I love LS motors, but I would've loved to see that GTO get a Butler Performance Ram Air V 400 crate motor married to a TKX and a Safe-T Track diff w/ 3.55 gears out back. Plus, I'd rather see Toro Red with that black top to make it pop.
The reason people are tired of ls builds , me included, they’re like mid 80s red and black mustang gt’s when you went to the track about half the passes were red and black mustangs I like to be something different so people can see my own creation
They did a build on a BMW recently , and I don't think it got nearly as many views . There's enough TH-cam channels that are anti-American pro-german Japanese cars . Let this one be American .
The only thing I don't like about the LS in a classic car . Is the individual coils mounted to the valve covers . It's bad enough that they're black valve covers . A classic muscle car deserves chrome valve covers . And a out of the way fender mounted coil .
Tommy, even tough this video was released a month ago, I would be nice to get a parts list like the “LS” swap motor mounts used in the next episode (S11, E16) which is not on TH-cam. Tell management that customers can’t tape, record, write down or get info on everything used. That would help everyone. You guys, the selling company, and “Gray TV Inc”. Thanks kindly!
Everyone hates the “LS” until it came to the fourth gen f bodies and short lived Holden/GTO in the states. Price out that Butler 400 stroker compared to an LS. 😅

Would you put a coyote engine in a 1969 RS/SS camaro , or put an LS in a 1968 Shelby ? Probably not . Why on Earth wouldn't you put a Butler Performance PONTIAC engine in this very iconic PONTIAC muscle car ?! LS in a '69 GTO 😢 (Spell check edit)
Tommy I understand that the LS is an incredibly easy swap and they make great power but I absolutely hate the L f,ng S simply because everyone is using them. It’s like no imagination. I would much rather have seen you use a real Pontiac engine like a 400 or 455 with some modern fuel injection but it’s not my build. At least you covered up those ugly plastic individual coils. However Tommy I have been watching you for years and I enjoy everything you build. You are a great craftsman.
Because it's a Chevy engine in a Pontiac. Back in the day, there was competition from other divisions of GM not just other manufacturers, they ALL wanted to be top dawg.
@@brotherscoobs Agreed. I put a 500 cubic inch Cadillac in a 77 Chevy pickup. It was different, but had more than enough power to haul a ton of weight on a half ton pickup. Plus it got 16 MPG on highway. Better than the 350 it replaced.
People back in the 60s said the same thing about the small block Chevy. A lot people didn't like the small block replacing the flat head or the nail head to be the engine to have

It was close to $7000 for the stroked Jeep engine , and the Cadillac 500 was under $2000 . I never really could wrap my head around that one . @@bertgrau3934
An LS engine in a GTO? Unless it's the imported Australian late-model GTO, that's just wrong. It should have a 400 or 455 Pontiac. Why the hell do people think this is the route to take?
I understand that a LS engine is really good in so many ways but i don't think you can or should stick them in everything. If you are doing a Ford or a Pontiac or other car manufacturer it should a brand specific engine
i'm a Pontiac guy, so i could make a pretty valid case for the 400 being one of the greatest engines ever built. awesome as the LS is, it'll never fill the 400's shoes, so it shouldn't live where a 400 did.
I installed a new clutch once and the the input splines just wouldnt go in until i took it all back out and fit it together on the garage floor, after that it was a snug fit geez (
First you LS-ted the 69 oldsmobile. Now the GTO. Why not the Butler 455 with a Fi-tech fuel injection or Holly sniper? So much hate these days for kerping it pure. And no, just because it's made by GM doesn't make it pure.

there is a time and place for a ls swap but a gto is not one of them a pontiac engine would of provifed so much better power for this application \
People need to quit hating on LS. They’re the way to go for a budget ish build per power.

@edwinj8275 Oh Yeah, also the 5.6L Endurance V8 in the Nissan Titan and the 5.7L I-Force V8 in the Toyota Tundra are both legendary engines as well.
The hate is because they are unneeded in a factory muscle car like a GTO. It's a crap move. Put one in a base model and no one cares as much.
@Spiritof_76 Putting an LS in a Tempest or Lemans they don't seem to care but to put one in a GTO (to them atleast) it's sacrilege.

That LS is the last thing that belongs in that car. Pontiac engines always ripped, made tons of torque and plenty of “reliable power.”

I liked Tommy's method for calculating inflation. Basically, power steering would've been the equivalent of an $800 option today.
