  • If you don't pick the Jackfruit at the right time then the arils on the inside will not have formed correctly and their flavour will not have developed. There are 2 types of Jackfruit, Soft and Crisp we discuss the difference. Knowing which parts to separate and how to take out the seed in preparation for either drying or freezing so that you can consume them later is a job that you get better with practice. Pauline and Kath from Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery are great at this job and show you what you need to look out for to get the job done.
    the Soft Jackfruit Fruit Trees are for sale at Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery and you can buy Jackfruit Trees here:

    Here in the philippines, we let the fruit rippen on the tree. You can smell the beautiful aroma when its ripe

      I live in the US. Our Costco had Jack fruit for sale. I had never seen it before and bought it out of curiosity.
      Now I am not sure about it. It is not soft yet but has a small spot of mold on the skin (aroles?).

    Recently started selling jackfruit at my work. It's been going great so far. People seem to love it once they've had it. It's a unique fruit that I'm glad we get to share with people.

    Do you have a video or can you recommend a good one about the different varieties of jackfruit?
    The kind I buy here in Florida (asian markets and wholefoods) are 15-25 lbs and perfectly oblong in shape.
    When I let them ripen to soft spots there’s absolutely no sticky latex. They are super flavorful and sometimes chewy(not squishy like the one in your video) I am not sure of the variety.

      Try the Magnolia Or Eviarc Variety The Evairc has Way less Latex Ang Very Sweet it's the Sweetest Jackfruit Variety from the Philippines..

    Does the latex stick to the fruit pods? How do you clean them before eating them?

    • @albaalba4437
      @albaalba4437 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. But be sure to use latex gloves or if you're going to handle it with your bare hands be sure to dab a drop of cooking oil to your palms it will minimize the latex from sticking too much.. You can wash the arils with running water for secs and drain them.

  • @mamasaidsew4843
    @mamasaidsew4843 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Does this mean people allergic to latex should not eat jackfruit? Please someone answer as I'd like to try this but my sons are allergic to latex.

    • @maryderosas84
      @maryderosas84 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm allergic to la latex, and the first time I ate jackfruit, I got a little itchy and rash, but my hands suffered the most because I didn't use glove, now I use oil in my hands and took benadryl before eating them, so I just got rash in my hands but no like the first time (I don't use gloves, because is to hard to work with them)

    • @kellytsai3
      @kellytsai3 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the latex is only in the white stringy bits, not the yellow fruit.

    Hi, I have a jackfruit growing from seed it has a small stem with a tiny leaf starting to grow. when is it a good time to start fertilizing it?.....Love your videos!

    • @amilom007
      @amilom007 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rosemary Maciel
      no don't fertilize it now, let it grow slow one foot or more, use organic fertilizer and don't water too much, beware chemical fertilizer can burn your plant and over watering can cause roots rot and kill it.

    would it be better to leave the fruit on the tree and waiting until it smells sweet before harvesting it instead of harvesting it earlier and setting it aside for a week or more to fully ripen?

    I got delivered all the jackfruit that I can't leave it long to be ripened. It got ruined very fast when it just becomes to be soft.
    I have to open it when it's still hard and green, therefore, it's hard to be preserved. Or i have to eat the whole 35 lbs in a few days.
    Dilemma!

    This soft kind is easy to be open and stored in the fridge and eaten right after you take it out.
