i was thinking, "If this bloke carries on the way he's started this vid, he's so annoying that I doubt I'll be able to watch it all the way to the end just once, let alone 2 or 3 times, ffs!" & i was right :-D
Haha Exactly, And just do not bid for example $201, someone else knows the trick so you have to bid $201.5, I have won several auctions with that $0.5 lol
If your internet is slow, ignore the 2 second recommendation and snipe a few seconds earlier. Remember, ebay won't receive your bid as quickly in this case...
I agree with you on almost everything just not on the part when you snipe at the last 2 seconds. If there are many bidders and you're placing your bid at last 5 seconds ebay wont register your bid, it happened to me and I have a great internet connection. I have a great success at last 12 seconds but would go also for 8 sec for a still "comfortable zone" for sniping. At the last 10 seconds there is practically no room to place a bid 2 times you just got one good shot... and I hate when I see people max bidding on an item that has 8 bidding days left!!!
12-10 seconds is waay too much time. I’ve been outbid under the 10 second mark. 5 or less. Honestly 2 seconds is risky if you have a bad internet connection, but it’s your best bet.
My mom used to do eBay back in the early 2000s and taught me these exact tricks! I’ve finally gotten into eBays luxury market myself and have found some incredible finds! All in this week I found a $1800 LV bag for $215 and $1000 LV boots for $32!! I was SHAKING I’m so addicted lol
I tried that and lost. I like his idea. I get so nervous, though. I mean, my hands are shaking, my heart is pounding, my head is burning. I'd like to go for the proxy bid.
Dude I was three days strong for a cheap item and rare Too. Someone for 20 hours left had just outbid me and I had to increase. Wish I knew these tips first!
Hey Max, just wanted to say thanks! I literally followed your instructions on a high ticket item that exploded with bids in the last 15 seconds or so (I don't use eBay for auctions EVER, only Buy it Now), and I waited until the magic 2 seconds and won the bid. Would never have gotten it, and, yes, in my opinion got a pretty great deal. Despite your video being 5 years old, it helped me obtain an amazing collectors item for hundreds of dollars less than the Buy it Now comparables. Cheers!
Congrats! I am going for an item tomorrow! If you don’t mind me asking, how much did you do your max bid for and how much did you actually have to pay for the item? For example I’m willing to pay 500 for this item but if the last bid is only 400 I’ll only have to pay closer to 400 right?
@@its_ohhrite Yes you are correct. I was prepared to pay 450 when the max last bid was 220. 20 seconds before the end of the auction it exploded with bidders, but I waited, put in 450 and it sold for 405. So max bid before me was likely 400 or so. Best of luck with it
That's exactly what I've been telling all my relatives and friends for years. Learn how eBay bidding works (exactly how you said in the video) and never bid early because you just raise the price for yourself.
Your instructions are super clear! I've never placed a bid on Ebay ever and I did exactly what you said to do and I won the auction! My heart was pounding and now I'm so excited! Thanks for this video :)
_Every time it starts getting down to 2 minutes your heart starts racing & adrenaline starts pumping lol it’s literally just like a stand off with sniper rifles except it’s with money lol_ 💸💥🔫
another tip is never use a round number EG... just go over your max price like $201.50 just because someone may have just bid $200 max bid before you so if you add an extra $1 you would get it
Thanks for the video Maxx! I had no idea that you do not pay the full price in your 200$ scenario but rather a small percentage above the previous bid. Very useful video, thanks again.
I am *so* getting my daughters most desired Disney movie tomorrow now. I kinda came up with the idea when I saw the countdown to wait until the end, looked it up, and heard about "sniping". Now I'm a sniping mom. Badass. This does sound really fun to do though. Some mom in mid Western America has no idea I'm coming for her one bid 😈 wish me luck.
I totally won btw 😁 thanks!!! Someone had a bid on it days away, then someone came in ten mins away, but guess who won? Me, pressing the final accept button (thanks for confirmation page tip) at ten seconds to go, and good thing, because there was actually a couple seconds less by my math when the page reloaded. Only took 2 seconds but said 4 seconds left and no one could react. 😈😈😈 Sorry other moms, but my daughter has been asking to see frozen for months now and I wanted the collector's edition! (Got the DVD/Blu Ray AND digital for $7!) It's $25 everywhere else. $19.99 for DVD alone. Also.. Who cares if you're long winded, so am I.
Cool, thanks. Should we 'Add to Wishlist' or that'll just make others more on edge if they know another is watching? Or we should 'Add to Wishlist' so it's like a surprise attack but then we might forget it coz' of the goings on in a day, including other transaction still going on. How fast should the internet be and how much lag minimum in ms for two seconds to work? God bless.
I'm amazed that these common sense tips actually required a video explaining this. Even half my life ago as a teen when I opened my ebay account, I figured this stuff out immediately. I still see people getting into bidding wars with four days out as if they're doing something intelligent and prudent rather than raising the auction by $60. Muppets everywhere.
Watched your video, after losing an auction, last week, by $5. I was winning up until the last seconds. This week, watched an item I really wanted, held out until the last three seconds (I was connected to an unfamiliar internet source) and hit button, with a bid $80 over the present bid and won, by $15, which was $60 below my bid. Thanks for the advice, it works!
Always remember to add the shipping in your max bid, And some auctions have at least a $.50 min raise. I love the expressions I get when I go to estate auctions when I wait for the Going Once, GoingTwice and Me after two people haggle back and forth 20 times!! LOL
Thank you for this explanation. It really gave me insight of how Ebay auctions work :) I watched a video of a guy trying to buy something and it was $295. Then I saw him bid $325 and he won, but it showed that he didn't have to pay $325 but instead $295. I was super confused but again, this video helped alot. Thank you again
I never lose. If I want it, I want it. There's no max bid for me. I wait until the last 10 seconds, bump my bid up to 3x's what the current bid is and hit CONFIRM with 3 seconds left. Never fails.
Holy cow, this worked! I tried this and I finally won my first eBay bid. However, I did go over my maximum acceptable bid by $10 because my original max was automatically outbid with 30 seconds to go. Thanks for the tips.
This is why I dont put my watches in low starting auction anymore. Everyone gets really saby with this videos and selling in auction is no longer fair for sellers. Now I just put a high starting bid. If someone wants to start at that price I can sell. If not, Ill just keep my watch.
I just started buying on EBay. This is what I do and have been fairly successful, and yes when the item goes above what I’m willing to yI just tell myself “I missed out and I”ll gat it next time”.
why didnt you just say wait till 30 secs put in full max bid then wait until 2 secs and click confirm. you spent 8 mins waffling about crap. good job !
@@richdiorio9984 it drives the price up. When another buyer bids say $100 after you bid your $200, they'll get a notification saying they've been outbid by you, causing them to potentially place a higher bid. Let's say they place $130 as their second bid. They'll get another notification saying they've been outbid by you. Then another bidder comes along and does the same thing, etc.. Okay now let's say that the same exact situation happens BUT you bid $200 12 seconds before the auction finishes. You bid the $200, then the other bidder bids their $100 five seconds later.. then they'll see the same notification saying they've been outbid, and if they read that fast enough they might have enough time to bid the $130 but chances are low.. the chances of them bidding the $130 would be even lower if you bid at the last 2 seconds - they wouldn't physically have the time to place another bid - meaning you win the item for $100 instead of $130. So you 'save' $30! Hope that makes sense.
Disagree with one point you made, I always make sure to place an early bid (if there isn't a bid already on the item) this is because a number of times I've seen items get taken down from sale by the seller before the end of the autcion because they've not put a reserve on the item and are getting nervous that it may sell for peanuts OR a savvy buyer makes a cheeky offer to purchase the item, which the seller may accept if there's no bids on the item already. That initial bid is crucial to ensure the item remains in play until the auction ending.
EBAY tries to drive up the bidding price by encouraging people to put in their maximum bid early which starts an electronic bidding war with those who have done the same.
Thanks buddy! Using your EXACT technique... just got a vintage computer sound card (which I don't need although a spare is always welcome).. BUT.. I got the "breakout leads" that go with it which I was desperate for and which just cannot be found anywhere... together for around $10.00. I held my nerve - 3 seconds exactly!
I learned this from a friend before i even got an ebay account (back in 2001). Since then, I won pretty much all of the auction i've bid on. Usually people go with "round" numbers (like 100, 150, 200). Going just a few dollars above it usually helps to. So in this case i'd set my budget at $201 or something.
I watched this video with about 10 minutes left on the item I wanted to bid on, then immediately used the technique and won. Huzzah! Thanks, Mr. Lifestyle.
How do you know the fakes to stay away from? Possible video idea to make But really, how do i know? Alot of these say "Vintage" and that it has been serviced
Ok if you follow this exactly you are going to lose some auctions because the system sometimes takes more than 2 seconds to get your bid. It's definitely better to give yourself a few extra seconds, in case there is a delay. Besides that, the timer sometimes lags so when it says 2 seconds, the auction is actually over. I think 8-10 seconds is better, and 4-6 if you really want to take a chance.
Unfortunately, under the newest eBay User Agreement, Section 23, paragraph 4, it’s worse. eBay could hold use liable for $30 x $30 x $21, or $18,900. They are doing this as part of their campaign to aggressively go after people who snipe. Per eBay, sniping is a violation of both the UA and the Terms of Service since about 2005. Over the past number of years they’ve been really policing the site, removing counterfeit goods and the Sellers (who shut down and then try to set up with new name and proxy server showing different location and IP). They did this after complaints from Users and trademark lawsuits from legal design owners. Now they’re really trying to “level the playing field” by employing code that scans for the usual signs of sniping (no bid history on item, winning bid placed in last 5 seconds of auction, etc). They are focusing on users who snipe repeatedly, not just for an item every once in a while. Once their software identifies a suspect, another program scans that user’s purchase (bid) history for signs of repeated sniping. Under eBay’s UA and TOS, they can invalidate your winning bid(s), suspend your account for a period of time, or terminate your account. With the millions of users, they are going to be focusing on the big fish for a while. Individuals will likely get an email warning them of “suspicious” activity. So IMHO, I’d focus my snipes on bigger ticket items that I really want.
Sniping on eBay does not guarantee that you’re going to win the auction but it definitely guarantees that you are not one of the idiots responsible for driving the price up by bidding too early. Another good piece of advice: if you see something you like but there’s still some time left before the end of the auction, add it to your watch list. The seller knows who has added his items to their watch list and many times he will send you a special offer or discount.
I always place the first bid. Because sellers can change the ad up to the time the item has a bid. Then I don't bid again until the very last second. And I always win... But I only snipe when I am willing to put in a crazy high bid. Rarely does the price go as high As I am willing to pay... I snipe on rare items...
Yeah. after all that, you mention the sites that bid for you right at the end. When you could save $100 the cost is so little, I would go with the snipe site, it takes all the stress out of it for you.
OMG....ty ty ty! I just won this awesome bundle for 57 bucks for my surface 3 accessories ALL because of that final tip about max bidding. I thought you had to pay the max bid you put. When you explained how you didn't necesarily, the rest was in the bag. Holy shit I'm so happy right now. I saved like 200 bucks.
back in the day when Ebay first started.. you could bid $1,000,000 at the last minute, but the bid will only go up by the next available bid..so you didn't have to pay 1millions dollars, but you will win every time.. now they fixed it and you can't really do that.
My favorite technique besides this one, Look for listed items that have no one watching them (for whatever reason) and are sitting. If they send you and offer that’s a decent cut you should counter that with like 20% less. Work your way to the middle in a back and fourth. BUT if they have an offer option. Always go based on the perceived desperation. If it’s high and the listing is dead you can go as low as %50 and they will take it more times than you think.
Thanks. Your video confirmed that I have been generally doing Ebay snipes properly. However, I did learn one thing, and that is to wait until 2 seconds left. I have generally been waiting until under about 8 seconds. The reason I don't wait until 2 seconds, is that I have lost items because my internet connection took longer than 2 seconds to send out my bid. So in the future, I think I will split the difference and aim for about 5 seconds. Good point about establishing your maximum. Early on in my Ebay sniping, I lost several items because I didn't accurately set my max. About sniping: Some people think sniping is dishonest. After losing a number of items due to sniping, I now think sniping is just part of the game. I sort of miss sniping, because I now make use of Gixen most of the time, which does the sniping for me. It is cheap enough, that I don't even think about paying its cost. I think, though, I will start occasionally sniping on Ebay, because it is really fun. One thing I would recommend is refreshing the window you are watching the item in periodically, especially at about 1 minute to go. I have seen the window's time being several seconds off the actual correct time. Another thing I would recommend is not adding the item to your watch list. It is posted on the item's webpage how many people are watching it, and I don't really want others to know how many people are watching the item. A large number shown watching it may drive up the max bids for some of the other watchers. I generally haven't sniped expensive items on Ebay. I usually only bid on railroad lanterns, Official Guides of the Railways, and model railroad equipment. I think the highest max I ever bid was about $135.00 (just a month ago), because I had lost the bidding on possibly the same exact item about a year before which sold for about $125.00. So the second time, I made sure of what I was comfortable with for my max, set that amount in Gixen, and ended up winning the item for about $30.00. I thought about removing my recommendations, as they could conceivably hurt my own sniping, but I am a teacher at heart, so I left them in there. But let it be known, I have a couple of things I do when sniping that will remain a trade secret.
What is the point of waiting until 2 seconds left? The purpose of bidding the last moment is to prevent the item from gaining attention from other bidders. But when it comes to the last minute, it doesn't matter. If you already set your bidding limit, that will not change whether you place the bid 30 seconds or 5 seconds before the deadline. Even if someone else places a bid 1 second after you, ebay will still uphold the highest bidder via autobidding. Waiting until 2 seconds left just put yourself at risk for internet latency issues.
turity that's not true. If you bid within one min or even 30 seconds your max bid someone else might see that and have enough time to decide they think the item is worth more than that and pay more. If you wait to the last 2 seconds you give that bidder very little time to think if at all so if their max bid was 180 orginally and yours was 200 you put 200 in with 2 sec left and they just put in 180 giving them no time to rethink and submit a counter offer.
I know this is an old video but I just watched it in used your method almost immediately after and won a watch right away. Good job thank you this is actually my very 1st eBay win.
Thank you for your precise instructions! I won myself a very lovely and a rare (here in Finland) item for a mere 1/4th of it's price! Thank you so much! Subscribed to you as a reward. ^_^
Thanks for such useful tips! The only one I disagree with is…. The picking a weird time tip would really only work if the auction only included people that are roughly in the same area of the country or world. Any auction that happens to be international or pretty much any other auction at all unless the only people bidding on that item are within a few states of each other, this tip doesn’t really apply because of time differences. But I do get what you’re saying and I’ve actually tried doing that too a few times until I realized the whole time difference thing.
You better have a great internet connection/super fast. I’d be mad if I confirmed & my internet stalled lol...like I’m commenting on this video on my phone right now & it said “request timed out” DAMNIT!
For high priced items, sniping at the last seconds is advisable. For very cheap items that sell for under $5, sniping will actually cause you to pay more. Sniping causes you to focus on only a few items, it costs you money to focus on an Ebay listing versus living your private life, and you end up not searching for other, similar items that you could have bought and bid on for less money. I never advise sniping for items of low $ value. Only high $ value items.

seller placing a bidding step of his choice like 0.1$/1$/10$ etc. Ebay trying to be in the side of the buyer allow you to pay a step over the last bigger bidder. So lets say this. A watch has starting point of 50$, with bid step of 10$. If a person (call him A) place a bid for 100$ the item's price will go to 60$ because this is the step and no one else is bidding atm. Now lets say a second person appears(call him B) and place the bid of 300£. Then the item's price is raised to 110$. And person B is winning at the moment. Now lets say a third person watch the item and is interesting (call him C). C is bidding for 250$. At that point items price goes straight to 260$ and B is still winning (because it bid 300$). If no one else bid at that point and the auction is end. The item is sold to B for 260$.
@@bluebomber875 lol I know, but most people used those back in the day. Even early 2009, IDK if there allowed anymore or not. I guess they are, but lately, due to laziness I've been just using the method eBay recommends and I have been winning a lot more auctions. Back in 2009-2014, I lost like 85% of auctions before I started using the eBay sniping apps.
Thanks for this, just bought a 1k Indie film camera for $490. I was skeptical at first about your advice, but it was 100 leggit. I bid 548 but only had to pay $490
If you don't pay your max bid amount then why don't you just for example: on a 100$ item bid 800$ I doubt there's anyone that's willing to pay that much for a 100$ item so you win and only pay the small percentage higher than the person under you bid???
Mike Osorio because if the item is only worth $100 and some idiot comes along and thinks it's worths $400 and does what you did and bids $400 then you just wons something worth $100 for $405.
Did you pay attention? He said to put in a price that you are WILLING to pay. I doubt anyone is willing to pay 20k for an item that's worth $100 so why place a bid that high?
I have been using this technique without evening knowing it. Just bought two iPhone 5’s for $15 AUS. Both work one is just cracked. So I’d give this a go. It’s worked for me for the past few years.
Maybe you can make another follow-up video to this follow-up video on this, but I was wondering how you decide what things you'd buy used and what you'd absolutely want new?
The reason a lot of people tend to make a bid a couple days early is to prevent other buyers to use the Buy It Now button, as soon as You make a bid, the Buy It Now disappears and nobody could buy the item despite seller added that option! I usually do this myself and I have good success rate, unless seller has put on a reserve price on the bid which is another story altogether!
+Sam Ismail You will pay only a fraction more than the highest bid placed by someone else. So if someone put 120 as their maximum, you'll end up paying only $121 or something like that. If you put 200 and someone put 250 as their maximum, they'll pay $201. It all depends on the iteration of the auction (in some cases it's $1, in some it's $5).
You lock in the low starting bid. You watch the other bidders information to see if there is any shilling going on. If you see shilling or suspect it then do not continue to bid. Wait and see if it stops then snipe it if you can. I just won an item because the other bidder backed out and I insisted that my last bid (Not My Highest Bid) be accepted or No Deal! The seller agreed and I won the item for $2.00 more than the starting bid. BOOYA!
Thanks for the tips although I have been following them more or less for the last twenty years. One tip that I have found helpful is to bid at the last 2 seconds a bid of say $200.13. On a number of occasions I have been the winning bidder by just a few cents.
Hey Maxx, thanks, this was very informative. Learnt a new Ebay term...snipe. What confuses me sometimes is seeing a bid and under it says "reserve not met"; what would you do in that situation?
This video helped a lot. I found an item starting at $150 that goes for $400 brand new. I won for $160.50 It was an airsoft sniper. I was sniping for a sniper.
So to get this straight. When you put in your maximum bid, a confirmation tab opens up, asking you, do you want to spend X amount? Plz reply ASAP, there’s something is want to get in 23 hrs at a cheap price!

another tip is never use a round number EG... just go over your max price like $201.50 just because someone may have just bid $200 max bid before you so if you add an extra $1 you would get it
Thanks for the video Maxx!

Thanks for the advice, it works!
killer advice. thanks. been doing this for years... but I never knew the 2 second rule. that's awesome
I followed your instructions and won my first ever auction (4 bidders in all). Thank you!
It really gave me insight of how Ebay auctions work :)
I watched a video of a guy trying to buy something and it was $295.
This is what I do and have been fairly successful, and yes when the item goes above what I’m willing to yI just tell myself “I missed out and I”ll gat it next time”.
why didnt you just say wait till 30 secs put in full max bid then wait until 2 secs and click confirm. you spent 8 mins waffling about crap. good job !
I'm no Ebay expert but what is the difference between putting the $200 bid in 2 days before it ends instead of 12 seconds?
I couldn't agree more. Thanks for sharing!
This is great. Thank you for cutting right to the chase with effective information and no annoying content. Happy to subscribe to your channel 🙏🏽👌
EBAY tries to drive up the bidding price by encouraging people to put in their maximum bid early which starts an electronic bidding war with those who have done the same.

Easily the best EBay guide on TH-cam!
+Boris&Alexis: now u r really giving the game away! BOO, HISS!
Man Maxx this way of bidding really works. I won every time. I put up two split screens and Monitor the bids. Thanks a lot 👍🏾
Wifi lagged. Bid at -7 seconds
I watched this video with about 10 minutes left on the item I wanted to bid on, then immediately used the technique and won. Huzzah! Thanks, Mr. Lifestyle.
How do you know the fakes to stay away from? Possible video idea to make
But really, how do i know? Alot of these say "Vintage" and that it has been serviced
Ok if you follow this exactly you are going to lose some auctions because the system sometimes takes more than 2 seconds to get your bid. It's definitely better to give yourself a few extra seconds, in case there is a delay. Besides that, the timer sometimes lags so when it says 2 seconds, the auction is actually over. I think 8-10 seconds is better, and 4-6 if you really want to take a chance.
I put 30.00 as my max bid but I'm still in the lead with 21.00. is eBay going to make me pay 21 or 30?
clorox bleach 21
It's not that difficult: eBay will make you pay 21 x 30 = 630.

How can people really not understand how this works??
Sniping on eBay does not guarantee that you’re going to win the auction but it definitely guarantees that you are not one of the idiots responsible for driving the price up by bidding too early. Another good piece of advice: if you see something you like but there’s still some time left before the end of the auction, add it to your watch list. The seller knows who has added his items to their watch list and many times he will send you a special offer or discount.
Always have multiple items of what you want in your watchlist.
HOODofSHADOWS True thats what doing i want a iphone5 for cheap
yeah, and if they finish say 1 every few minutes, have multiple tabs open with "Confirm" buttons waiting to go
I always place the first bid.
When you could save $100 the cost is so little, I would go with the snipe site, it takes all the stress out of it for you.
he said you dont spend all of the 200
This feels like a very competitive game than a purchase....AND I LOVE IT 🤩
Thanks. Screenshots of the process would've made this even better!

I saved like 200 bucks.
back in the day when Ebay first started.. you could bid $1,000,000 at the last minute, but the bid will only go up by the next available bid..so you didn't have to pay 1millions dollars, but you will win every time.. now they fixed it and you can't really do that.
ur talkin outta ur hole lolololol!
My favorite technique besides this one,
Look for listed items that have no one watching them (for whatever reason) and are sitting. If they send you and offer that’s a decent cut you should counter that with like 20% less. Work your way to the middle in a back and fourth. BUT if they have an offer option. Always go based on the perceived desperation. If it’s high and the listing is dead you can go as low as %50 and they will take it more times than you think.
I never wait till last 2 seconds, couse my old ass phone need like 5 seconds to only process it
Use the app it doesn't lag. I snipe at 5 secs. By the time the notifications go through there isn't enough time for a counter bid.
Noob
turity that's not true.
@@joeyisabsb1 people can't see your max bid. They only see what Ebay automatically bids for you.
Only high $ value items.
whoops I already bid!

What about an item that has no bids on? Would it be okay to bid on something like that just p to keep the seller from removing the post?
i dont get it. so if i bid 200 to beat out the highest bid of 110 why wouldnt i be charged 200?
Dylan Labadie same here thats what i dont get.
seller placing a bidding step of his choice like 0.1$/1$/10$ etc.
Giannis Tsoupakis Thank you very much for the clarification.

The max bid is a good tip I didn't know that! I always thought it meant that was the amount I'd pay.
cant you just use a sniping computer program to do all of this?? i thought that was the norm, it was at least back in the day ( 2-5 years ago )

@@bluebomber875 lol I know, but most people used those back in the day. Even early 2009, IDK if there allowed anymore or not. If you don't pay your max bid amount then why don't you just for example: on a 100$ item bid 800$ I doubt there's anyone that's willing to pay that much for a 100$ item so you win and only pay the small percentage higher than the person under you bid???
+Mike Osorio I have the same exact question. Maxx fashion can you answer this?
Mike Osorio because if the item is only worth $100 and some idiot comes along and thinks it's worths $400 and does what you did and bids $400 then you just wons something worth $100 for $405.
What if 2 momo's did ths same thing then you could pay 20k for a $100 item.

I done this sniping technique buying shoes and it works 100% 😂 I pissed off a lot of bidders
That means they just want a bidding war 💀

Do you use eBay for things besides watches? And what kind of wallet do you have?
So if the bid is at 80 and I wait until 2 seconds left to put in 200 and win the bid what do I end up paying?
+Sam Ismail if no one else bids then u pay like 82.50 or 85
Yeah I'm confused about that too like yeah I get that you won't pay the whole amount but like I didn't know you wouldn't have to pay that amount idk

Wait and see if it stops then snipe it if you can. I just won an item because the other bidder backed out and I insisted that my last bid (Not My Highest Bid) be accepted or No Deal!
