Also, did I mention that they are all friends of Princess Twilight Sparkle. So, I think that hanging out with them is how you would get ahead.

To be fair. The show pretty much every episode forgets such silly things as that. Like almost never does anyone stare at the Fourth Alicorn Princess when she is traveling around. It's not like she has a few things sticking out about her.

There should have been a sin for this episode being the last time Diamond Tiara and Sliver Spoon having speaking roles and having any significant role in the show.
Nah, I think it was necessary that these two didn´t show up anymore. Now that they´re no longer working against the CMC, they would make a lot of problems too easy to solve.

I always felt that Diamond and her mother, Spoiled Milk (who had 2 other speaking roles after this episode) needed one more episode where they learn for real why they should not make fun of blank flanks. I think we can all agree that this is the best CMC's episode in the FIM series, well okay maybe not the best one but it sure is awesome since it's the episode where they finally get their cutie marks.
It's definitely the best. Nothing comes even close to this episode concerning the CMCs and I consider this one of the best episodes in the whole series.

Sad that their cutie marks were all the same and not unique since the whole helping others thing was really more of something they liked to do on the side then as a full on job like seriously their was no point it's just lazy writing
Shes good at delegating. This episode was pointing her in the right direction with her realizing that she can use that talent to help. She gathered the ponies together and was able to use her talent to inspire (if you will) the others give them motivation (there’s the word I was looking for) to get things done. That’s actually very useful.

Diamond Tiara was another "Trouble Shoes" situation. Both knew what their cutie mark meant, but failed to realize how it could be beneficial. In Troublr Shoes case, his mark meant bad luck, but he never realized that bad luck would benefit him as a rodeo clown. Diamond Tiara can get others to do what she wants, but failed to realize she could use this to inspire and motivate rather than blackmail and bully.
Here's a big sin: This series would go on the stress that a Cutie Mark does not define a pony's place in the world (the episode with Rumble comes to mind), and yet characters like Diamond Tiara, Cosy Glow and Trouble Shoes exist. Diamond Tiara and Cosy Glow have known no other way of life than manipulating others to get their way, and Trouble Shoes was branded (literally and metaphorically) as bad luck in the eyes of his fellow ponies. That said, Cutie Marks literally determine who is good and who is evil among ponies, thus making their fates predestined. I can't help but wonder if this is the work of the Tree of Harmony, which I've previously theorised to be an omnipotent being manipulating EVERYTHING as part of a master plan centuries in the making that will ultimately see the Tree rule the world with Equestria as its untouchable throne, the ponies either cast out, killed or enslaved in accordance with its will.

From what I've seen, is more like a cutie mark is not determined by a pony's personality nor is a predetermined destiny thingy, but instead is the visible manifestation of the skills a pony acquired during their early years. No pony has been shown to get a mark in something they weren't good at doing already, and the mark only appears after they understand themselves enough to really know what things they enjoy to do and which ones don't.
More like a proof of maturity and self-understanding than other thing.
Also, just because ponies always get a mark that suits their interest and traits at the moment of realizing what they are good at, doesn't mean later in life they can choose how and what they want to use those talents for.
By example, an accountant mark can be used to get a job at a bank, but also it could be used to commit tax fraud. Or a pony with a henchmen mark can help in a villain's lair or in a merchant ship's crew. It also explains why some ponies have cutie mark problems: they know what they are good at, but not how to put their talent into practice.
Is not that the mark determines what a pony will do with their lives, but rather is the pony who decides what to do with the talents they learned along the way.

I think it depends on how you understand your cutie mark. As for the crown, it can be a symbol of a spoiled rich child, manipulator and also a great leader. It is just a picture on your leg, who knows how to read it?

I have a special attachment to this episode. After only a few months watching the show, growing from hating the theme to grudgingly loving it, becoming a true fan, this was the first episode that got me to cry. It represents my OWN transformation from a bit of a bully and a terrible friend to a goofy but honorable young man. Even so... * DING *

Should have reformed the villain trio instead, the one set of villains who actually got character development instead of just having an alternate explanation for their behavior being forced on them at the last second.

Yes, the episode that launched a thousand headcanons in my brain! A thousand now-outdated ones, like them being chosen ones to stop Janken-themed villains from an underrated video game while traversing the France-like setting of another, not quite so underrated video game.
This episode is so incredibly amazing, one of the best of the entire show in my book.
Personally, I think it would've been better if they didn't get their cutie marks. It could've been an episode about accepting the fact that it's just not the right time yet. Then maybe in the finale there could've been a shot showing the three of them grown up with their marks, but no big fanfare made of it since they already moved on.

Not removing sins when the CMC got their cutiemarks is a sin on itself, which results in a paradox of sins, which is also a sin on itself.
One thing that could've happened is diamond tiara talking to cozy glow and reforming her. I mean they're (or at some point) crazy manipulative ponies, they have a lot in common. I'd actually prefer if cozy is reformed
Like she's a filly, why did they turn cozy into stone? They gave starlight, sunset, tempest, discord, and many others to reform! Why didn't cozy get a chance? Sure she tried to drain all the magic from equestria but she's a kid lol
I absolutely loved this episode when it came out, and for me it's still in the top tier.

It’s an episode where the Aesop is not feeling resigned to an abrasive, bullyish role, and it never being too late to try something else.
Immediately undermined by Hasbro shifting focus to Diamond Tiara’s mother once Diamond herself stops acting like an abrasive bully.

The sin about DT sharing certain personality traits with Cozy Glow made me realize they could have not done this episode and had Diamond Tiara fill her role. Actually they could have kept the general thrust of this episode but have Silver Spoon be the one who reforms and that plus her awful mother provide the motivation for Diamond Tiara to do all the stuff Cozy does. Imagine: getting the villain backstory before the actual villainy happens
I remember watching this episode live and going bonkers when the CMC got their cutie marks, so much so I got yelled at by my mom for being too loud lol.

In this episode, I have to give credit where credit is due. Diamond Tiara’s solo song is spectacular! I almost started tearing up, because her singing voice is so beautiful. One son removed in my opinion, for her beautiful solo performance.

I was never sure how it was "obvious" that Diamond Tiara's talent is making other ponies do what she wants. What if her talent is making jewelry? Appraising artifacts? Mentoring others in royal etiquette? Marrying into royalty? Styling pony hair with expensive headdresses/crowns? Sure, she probably knows what it is because of what she did when she got her mark, but this is never explained and she seems awfully certain despite the very distant connection.
This is one of my favorite episodes
After this diamond tiara and silver spoon will never have a speaking role after this. Ten more sins!
