I usually do not write comments but for this video, I had to. First, I have to say thank you very very much for the video as it helped a lot in my case. Therefore, here is my experience. My PS4 is 4+ years old (CUH-1208b) and it has been making loud noises no matter whatever game I play and It was very annoying because of this I had to stop gaming. My warrant was long gone and I did not wanted to get it fixed in a local shop so decided to take the risk to fix it myself so I followed your video and it was a success for me. Now I can hardly hear any noise even on lengthy game session. I do hear a very little noise on some games but I guess that is common. It almost took me 5+ hours to finish this process, as I did not wanted to rush or mess up anything so I took my time and finally succeeded. I used Iso propyl alcohol to clean the fan and other plastic materials and the thermal paste I used is Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound. Thank you very much.
Hey! I know you have uploaded this video over 2 years ago but I just wanted to thank you. Your instructions were clear, I admit I was very nervous but I was able to do it correctly. I changed the thermal paste using arctic MX-4 thermal paste as you did and I cleaned the heatsink because there was so much dust inside. Thanks again.

Unfortunately no because you need to remove the entire motherboard from the PS4 to change the thermal paste. There are cables under the power supply which need to be removed to do so.
It is not recommended to remove the cable by the wires. Try holding the plastic bit from both sides and gently rock it left and right upwards. It’s should eventually come off.

you should do a pea-sized amount of thermal paste never the X as that will be too thick thus residue will go off the APU causing for overheating issues rather than a cooling solution. Either do a pea or rice size amount.
When I turned on my PS4 on Wednesday morning, I got to the PS4 logo then after that it turned into a dark blue/light black screen with my PS4 emitting a blinking blue light. AAI30 please I need your help where did you put the small metal square. You can see it at 18:08 with your screws, you have 2 long screws for the ground plate, and 3 f8 screws for the power supply. Then there is a sixth piece that is like a small square, what do I do with this???
Hey man. Thank you so much for the video. I followed your instructions to the bone but unfortunately, the issue still persists. The noise is so loud and people around me get irritated to it. Any idea what else I could do to fix it? 😅

Ive had my ps4 or 6 years so its about time i put new thermal paste lol bc its been overheating super bad even though i took it apart like you did a week ago and cleaned it it overheats right when i start up yt lol
@How Not To By supposed to heat up, do you mean the top of the ps4? And what's the warm air you're talking about? The only warm air I know is the stuff that's coming out the back, but I thought it was supposed to do that.
@How Not To Mine's a regular ps4, I replaced the fan but didn't do anything to the thermal paste. The system is so quiet now I can barely hear the fan anymore and it doesn't give me the overheating message or shut down anymore. So that's good. But the top cover is pretty warm. The fan and heatsink must be doing their job since I can feel the hot air being blown out the back, but is it okay even though the top cover is hot? Fan is quiet. Or should I have applied new thermal paste?
@How Not To That's good to know. Perhaps it still has some paste left even though it's almost 4 years old. It wasn't perfect but it was still a little wet as far as I could tell. I added an external fan for safe measure, it seems to keep the system a little cooler. If I ever get the overheating message and shutdown, I'll replace the thermal paste. Or I'll do it if I'm bored. Just replaced the fan and I don't wanna tear it all down again.
@How Not To Is it safe to assume the ps4 will display an error message if the paste goes bad and shutdown automatically before it causes damage to the apu? I know it has built in safety if the fan goes out so I assume it's the same case for the thermal paste as well since it all depends on the temperature?
@How Not To So I guess I should replace the thermal paste then. Although I don't think the external fans I use are damaging the system at all, they're pretty powerful and keep the system cool. I was using these fans till now as a replacement since the internal fan in the ps4 died 3 months ago. They bring in a lot of cold air from the right side of the ps4 where the intake vent is. They're much more powerful (two 12v dc fans) than the ps4's fan, all I did was aim one where the ps4's fan is supposed to be in the front and the other towards the heatsink, both about an inch away from the ps4. It's concentrated air maybe that's why I had absolutely no issue for three months other than the sound they make. Normal blower fans wont do it. I'd say this whole setup kept the ps4 even cooler than the actual fan inside it. Hot air was being expelled out the rear in great force. But then again, this was before I took it apart so the thermal paste was intact. I also had the ps4 raised on a stand for better airflow underneath. Either way it was a fun temporary solution till the original replacement fan arrived which I installed a day ago. Now I just keep the external fans for safe measure since they do bring in the cool air. I don't see why I should remove them seeing they kept the system cool when it had a broken internal fan. So they definitely do something on my cuh 1215a model. Either way, once I replaced the broken fan, it doesn't overheat or shut down anymore so that's a win. Hot air still goes out the exhaust. I'll keep the thermal paste in mind though. It is getting pretty old, but ps5's just around the corner.
at 5:47 when u remove that black plastic cover, underneath there is a small metal thing with a hole on the motherboard. On my ps4 there is a screw in that hole screwed in from the other side so i cant remove the motherboard. Do u know how i can remove this. thanks
You need to remove the power supply at the underside of the PS4. It is where there is a metal shield with 2 screws. Watch the beginning of the video to further understand. At 1:28
This was pretty simple to do and yet somehow when I put it all back together, the fan didn't work and the discs no longer read. I must have broken one of the wires -_-
AAI30 I have, apparently there was something stuck inside the fan, and the disc problem occurred because I forgot to push the clip holding the wire under the power bank down.

Is it on if u lose one tiny black screw and it goes in the ps4?
It should switch on
hey when i took off the motherboard there was a little black cable coming from where the blue ray tapes were? i don’t know if it broke off please help
That is the WiFi antenna cable and it plugs in next to the power supply white plug.
AAI30 do you have anything i can message you on i really need help?
discord? instagram??
Where about do you need help on?
AAI30 putting the motherboard back in and the plug that’s coming from the blue ray strips i can’t put it back in, and there’s 3 wires coming from the fan and i can’t take out the motherboard because i’m scared it’ll break them, can i message on anything else?
i took out the 2 torxs, but its so hard to lift the cover...any advice? nd yes, this is the model. Im doing this literally right now
Is this the top or bottom cover?
@@AAI30 is ok, I managed to do everything and the noise stopped. But now, I have a new problem. Discs won't go in! 😭😭😭
I would recheck all the ribbon cable connections under the power supply.
@@AAI30 perfect, I will try it tomorrow. I let you know. Thanks man
you should do a pea-sized amount of thermal paste never the X as that will be too thick thus residue will go off the APU causing for overheating issues rather than a cooling solution. Either do a pea or rice size amount.
JustShredded should I put some on the heat sink
No. Like JustShredded mentioned, only put a pea-sized amount of thermal paste on the CPU only.
AAI30 oh ok
With this model how do we clean the heat sink
I used isopropyl alcohol pads which is safe
My PS4 overheating even tho I still cleaned it up spotless clean 😟
super helpful I have the same computer
Thank you
When I turned on my PS4 on Wednesday morning, I got to the PS4 logo then after that it turned into a dark blue/light black screen with my PS4 emitting a blinking blue light. I've searched for hours but haven't got anything yet. My ps4 is the original version model CUH-1215A. Have you guys got any idea what happened to my ps4?
I believe this refers to the blue light of death.
@@AAI30 do you know any possible issues on why?
Unfortunately no sorry. Try researching more about it online.
Did u ever fix it ?
Your camera cut out at the exact moment that you put the aluminum f1 plate back, how did you manage to put the small metal plate back, it won’t fit
It has a small number 4 on it and it won’t fit back in I really need your help
Sorry for the delay in replying. May I know if it’s the tiny metal plate on top of the heat pipes? Which I installed at 12:45 time lapse (Which in the video was slightly rusted) Or is it the big metal top?
AAI30 no it’s the grounding plate installed at 18:09 right before the camera dies.
AAI30 please I need your help where did you put the small metal square. You can see it at 18:08 with your screws, you have 2 long screws for the ground plate, and 3 f8 screws for the power supply. Then there is a sixth piece that is like a small square, what do I do with this???
AAI30 I solved it, it goes under the black plastic piece on the top
Hey man. Thank you so much for the video. I followed your instructions to the bone but unfortunately, the issue still persists. The noise is so loud and people around me get irritated to it. Any idea what else I could do to fix it? 😅
Hi
What brand of thermal paste did you use, and did you apply enough
Also did you put back the little thermal pads?
Another area to check is if have you tighten the heat sink clamp well?
I hope this helps.
@@AAI30 Thanks for the reply, mate. I used Cooler Master Mastergel Regular. I didn't touch the thermal pads as you've mentioned in the video. I'll check the heatsink clamp again and update you. AGain, thank you so much for the reply!
@@AAI30 Hi mate. I just wanted to let you know that I have had no luck with it. I tightened the clamp as much as I could but no dice. :(
ran through the whole thing and my ps4 runs quietly now, with the caveat of my disk drive not working. oh well i guess
do you let the thermal paste dry?
No. It shouldn’t be dry
AAI30 alright thx
15:45
I got 2 little silver crossscrew left 😅
Which thermal paste?
I used Arctic MX-4 thermal paste.
You from New Delhi, India?
No
I tried it and it works but my new problem now is the ejecting disc is not working since i tried your tutorial i cant eject or put disc on my ps4..plss help
Did you properly connect all the cables? Check the connection at the bottom of the power supply.
You should be able to eject discs with the PS4 controller
Does the thermal paste hv to be arctic silver 5?
No. You can use any non conducive thermal paste. Just make sure it’s good quality.
AAI30 what do u mean by non conductive
You sometimes get conductive thermal paste which can be dangerous for the chips
AAI30 i hv ordered thermal paste ehich says cooling thermal grease 30g-a portable thermal paste pc fir CPU high thermal conductivity durable thermal paste for pc
AAI30 so can i use it
How long until we can turn the ps4 on??
You can turn it on soon after you have finished.
@@AAI30 ok thx 👍
It is getting pretty old, but ps5's just around the corner.
done mine tricky job you have to get right amount themel paste
Can't remove my power supply, too hard
Keep lifting it evenly from both sides. It should eventually come off.
at 5:47 when u remove that black plastic cover, underneath there is a small metal thing with a hole on the motherboard.
I must have broken one of the wires -_-
Did you double check if you connected the cables properly
AAI30 I have, apparently there was something stuck inside the fan, and the disc problem occurred because I forgot to push the clip holding the wire under the power bank down.
Are you sure that's the right amount of thermal paste? Seems too much imo
It was to much yeah
This worked but now my wireless controllers don't work
Did you refit the antenna cable in 2:53 ?
Scared asf to do this
You're not alone
Dude seriously get better lighting I can barely see
Good job genius on not telling us which tool sizes you used, or not showing us what you unscrewed.
