never thought my ps4 would be so quite even when playing RDR2. 😁😂😂 lol I'm glad the guide worked for you. Happy gaming!
Hey guys,
first of all, thank you for this video!
This is amazing thank you so much for your comments. Please share to spread the good word :)
Is it fine if I leave my PS4 unplugged overnight ?
And what would happen if I didn’t leave it unplugged for that time
Yes that will be fine
Hey, is replacing the thermal paste absolutely necessary if im cleaning out a (most likely) clogged heatsink? I can't just leave the old stuff on there?
my power supply cable came right off(ripped off) but that was the only bad part in the whole procedure. Im also glad its one of the last things you worry about when you are putting the ps back together, even if you rip the cable you can just keep cleaning. I cleaned everything then went out to a computer shop and got that power supply cable for 5 bucks. Didnt even take me 20 minutes to get that cable.
Amazing, yeah gotta be gentle with the cables, they are getting old after all!
Glad I can help. A sub, like and share would go a long way. Happy gaming
One of the best instructions on TH-cam. Thank you for such clear instructions and reassuring all of us, with your walkthru. Im now a very popular uncle and their PS4 doesn't sound like a jet engine, it was so clogged with dust. Thank you again.
Thank you! Means a lot when I see comments like this! Happy gaming to everyone lol
This is by far the best video explaining how to disassemble the ps4, clean everything including putting the thermal paste on and reassembling everything back to stock.
Just want to say a massive thank you for your video. Followed your instructions and now I have an almost silent PS4. Thank you, big thumbs up
I had followed your video step by step and my console had never sounded this quiet before!
Your welcome. I'm glad it helped. A sub, like, share etc would help me greatly. :) happy gaming
If not, well you know what happens then...
i have had a loud ps4 for so many months now.
i followed your guide and stripped it down to the chassis and replaced the crumbly thermo paste and it runs perfect now. can play for hours and the fab hardly ever runs full speed now.
no need for mods or fan mods as the ps4 is properly designed.
i found that most of the problem was the build up of dust on the fins of the main heat sink. this would of stopped airflow over half of the the heat sink.
your guide was a good help to put ot back together as i forgot where some screws went.
one extra thing i did wan the plate that puts pressure on the cpu i bent a little more so there was some extra pressure on there. also.if you do go
That’s awesome I’m glad it helped :) happy gaming dude!
You are the real MVP. My ps4 was so loud, like a highway. After i did all these things, my ps 4 was silent. I cant even tell that it is on. Cleaning all the components and replacing the thermal paste its helping a lot. Thank you for the video. +1 subscriber.
Awesome thank you for your support I'm glad it has helped you out. Happy gaming!
Hey man I just wanna say thank you 🙏 this has changed my ps4 drastically, in about an hour it went from shutting off when loading any game to be able to play everything while sounding like it’s switched off !
I’ll admit I gained two extra screws 🤷♂️ but besides that it good 👍🏻
Cheers dude I'm glad it has helped you out. Happy gaming mate but I would advise to try and put the screws back in it lol
Same here , but I had 2 big t9 , 1 small t9 and a small black screw left over lol but everything is working amazing.
Fantastic guide. I'm an experienced PC builder and found this very helpful for guiding disassembly and rebuild. I personally use a grounding cable to ground myself because I'm paranoid. Everything went perfectly. Console went from screaming fan noise to absolute silence. Many thanks.
Its funny iv done smd part repairs to a ps4 yet i still have to watch a youtube vid to make sure im doing it right, good job man, very clear
You just help me get a free PS4! Guy said it was broken and I could have it. Followed you great step by step instructions. It now runs with no issues, thank you very much.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video my PS4 is running very quiet now
Your welcome. Please like sub and share to spread the good word!
100% RECOMMENDED
My PS4 is now ninja silent. Gonna try on heavy games and see the difference. Thank you for this guide! As well as those who gave tips here and forum pages.
Just done this now, and wow, what a difference. Seems completely new, just out the box!! Thanks mate!!
You're welcome glad its helped out
I’ve had my PS4 since a game called destiny 1 was released and I actually never fully cleaned it until now and omg I can’t hear a thing!! This video is and was beyond a life and money saved 👌🏾👌🏾
Do you know what you are mate. An absolute bloody legend. Great video.
Lol thanks dude. Glad it has helped you out. Happy gaming!
One tip, I used needle noses pliers to remove some of the connectors. Didn’t want to damage wires, this worked perfectly
Thanks for the video. It was really informative and my PS4 is running a lot quieter and not saying the temperature is too hot. Once again thanks
No worries happy gaming
Appreciate this video. Just cleaned and repasted my launch PS4. :) With all the little 'gotchas' it would have taken far longer without this to follow along with.
Thank you very much for the video -- the most comprehensive I found --- without it it would have been extremely difficult task and
the best way to remove the fan and heatsink to be able to clear out. all the crud and add fresh heatsink compound to he CPU Chip.
I’ve been stuck on that for 30 minutes tried using pliers but it won’t disconnect how did you do it??
Xalander Carter Damn. Thank you for the advice did you have any problems disconnecting other connections or just the power supply?
@@ulysses_ody it will seem like the most delicate accordion in history so a stable place to work with plenty of space is definitely key.
Awesome I’m glad my video has helped you out! Happy gaming!!
Amazing so glad it has given your console a new lease of life! Happy gaming my friend!
@@SinisterCloud thanks dude, honestly, sorted the problem immediately with no issues, thanks again
Thanks for the tutorial, got bored however so just used a water blaster.
Thank you so much for this in depth video. My playstation would not have lasted much longer. I cleaned two playstations with help from your video. Easy to follow and also explaining why you need to do what you do helps a lot. Thanks again
Glad it went well for you dude. Happy gaming.
Great guide. I’ve just cleaned my vanilla PS4 with this video and done it easily. Thank you!
Nice. Happy gaming dude
Great video, I followed step by step and now my original PS4 is as quite as a mouse. Not really stressed it yet but can easily tell the difference straight away!
Thanks for the help
What was that 8:07 that sound at the background holy moly a zombie lol
🤣
I scrolled down in the comments to see if anyone else heard this hahaha
@@jimmytlg i did
It's... Fixed?
PS4 runs silently thanks to you, top video!
Hello Mr SinisterCloud, i would like to thank you for this excellent video. I have the original ps4 CUH-1003A. This was the first time i opened it up, cleaned it and changed the thermal paste. Sony Airlines NO more, the diffrence in sound from the fan was remarkable. It runs quiet now. The heatsink was full of dust and the thermal paste was almost gone from the cpu. Once again, thank you Mr SinisterCloud, love from Sweden. 🇸🇪🤜🤛
I had some issues with the powersupply cable 5:10 and the cable 7:35. Felt like the plastic was stuck and i had to use quite bit of force to remove it.
Thank you so much! I literally just followed every step on this video. Thank you cause... I was able to clean the whole insides of our PS4. The Heat sink was soooo thick of dust. My only problem is that I think I got excited putting em back together I have 2 screws extra.. 😅 oh well... I think its fine 😇
Thanks, I used this video to clean my PS4. I followed your steps and now my PS4 is a lot more silent! Liked and subscribed.
Dude tnx alot. I tought the end of my ps4 was nearby thats how loud it was. Now its so quiet i had to check it was still on lol.
That’s awesome news! I’m glad it helped you out :) if you can please like, sub and share to help me out! Cheers!
Sinister Cloud already done mate!
Legend thank you. I’ll be bringing more content soon :)
Is it ok if I don't change thermal paste and Just clean my ps4?
Nishit shetty i only did the vent and the side. Didnt do the paste.
Thanks mate great tutorial, I took it apart and it no longer sounds like a 747 taking off in my room. Thanks again!
Thank you big time I can't tell you how much this vid saved me. And if you thought your heat trap was bad mine was literally caked in dust half way, I think an actual bunny came out of it.
HAHA 😂 brilliant. I am glad it’s helped you out. By the sound of it saved your PS4 lol. It would really help me out if you could like, sub and share... thanks!
Hahababbababba......Same gonna Happen with me..
Fantastic tutorial, step by step accuracy. Made my 6 year old very happy to get the PS4 running again.
Thanks alot for putting all the time into this video, it helped me fix my sons jet ps4, now its that quiet it makes me wonder if I put it back together correctly hehhe.
Lol you are welcome. Glad it has helped sort the noise
@@SinisterCloudposted you a pic on twitter, think it's like 5-6years of dust. It was covering about 90% of the vent lol.
One of the best DIY instructional video I've ever used.. Your instructions are clear and precise. My son and I cleaned his ps4 successfully. A million times thanks
Your ps4 looks happy and clean😀
It is lol
while I didn't follow this particular guide to the process (which is not to be taken as a statement on the quality of the work presented here by any means), I did the procedure, and cleaned the internals of my second-hand PS4 to the nines. It used to run so loudly that you could hear it from the floor down from us in my apartment, to purring like a kitten.
To anyone on the fence about doing any kind of maintenanceon your PS4, I highly, highly recommend this procedure, as well as a hard drive upgrade.
Thank you very much, I did this with my brother it took me 10 hours but we finally made it 😊And the PS4 works excellently
Awesome I'm glad it's worked for you. Happy gaming :)
10 hours lol that's crazy but at least it was successful 👍
Took me 30 minutes but good job at least u did it 😂
Great video. Bought a PS4 off facebook the other day and followed this guide after watching several others. 1st side of heat sink seemed pretty clear but following this guide and doing the full strip down revealed a whole load of dust on the side that couldnt be seen.
Glad it helped dude.
I did it, bruv. Finally mustered the courage, opened it up and repasted and cleaned everything. Preliminary tests show the console is running quiet as a fucking mouse.
*THANK YOU!* You're a lifesaver.
To anyone who if ever reads this; do it. It's scary, but you need to take a leap of faith.
Cheers man I appreciate the comments. Happy gaming bro!

You're welcome! Happy gaming 😁
Cheers!, ps4 was loud for some time and now it's silent
Absolutely brilliant but also get a Nidec fan!
My PS4 roared like a vacuum under any kind of load, followed your guide and now almost completely silent. My fat PS4 had one of the loud Delta fans so I swapped it for one of the later, quieter Nidec fans. The difference is night and day. If you're going this far you may as well swap the fan while it's opened. My PS4 has never been quieter even when it was new out of the box!
Couldn't of done it without you thank you
Excellent tutorial.. was shocked by how my heatsink looked... 60% of it was clogged with crap.. Thank You
@E E Wipe dawg
Thank you! Explained clearly and logically. Helped me no end :D
Awesome I'm glad it helped you out.
thank you so much for this walkthrough. Even though I do this for a living, its never good to go into a machine you dont know (i even ended up with 3 screws loose and had to go back in!)
Hey bro thanks for the video i fix my best friend thanks to you great way to explain and show the whole process 5 star rating keep up the good job and thanks again mate
That means a lot! Please like sub and share to help others as well.
Thank you so much! PS4 sounds silent. When I turned it on and saw the log in screen and couldnt hear the fan I thought I had messed something up but it just turns out that your video made it that way. Thanks again so much, overheating problems wouldnt have stopped without you.
Thank you very much. Happy gaming.
Thanks took me three hours because had the power supply wire stuck under the frame making me dissasemble everything and putting everything back together butt after tried it on loaded ark and it turned from a jet engine to a silent fan I used 8 dallor Corsair thermal paste from Best buy
how did you managed to solve that? my power supply cable won't come off by any means...
Kowales takes lots of force ngl 💀 dam I don’t even remember putting tht comment down 😂
Followed every step and it works. My PS4 was like a vacuum cleaner even while on TH-cam! Cleaned out all the dust and used TG-7 paste, night and day difference thank you sir 👍

Thanks for this video. It was a great breakdown of the process. It cured my overheating issue. Again thank you for sharing this.
You are most welcome ;)
Hands down absolutely the best step-by-step diy video ever. Thank you so very much.
If u think about it a PS4 is a pc the opportunity system is just different from a technology perspective
i know this video is old, but for me this one is really the best one to do this. i watched like 100 tutorials the how to do it (even on spanish that's my natal idiom)
i watched your video like 6 times just to memorize what you're doing and finally today i did exactly what you do. The only thing is i did it in 4hs because i literally cleaned everything and taked my time to did it perfectly. Now it's looks like when i bought it (4yrs ago) so.. ill guess you will know who dusty and loud that thing was.
ill save this video just if i have to do this again or do this to a friend, really appreciate this one.

Thanks for everything. I bought the equipment for very cheap on eBay. Took me about an hour. But my PS4 is so silent now. Thank you

Took me 4 hours. Mainly cuz the fucking torx on the ps4 have that fucking round thing inside, so you need a screwdriver with a hole in it...I didn't have one.
Removing stickers no longer voids warranty
really?
Thanks for this - very helpful! I just took apart my PS4, removed the dust (wasn't too bad) and replaced the thermal paste. Started back up no problem :-)
Awesome vid. Exactly how they should be done.
Cheers dude.
Thanks so much for this! Followed the video to do my launch PS4 and it’s dead silent now! Great work.
Wondering if anyone can help, I've done the steps in the video, my ps4 is running great HOWEVER the antenna (the thin black wire connected to the metal plate) is not working properly and doesn't pick up the signal from my controller! Any advice?
connect the charger to the ps4 and then charge it temporarily to connect it manually and maybe the wireless will connect?
I have never had this issue
Thank you so much dude, the step what you said "most people ignore" was ignored on the teardown video I watched, I was annoyed that the new thermal paste had no impact but when I went back in and did what you said, the heatsink was COVERED IN DUST. Thank you so much

So I have the cuh 115a ps4, when I got down to the fan, it didnt have any sticky pads on it and the metal clip was instead below the fan itself. Is that ok? Or should I put some pads on and locate the clip on top of the fan?
Same thing I thought I lost them for a second
@@anthonybowen2168 so what you did?....
Thank you,
Simply the best how to. You discuss every part in depht. After cleaning my ps4 for the 3rd time it would still be extremely loud. So now I did the thermal paste replacement and it works wonders. Never thought my ps4 would be so quite even when playing RDR2. My tip for others is to just take your time and take it easy, especially on stubborn connectors. You'll be fine. If you have one of the first ps4's you might want to replace your fan too.
Thank you and I am glad it has helped you with your console. Happy gaming!
