Having the robot have his bottom half split from his upper half made no sense and made the robot too comical.😂😂
If Dr. Smith were to go back to Earth, he’d probably be arrested attempted murder when he sabotaged the mission. Oh the pain!
I know why John is always the one to go scary evil. It's because Guy Williams is more able to be scarier and more intimidating than the others. When he plays bad guys, he has this dark intensity about him. Guy could do a lot more than the show gave him.

About everyone speaking English. it's to bad the makers of the show didn't think of the idea of saying the computer was a universal translater like they did on star trek because it would have made more sense than everyone in the universe speaking English.
The Previous episode had the Anti Matter Man
Lost in Space prepared me for Star Trek. They both had great music themes especially in combat.
Forbidden planet prepared me for Star Trek and planet of the vampires
John Williams did most of the music for Lost in Space. Getting his chops ready for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jurassic Park, Hook, and the list goes on and on!
Season one was awesome. Next two seasons they had their budget cut, complaints about being to scary for prime time viewers and they thought the easiest way to go is make it the Smith and Will show.

❤ Lost in Space was one of the most best shows I ever saw when I was a kid I think I would have round about being five or six and if I was punished my mother would say you can't watch Lost in Space now going to bed and I would say no my Lost in Space shows on she'd say that's it go to your room I would come up the passage and I would lie on the floor lady I'm listening just to the music and how it started was so exciting for me I can never even miss no one show and even today it is the best show that I have ever seen thank you for the memories
Get the blu-ray and watch it on a flatscreen. Even with a cheap monitor it looks like nothing you ever saw before. Crystal-clear images. I bought them as soon as they were released in 2016 & could not believe my eyes after watching LIS for years on fuzzy-picture UHF.

Dr smith did this to robot for his convenience to serve him, it was mean to do this. Dr smith makes trouble for the Robinson family
“Oh, I’d be happy to help you, Professor Robinson, but you see, my back is extremely delicate today.”
I like how Dr. Smith looks out the window and says “Look! There’s Chicago!” and then later on: “That’s Duluth! I’d recognize it anywhere!” or something like that.
Look for its time for a kid this show was the BEST! I remember missing an episode and was so mad! Please stop the analyzing! My hubby knew I ❤ the show and bought me the robot.😊

The big problem with season 3 (apart from several episodes even dumber than most of season 2) was the order they ran them in. I've been playing with that, and surprised at how much better it is. In my current run, I swapped "Deadliest of the Species" and "Hunter's Moon", so when they crash in that, there's 8 "stuck on a planet" episodes in a row! I'm now into the end-run-- 5 "planet-hopping" episodes in a row. "The Flaming Planet" (clearly the one where's they're newly "back in space") followed by "Target Earth", "The Promised Planet", "The Great Vegetable Rebellion" and "Junkyard In Space". It also really helps NOT having 2 "evil duplicate" stories run back-to-back!
Regarding The Robot: budget and sloppy writing avoided something that should have been obvious early-on. The Robot, like the Jupiter 2, has ANTI-GRAVITY capability. HOW ELSE does he get up and down stairs, ladders ("Condemned Of Space"), holes in the ground "(The Lost Civilization") or in and out of a sedan chair ("Thief From Outer Space")? Like when they revealed the matter replicator (the one that looks like a beach cooler), showing the Robot FLOATING IN MID-AIR was really confirming what previous episodes had suggested over and over! So, YES, believe it nor not, The Robot floating there makes perfect sense, IF you've really been paying very close attention thru every previous episode.
Yes, these aliens were STUPID. Just think what better writing could have done with some of these stories! As others have said, Irwin Allen relied on TOO FEW writers, and the good ones supplied too few scripts. But, apart from Dr. Smith (someone REALLY needed to tell Jonathan Harris when to rein it in-- he WAS writing his own dialogue!!), the tone of this one was way better than, say, the Farnum B. stories or, GOD HELP US, "Princess of Space" (MY vote for the bottom of the barrel).
That's a great idea, rearranging them to make more sense. Are you using the filming order, or your own?
Good episode, but a few things off. (1) Will and Smith karate chop their fake counterparts and Smith notices the fakes have webbed fingers. But when the Smith fake wakes up, there is clearly no webbing on his hands. (2) The space pod was aboard the Jupiter when the fakes took off, but when they landed back on the planet, the space pod is sitting there on the ground.
Lost In Space was really swirling down the drain by this point in terms of storylines. I hate to think what would have happened if Irwin had agreed to do that 4th season.

I am one that would have loved to see a season 4 and the same for Star Trek. This not a kid or adult pespective, but an unconditional fan who loves these shows..

Yeah. I share the same sentiment. They really needed new writers if they had continued on. Another season with the same writers would have been a HUGE crap fest!!! They could have matured the show to reflect the changing times! Will and Penny were to old at this time to act like kids anymore! Instead, Irwin invested in Land of the Giants with the same writers!
This episode wouldn’t have been so bad, except for Smith separating the Robot in two, and the top half being miraculously defying gravity in mid air! So stupid. Even a kid wouldn’t buy this! Did love Will blowing up on Smith, suggesting he could have invented a padded cell!! Great burn, Will! And well deserved! The turd-pile “Grimaces” were also a bad look!

I've only recently discovered "Irving's Zoo" and I'm already a die-hard fan! I've sometimes heard that Irwin Allen tried to convert "Lost In Space" to something like "Batman", but Allen had a fixed pattern of creating brilliant shows, then systematically destroying them with idiotic scripts.
He had a bunch of really old writers who were burned out! If he had got some fresh blood, this series could have lasted a few more years!

Yeah, he was very cheap with his hack writers! They were burned out from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, the Time Tunnel, this show, and Land of the Giants! Same writers on all shows!

Yes! My complaints ARE ENDLESS!!! So they land on this unknown planet, go all the way back to Earth, immediately take off again, go BACK to the unknown planet, then take off AGAIN, but are still lost? At this point, the fuel consumption for lift offs and landings were completely thrown out the window, (Irwin: screw your egg-head science! I’m putting on a show)!!!
When the Jupiter 2 is about to land on the planet of the photos clones we can all hear the mysterious 🔔 bell sounds , ?

It would have been great to see Smith jump ship, and season 4 could show him being captured, court martialed, and be given a death sentence! Just make up the ending….does Smith escape and find a way back to the J2? Or do the Robinsons find out about his plight and have to hash out to rescue him?
I was 7 in 1967 and batman, voyage to bottom of the sea were my favorites, this wasn't bad but it seemed corny to me, not that Batman wasn't corny, pow, bam, splat.
I agree completely with your comments about the creative rut the show had reached by this point. I always thought that they threw away a lot of good story opportunities by abandoning some of the concepts introduced in the first season. These included the Tauron colonists and the weird rapid growth characteristics of the planet's flora and fauna. If I had been producing the show I would have established that what was left of the original sentient species on Priplanis had bio-engineered the rapid growth to deal with the environmental changes due to the planet developing a wild orbit. The Taurons could be there to truly colonize the planet, and the Robinsons would be stuck in the middle.
Yes. It's too bad Irwin let Jonathan Harris turn it into the Doctor Smith Show. There are those who think that was a good thing that saved the show. I am not one of them.

No explanation of how they got off the planet they were still stranded on last episode. Clearly, continuity had been thrown completely out the window at this point.

Which is it? In S1-E1, John Robinson is introduced as Dr. John Robinson. In this episode, John states that he is Professor Jihn Robinson.
The Dr. part is probably Ph.D., whereas "professor" is a teaching title. He's probably both.
Irwin Allen should have cast Billy Mumy and Angela Cartwright in the Poseiden Adventure. He could have casted all of them in the Towering Inferno or Airport ' 75.
This show really was a mixed bag. I enjoyed most of it, but that part where Smith split the Robot in half and DEFIED GRAVITY was unacceptable to me, EVEN AS A CHILD!! I could suspend belief for a good story, but I wasn’t a FREAKIN MORON!!!! No mention at all how Smith discovered anti-gravity!!
The writer Peter (Fudge) Packer was notoriously bad with science and Allen didn't care. As bad a writer as Packer he clearly had love for the space family. Allen's worst wlriter gor his shows has got to be William Welch hands down.

Whilst Earth felt tantalisingly close in the Toymaker and (sort of) Visit to a Hostile Planet, in this episode it lacked gravitas. Maybe the producers couldn't afford to reveal much of Earth because they had, in fact, FINALLY landed.
For some reason I had forgotten the Don and John imbroglio in this episode. It was fun watching it here, but it felt so much more persuasive in the previous Anti Matter Man episode.

They repeated the same plot line too many times, (duplicate Robinsons)! It usually was pretty good, but just repeated too many times!
Not always aliens with American accents. We got the awful Marcel Hillare, with his thick French accent TWICE in this season! So weird, but always laughed when he would say “spacesip”! Sounds like a drink they could have sold to 7/11!!

You speak the reality of this show. I got SOooo disappointed, even though I was little, but young. It got boring, but I still watched it- hoping. I didn't want it to end and that was a shock (overseas fan I was- it was show in Australasia.)

Personally, I felt that the first season was quite good, but after that, LIS became progressively not that great. It started to focus on Will, Dr. Smith, and the robot and their antics. It's like the writers forgot about the rest of the cast. That shanged a bit in the third season. Irwin Allen allowed Jonathan Harris to define Dr. Smith in the way he wanted.
Dr. Smith became very popular amongst fans and Jonathan Harris took the character to heart. Most actors try to avoid being stereotyped, but Harris didn't care.

Only like this episode. For some reason, I don't like it very much when Prof Robinson gets taken over by alien creatures. Enjoyed hearing the Biblical reference "get thee behind me". Makes me nostalgic for a time when people were not ashamed of Christ.

Ah, actually no, there were many dumb lost in space episodes. I did love it but smith's character never changed or put in his place. I used to hate smith, but as an adult, I saw the humour. Jonathan Harris was an awesome actor AND much of his performances were so camp, but I never saw that as a kid. I wish there were better storylines and more space travel (the mini-moo robots, the vegetable aliens were mental. So awful!)
It could have been so much better. Hey, it wasn't all bad, but I agree with this guy absolutely.
What use is the robot, that can split into 2 halves?
Two major errors with this episode...one with continuity. As the aliens take over the spaceship, the Space Pod is reunited with the Jupiter 2. When the spaceship makes it back to the alien planet after leaving Earth, the Pod is still where it initially landed. And with logic, if the Jupiter 2 did indeed land on Earth, after Will directs it back to save the family, why didn’t he track its path so they could all then return to Earth?
By this time I got the feeling they weren't that interested in returning to Earth and were just bopping around the universe seeing what they could see.
This could have been the next to final show,if their was a record of how to get to earth 🌎 they could have ended the show the next week and returned to earth.That would have been a great final way to end series.
If only. It seemed to vary from week to week whether they knew the way back to Earth or not, as we'll see.

@@dwashbur We used to have a kennel (86-02 Labs all 3 colors) Got too old to breed,, all them gone so we adopt. Have had cats and dogs over the years. All were older and we gave them as much as possible to their end. Now a Lab rescued from the streets and a cat that survived a fire in the neighborhood. The lab is young and I regret at 87 I cant play as much as he would like or needs but we have a completely fenced property so he can walk himself and chase squirrels.

I don’t remember Smith having those stripes on his sleeve…or wearing black, either. Mandela Effect?
The effect with the top part of the robot suspended always puzzled me as to how it was achieved. The top- part robot seems to bounce a bit as though still connected to his lower half which leads me to suspect a green screen fx was used. But Will appears to move his hand under the robot's torso, and there's also some weird shadows on the equipment behind the performers that make it look like a split screen was also used. I still can't quite figure it out.
Me neither. If it was done with wires, it was the best I've ever seen.
@@dwashbur I'm going to watch it on BluRay again to try and figure it out. Wish I could ring up Bill Mumy and ask him. I'm curious how it was done, but it's such a nonsensical thing to have this split robot scene. I mean, why does the top part remain hovering? Why does the robot come apart clean like that? Are there no wires or mechanical parts connecting the two halves?
If you look carefully you'll see the shadow of the suspension arm just beneath the robot torso on the wall.

True enough, but he would have said the buck stops at the producer's desk. Much like the captain of a ship or the head of a department, the producer is ultimately responsible for everything that happens on their watch.

How did aliens know how to pilot the Jupiter 2?
This episode has a hole in it why would the robinsons not try to go back to Earth even though they were being attacked by the missiles why did they try to head back to Earth even know aliens did it makes no sense to me and course the pod being on the planet again after they lifted it up why would they bring it back down that's a blooper

Probably because people are talking into their phones. Depending on the phone and operating system, it's often hard to do punctuation. I don't mind it, but I'm more ADD than most folks.
When I talk into my phone to do speech to text, I always say “comma” and “period” so that my sentences have those two things at least. @@dwashbur
I HATED WILL. HE NEVER LISTENED TO HIS PARENTS AND DOES WHATEVER HE WANTS AND NEVER RECEIVED A PUNISHMENT OR CONSEQUENCES THE DISOBEYING HIS PARENTS.
If Smith landed on earth wouldn't he be arrested for sabotage?
I'm not sure how many people outside the ship knew about his sabotage, so unless the family spoke up, probably not.

I agree, the show was spiraling downhill after season 1....Even Zachary Taylor said in an interview that he asked 'Dr.Smith' to be killed off by the 5th episode. Irwin Allen seemed unattached to anything he ever created while the fans adored his Sci Fi shows.

I loved watching LIS as a child. What I didn't love is your continued interruptions in this video. It was nauseating and I couldn't even watch it.
