Hi Jason I’m Brian decheney from Michigan and I never even knew there was such a thing as a moisture meter I would love try it out I mostly only burn green wood I got a out door wood boiler and green wood is hard to get going if it goes out
Hi Brian, unfortunately the giveaway is over but there are product links in the description below if you want to purchase one. You will really notice a difference if you season your wood first. Take care, Jason.
Hi Jason: I’m from Butte, Montana. I’ve seen no significant difference in testing a split piece of firewood verses the end grain. The key is, it must be cut or split and then tested shortly thereafter. I buy firewood logs and as soon as I cut the log down into processor length, I check the moisture content. If it’s over 20% the log gets put aside. We have a lot of beetle killed trees that have been standing dead for many years and these typically have a moisture content of 11% to 16%.
Thanks Richard, excellent information. The moisture meter is good but once we get a system going (and if the wood source is consistent), we do not routinely check the wood. The checking on the ends and the sound when we load and dump the wood is all the feedback that is needed!
Thanks for the review! Nice unit. I’m down south of you in New England. RI to be specific.
Cool, thanks for watching our channel!
Ha y Jason I agree with you wood definitely gets too dry.
I am Jim Behrend from Woodstock GA USA.

Awesome, thank you! Glad to hear you are enjoying our content.
I didn't know that you lose energy burning green firewood. I will be sticking around for more
Excellent, thanks!
Well the information you have with the experience and knowledge helps me bring it to the table when I have to talk with the foresters I have to deal with on a weekly basis. Now yes you have your own property to manage. Me on the other hand have to get permits for my projects. So I like to get as much knowledge as possible
Burning wet wood leads to extra condensation in the chimney as well as using up potential energy for heat to the home! Not sure it leads to creosote buildup, but I bet it does. I always have my wood supply a year ahead. Very dry wood should be the best given the fact that there is less moisture to have to vaporize. It burns faster but gives up more heat in that time. Here in New Hampshire it would be hard to get air dried wood less than 10%. Looks like a nice moisture meter.
Thanks George. We agree with you. I think wet wood contributes to creosote build up. It takes some of the energy to boil the moisture out of the wood and I think that lowers the flue gas temperature overall... lower temperatures in the fire box likely also contribute to more inefficient (and incomplete) burning of the impurities in the wood?
Hi Jason, My name is Keith and I'm from Bryant Pond, Maine. I also like the small size of that moisture meter. It looks like a great little unit.

Hi Jason iam from quebec on the gaspe coast
Hi Vernon, thanks for watching and Happy Holidays!
Moisture meter readings have a temperature dependence. Typically calibrated for about 20 C. Read lower at lower temps. Taking readings at freezing temperatures can be misleading
This is good information and I figured as much. Thanks for sharing!
I would like to have that moisturizer meter. I live in Halifax Nova Scotia.
Thanks for watching and Happy Holidays!

I’d like on of those moisture meters. I’m from Nova Scotia
Thanks for watching!
If the firewood is “too dry”, what’s the bad effect ? Thnx…
Here's my assessment and it is open for debate. When wood is dry, it will take on the ambient moisture level of its' surroundings. I think really dry wood burns faster which means a few more trips to reload but it should provide great heating value... I think the issue is if the wood gets too old and starts to decay... then you lose some of the stored energy that was originally in the wood. Thanks for watching!
Would love a moisture meter, Ontario canada 0:59

Hi Yves, thanks for your support. Happy Holidays! Jason
I’ve heard over the years that 12 percent moisture is ideal. I burned some maple a while ago that was 17 percent moisture. It spit water out the end with in a couple of minutes.
Sure I like a Erick Hill moisture meter. I’m from Prince Edward Island, Canada 👍🏻👍🏻🪵🪓🔥🎄
Hi Noel, thanks for watching our channel. We appreciate it!
@@OakMountainAcotts Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Oak Mountain Acotts 🪵🪓🔥🎄
Thanks Jason, nice moisture meter from Eric Hill. USA Ohio
Hi Mark, thanks for watching and Happy Holidays!
Hi Jason. Here in Lake Utopia Nb, I usually watch for cracking at the end of my sticks. Also, I watch the color of the wood. Sometimes, too, if you bang two pieces together, you can tell if it's dry. Yeah, I'd say a moisture meter would be easier and more accurate lol
Hi Corey, I think you have it figured out! Is your power on down there? Stay safe.
@OakMountainAcotts Good morning, Jason. We got our power back Thursday evening. There are still lots of people without power still though. Did the storm affect you guys?
@coreyhannan4263 we were out for 24 hours here. Not sure how we were that lucky. Trees down everywhere!
