I just had my first piece of (canned) jackfruit and it’s amazing. It tastes like a mango/pineapple/lychee/banana all in one. It’s what you would imagine “tutti-frutti” to taste like, but it’s a real fruit.

I've had fresh jackfruit from the grocery store when I decided to buy it on a whim. They were sold in thin disks by the pound so much cheaper that way. I loved it! To me it tastes a bit like if you combined a banana and a pineapple but without the acidity of the pineapple. I am addicted to them and could eat them all day. However, my roommate hated it (more for me). I could just eat them all day and they are pretty high in protein for being a fruit which is one of the reasons why it is often used as a mock-meat, beside the fact that it looks like shredded chicken.

I bought a Jackfruit at the local Mexican food market. I used this and many other fruits and vegetables for shooting targets. I was curious just what this weird fruit was, and a webpage talked about how sweet it was. It was such a weird thing to shoot, but I had determined that I would at least taste it after I split it open with a shot. After we shot it open, we then went to get a taste. When we got there we were overwhelmed with how sweet it smelled, the the taste was so surprising! I finally determined what combination of flavors I was tasting, pineapple and honeydew melon. We would not shoot again , we collected up what was left to take it home to eat. Our curiosity led us to try something so foreign to us, but we’re rewarded with a very surprising treat. I will buy it again, but not to shoot.

I think I will cook it in a crockpot with pinto beans, lilikoi(passion fruit), papaya, sweet peppers, bananas/plantains, some juiced oranges, liquid mesquite smoke, and either some special vinegar or some poi for sour flavor.

Nice video. I didn't know it comes in a can. We eat Jackfruit Crabless Crabcakes which we love. I season them with Old Bay Seasoning and a little Smart Balance and bake or broil. Then top with Vegenaise Tartar Sauce. I plan to buy a bag of frozen Jackfruit that I saw at MOMS Organic Market, to use in place of pork, to make some pulled pork. I heard it's best to use when it's ripened only a little for pulled pork, crabcakes, and other types of meat substitutes. Since I love eating fresh fruit, I will have to try it uncooked. Thank you for your informative video. God Bless!

Great introduction to a food that I have never been exposed to, being from Oklahoma. I've heard that this can be used as a meat substitute. So I've been looking into trying it. Bought some in a can yesterday at the local Asian market/grocery store. The "in syrup" annoys me, since I don't do sugar, but I figure I can rinse it off and just deal with the sugar content of the fruit. In any case, thanks for the rundown on the subject. Great presentation and detail on the breakdown and all the parts.

To make vegan meat with it you do not want to use the one in syrup. That one is the ripe, sweet jackfruit and is meant to be enjoyed right from the can as a sweet treat. You want to use the young jackfruit in brine. They are often on the shelf right next to eachother. Hope that helps 👍

Jackfruit (fresh produce section) was on sale at my Albertson's grocery store, it looked so bizarre (which is another way of saying unknown\different). You really come across as credibly enjoying this and authentically excited to share your experience! I loved your comprehensively formatted video (i.e., showing how to choose a ripe one, cut it, what to discard, alternative use of seeds (will try boiling) and the canned choice (which I'm happy to see Trader Joe's and Whole Foods say they have it). The Comments also, make me so excited to experience this. I am empowered/encourage to adventurously try it both ways (fresh and canned)! There is so much around us, available in this world, and we don't even know it (65 years of life and still amazed).

Mexican General Santa Ana, after Winning the Alamo, and after being defeated by Sam Houston and spending a few years in a jail cage,, became a New York notoriety. At one party he was telling a gentlemen that his men could march all day by just chewing on a sap from a tree. The man he told that to,, was a guy named William Wrigley and the rest is history. And now we know how he flavored it??

Thank you for your video! After watching it, I went to my local Whole Foods store and bought a piece...about a quarter of a jack fruit. Mine had a lot of flavorless "meat" in between the orangy fleshy seed pods. But, wow...the orange seed pods are incredibly delicious! Not overly sweet, just perfect with an exotic flavor...
Would highly recommend to those with adventurous taste buds.

Need to dip hands and knife in oil because the sticky is very hard to get off...it's like sap almost that bad. Jackfruit is not that sweet. Nothing like an orange or grapes. It's great to use as a meat substitute!! Flavor it up like meat and it's a great stringy meat.

I am glad you posted a video on the jack fruit. The piece you bought looked dry and withered, the canned ones look fresh.
Do you know, unripe jackfruit which we cook and eat with fish curry is a diabetic friendly meal because of the high fibre content?
    Seeds too.
There is a website named jackfruit365.com
Tender fruit is used as a vegetable and is also good for diabetics as everything excluding the green skin and the central pith is cooked. And the result is delicious .
