    I love finding a car sitting in the yard for years, put in some love, time and resources, and getting it back on the road. It's what being a car guy is all about

    Growing up(back in the 80's), my buddy had a 76 Dart (standard version) that we kinda fixed up with a bit of bondo and spray paint. No it wasn't anything of quality but it made the rounds cruising the town. And for a couple of teens it got us in a lot of parties 🎉

    I remember my brothers 72 dart, avocado green and the leaning tower of power. I was so impressed. Love these types of videos where you start with an easily affordable car and get it back on the road with tools most people have.

    In 1972 my parents purchased a new Dodge Darts Swinger Special. It had a 225 CID slant six, a three on the tree, manual brakes, manual steering, and no A/C. The only thing it did have was an AM radio with a single dash speaker. It was the car I took my driving test in and that three point turn was a beast with manual steering. I had to use five points to turn, but I still passed!

    Minor point, but brake shoes are not about momentum, but leverage. Assumimg a top anchor pin, the front shoe drives the rear into position during forward braking - rear shoe does most the braking, so it must have more surface. If the pin was on bottom [I think some pre war cars tried that], its the exact opposite: rear shoe drives the front, which would put the bigger shoe there.

    We had a '72 Dart Swinger when I was a kid. I learned to drive in that car. It had a 318 V-8 so it was peppier than a slant 6. It was gold with a dark green vinyl top and had magnum 500 wheels...it was a pretty sharp looking car. I wish I still had it.

      @@Pracaupodstaw Yep, that's why you gotta look outside the box for projects now, The HOT new build out here in Arizona are the Smog/Malaise Era cars from 73-85 because there plentiful and cheap often still running and driving for under a 3 grand. I daily drive a 73 Buick Regal that I bought for $1200 right after I got here and drove it home and then put another 5 k ish into, I just bought a 76 Cutlass for $2200 That I'm going to build into a weekend car.

      @@TheREALOC1972 Interesting. It is an option. I would obviously prefer a car from the 60s (possibly 50s or even 40s), but you know, the budget does not always allow you to fully realize your dreams. u, in Central Europe, an American muscle or pony is always a pearl or even a diamond - regardless of the decade of production.

    I've had several Darts and B & E body Mopars, my first car being a 66' Dart. I wanted a 67 - 69 but couldn't afford one but found the 66'. It was wrecked but only cost me $75 back in 77'. fast forward and 5 Mopars later I just picked up a 69' with a running 440 with a lot of good upgrades. Can't wait to put it back on the road and cruise my local car scene.

      I bought one in 2004 when I came back from Iraq for $1200, mine had a 318 also but it was a 4 door though but I didn't mind. I just wanted something to ticker on and take the wife and kids to cruises and car shows on the weekend. it was green on green on green. It was in phenomial shape when I bought it I didn't have to much to it. cleaned and rebuilt the carb and basically cleaned it up, painted everything that was supposed to be black black again repainted the block corporate blue, and the intake and valve covers silver and of course new gaskets all around. It was a great little car, I even took it to San Antonio from Central Missouri for a Army leadership course, AM radio only on the way down but I fixed that quickly while I was in San Antonio, went bought a cheap little AM/FM Radio and cd player while I was there because just having an Am radio I didn't get a damn thing on the radio for most of the drive and 14 hours in almost complete silence sucked. Got divorced in 2007 but I kept that car until 2014 because I loved it so much.

      @TheREALOC1972 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First off it's Disc Brakes... and 2nd, not right off the flip when your doing a budget daily driver, Disc Brakes is literally very very very low on the "must do" list because the drum brakes still work. You gotta get the car running and driving long before you do a disc brake conversion. It needed alot of engine work, new fluids, new gaskets, a completely new fuel system and brakes that work, it also needed cleaned up and will need a paint job LONG before it needs disc brakes. Disc brakes is an "upgrade" and not something that is needed right off the bat when you can use that 2-3 grand on other things.
