I’m so thankful for people like you who appreciate all the creative quilt work that the lady had done and also the charm of all those old handkerchiefs. You saved all those items from oblivion, or the cloth shredders that would destroy their beauty. Thank you George ❤
Sometimes the reason for the newspaper on the back of a quilt is because the blocks were pieced by sewing onto paper. When the quilt top is done, the paper can be removed and then quilted in the usual manner.
Our little Pastor lady at church taught us to sew quilts with newspaper backing and she called them strip quilts. Helped to stabilize tiny pieces while quilting the tops! It was an old trick im so glad to have learned! She taught us to quilt by hand too and sit around a quilt and work on it together! Like going back in time. Miss her 😢
Now you cant make a living doing this but you can make some great finds and if you are willing to invest you can make a fait profit. I list things on craigslist & have had very good luck on bith ends. At any given time I have 5-10 items listed. i am sello=ing stuff for a rich customer as well. She is loaded with high end stuff!
Glad to see the children's sewing machines. Just got my mother's in 2022 after she died at age 94. She wouldn't ever let me play with it in my childhood. 😂
I collect hangers too!! It started when I moved here 10+ years ago … our first home was on Bainbridge Island in an old Pan Adobe home built in the 1970’s by a retired Merchant Marine… I found several old wooden hangers in the home… and have been collecting them ever since!! Interesting story… as he was finishing the home for him and his lady friend … she left him for another man and he vowed to never live in the home … so he didn’t!! Lived in a small travel trailer on the property… so we were the first ones to ever live there … moved here in 2013… you could tell it was built by someone of the “greatest generation” from his attention to detail… loved living there!!
Wow, what an interesting and sad story, but great that you got to be first in the house! Bainbridge was so different then, you could live in a bus and build a house without oversight (a lot of hippies did that in the 1970s there). I keep adding to my hanger collection!
I never comment, just wanted you to know how much I enjoy your videos. You give so much information about everything. Just so wonderful. I never miss a video. Thank you.
Worked for the top antique guy in Indianapolis and we regularly went in the back door before the general public was let in, the theft that happens while people are grieving and in a hurry is horrible
Oh, you passed up the blue Tammy doll case! (at 15:00) If it has Tammy inside and some clothes, that is sellable. I had a Tammy doll when I was a kid. She was cheaper than Barbie, but the same idea. I would love to have one again and I bet there are other women who would too.
I collect EAPG, in part because of you George. I would kill to find prices like that. Online resellers and antique stores think it’s worth much more than that!
I had an amish grandma and she made quilts. The pattern was simple but I loved going into ber sewing room. I've never made a quilt but i can embroidery very well. Those are cute patterns. As for the limoge, I absolutely love it. I cannot see why no one would not love it but that's just me.
Yay for 1/2 price day! My teddy bears always had a nice wardrobe courtesy of my child-sized sewing machine. I’m crafty still and would have loved to shop this sale.
Newspaper, or paper in general, in quilts was a thing. Batting or wadding was not always available and paper stuffing quilts was another insulating material used. Looks like here it may have been used as a stabilizer, which is a sewing trick still used today.
George, you had a piece of flint glass in your hands. After you showed the Limoge banded set you picked up a small clear dish. That dish is a piece of flint glass in the Roman Rosette pattern ca 1830! It will ring like a bell when you ping it!
Fyi George, there are quilters, seamstresses that would live ratty old quilts to cut up and restyle. I would definitely buy cutter quilts at 15 bucks!!
I am so jealous of your opportunities to buy quilts, hankies and sewing machines. I have a few toy sewing machines, but none as old as the ones you got! All of the sewing items, buttons, buckles, and I am sure there was more. Wow! And, as another commenter said, the damaged ones are worth the $15, too.
Hey George. Those children's sewing machines were nice. That would be a fantastic way to get an instant collection of them. I've always liked those. I spotted a few doilies along the way. Those would've probably had to come with me. The Limoges was really pretty. It would be a good time to get really good porcelain, since the price is down on it. There were a lot of quilts there, and they were pretty ones. I love to go through all of the handkerchiefs you got. I like the Victorian ones. Loved that 1910 sofa. I have a small gem collection. That book was interesting. That looked like a super-nice sale. Thanks for taking us along!
Loved that sweet pink quilt. Its sad that young ones now a days dont play with dolls anymore, they are all playing games on their phones and Ipads😢. This was an enormous amount of dolls and doll clothes. It was fun to watch!
Woot! What a fun sale, with sooo much stuff. I am the person who would have scooped up ALL the eapg. I like it, and I'm just gobsmacked by how old it is. In 1890 I imagine my family shared a tin cup!
So much fun shopping with you and learned so much. I collect "American" Fostoria and can't remember why I started. Unlike many I like clear. It's so pretty with light bouncing off the cuts and displayed on mirror. I do pick up the more rare and occasional piece of colored. Love the quilts, tops and a nut for antique hankies. Never new they were backed with newspaper. What a treasure trove of needlework and sewing patterns. Thanks for sharing and speaking of which, I need to visit your dentist😁Blessings, George Cat
This made me think of my grandparents. They moved from Minnesota to Hollywood, FL, when my dad was 10, so 1947. I loved the linens, hankies, quilts, dolls, and children's sewing machines. My grandmother taught me to embroidery with the iron on patterns. Would have loved having those.
I would of loved to buy all those quults and quilt tops. And some of the other linen as well. Along with the children sewing machines. Sewing machines, anything sewing, as well as some of the china, crytal, and glass
Love your videos. You are so knowledgeable it’s a treat. Great sale! You rarely see resellers/youtubers that are interested in patterns/fabrics/sewng etc. it’s wonderful to see it all! Thank you
Looks like you made out like a bandit on 1/2 price day. Its so fun listening to you identifying all the items ( good & bad, lol ). If you had the room, that Big blanket rack would have been nice to display all those quilt tops you've gotten. Catch Ya Later !! :~)
The price ($25) on the packages of buttons seemed high to me. I love the little sewing machines. The quilt with the newspaper backing is magnificent. It's so unique. Aren't the quilts with the individual's name embroidered called friendship quilts? I laughed so hard and so loud at your comment about the Clinton Esquire cover that I scared all four of my cats. That was totally unexpected. Thank you. 😂 I love the china, especially the pink pieces. How did you limit yourself? I think I could have spent every penny I have and still wanted more. Thank you for taking us with you to this outstanding sale.
lol, you make me laugh 😂. Hanging oven mitts on antlers , and someone else who likes dolls too 😂 Priceless . Fantastic finds . But estate sales usually have more desireable items .
I learned to embroider and sew at an early age from my great-grandmother! I tried quilting but decided that clothing was my thing! Great sale! I don't think I have ever seen one that large!
This makes me feel like what i collect is small. You can tell she enjoyed sewing and crafts. The amount of buttons. Great pieces picked up at this sale.🌼🌻
Wow, this was a great sale. I’m from Minnesota, and it was interesting to know that there is a Minnesota pattern of EAPG. I might need to buy a piece. I love vintage hankies too and usually buy them to resell
I also seen some Sergei Moss Ross when you picked up the Carnation cup and saucer. I have a friend that collects that pattern. Some beautiful things there. I would have bought some of the heat transfer patterns I like to do different stuff that way I don't get stuck in a rut. Have a great day and safe travels
Such beautiful dish sets. I can imagine how beautiful her table settings were and also her garden. So many clay pots! I'm glad you got those quilt tops. They can now go to a loving seamstress or collector. That pink quilt under all the dolls on the bed looked very cute. I don't know if colorful floral wallpaper is coming back, but I LOVE it!
That was a great sale George! I will tell you that embroidery is coming back!! Those linens and quilts were great. I wish I could have been there. Thanks for the show!!
You're welcome! "Vintage" is really dependent on the item and its category. Toys reach vintage status fast because people grow up, mom throws them out and then they start re-collecting them. On the other hand, ETSY says vintage is 20 years old, yet there are things that are 20 years old that are still in production. To me, 30-50 years is the cutoff.
I learned to embroider on old flour sacks. They became table runners, and I still have a couple I made. I also learned cut-work and crochet to make borders for the runners. We don’t get flour sacks anymore. Great estate sale house.🖤🇨🇦
I always learn something from you, my friend. I had never seen the quilts lined with newspaper. I wonder about the back story of that. Possibly a technique to utilize available resources in harder times?
Wow! How informative!! A wealth of knowledge, you are. This was super interesting to watch and learn, your upbeat attitude also made it quite relaxing. (Some resellers can be so anxious to get deals, the anxiety definitely transfers) But anyways, you’ve earned another sub! Looking forward to more videos 😃

That was how my Grandmother taught me to do it.🖤🇨🇦
Fans of George, let's Share his video with a friend or 2. Everyone will love him too .

I love going “shopping” with you George! Thank you for sharing of your knowledge with us!❤
My grandma was a quilter. I have never seen the newspaper backing. That is the most unique thing I have seen. Love it
Glad to see the children's sewing machines. Just got my mother's in 2022 after she died at age 94. She wouldn't ever let me play with it in my childhood. 😂

I’m 70. I embroider! Love the transfer patterns.
Gosh. This was great! I would love the kids' machines and quilt tops❤
Thank you George for being so generous with your knowledge! I have learned so much from you and it’s really a pleasure to shop along with you!
Yay for 1/2 price day! My teddy bears always had a nice wardrobe courtesy of my child-sized sewing machine. I’m crafty still and would have loved to shop this sale.
I would be in heaven all the flower pots
Embroidery is actually making a huge comeback
Congratulations on your quilt top haul! Those are great!

Absolutely love your unparalleled and extensive knowledge George. Quite honestly your videos never disappoint. Thanks for taking us along
Jeffery would have gladly taken most of the better rejected hankies !

Love the cheddar fabric quilt
Loved that sweet pink quilt. Its sad that young ones now a days dont play with dolls anymore, they are all playing games on their phones and Ipads😢. This was an enormous amount of dolls and doll clothes. It was fun to watch!
Excellent video! I enjoyed the suspense between the first day and your return on the last day.
Wow that was great loved it
“There’s someone who likes dolls too” 😂😂😂😂😂
And he liked dolls too !!!! What a hoot!!!😅
Best comment of the entire video! 😂
Woot! What a fun sale, with sooo much stuff. I am the person who would have scooped up ALL the eapg. I like it, and I'm just gobsmacked by how old it is. In 1890 I imagine my family shared a tin cup!
Those tall brass candle towers were right up my alley. I would be all over them
I’d love too start embroidering again! Me and sis embroidered Jean shirts in 1970’s. We were good!!
Sounds great!
I loved the …oh he liked dolls too !! Hahahaha
Wonderful sale! So many beautiful quilts! I loved the hankies… glad you were able to get several! Really neat child sewing machines!
What a great sale! Loved the felt , framed chicks! And so much more!
Thanks George
What a great estate sale!
I bet if u sold some of those children’s dresses online , you’d do ok!
Love estate sales. Need to go more often. Thanks, George.
Some of our quilts we had when I was a kid had newspaper backings.

Your awesome 🎉

Curiosity shop had an episode where he found a piece of flint glass. There's money in vintage dress patterns.
What a beautiful home this lady had. All the gorgeous quilts.
Looks like you made out like a bandit on 1/2 price day. Its so fun listening to you identifying all the items ( good & bad, lol ). If you had the room, that Big blanket rack would have been nice to display all those quilt tops you've gotten. Catch Ya Later !! :~)
Sounds like my kind of sale!
Oxyclean and gentle detergent in a good soak in bathtub should get that out. Gently squeeze and dry flat out of the sun.
Seahorse, love it. I have very few sea horses in my bathroom cause i can never find them. Thanks for taking us along with you 🙂
I enjoyed this so much! Love the interaction with you and your dad! I will be watching!
EAPG is Early American Pattern Glass!
Well, that was fun! Thanks! Love, love the quilt tops and hankies!
Hello from Mexico 👋
The price ($25) on the packages of buttons seemed high to me. I love the little sewing machines. The quilt with the newspaper backing is magnificent. It's so unique. Aren't the quilts with the individual's name embroidered called friendship quilts? I laughed so hard and so loud at your comment about the Clinton Esquire cover that I scared all four of my cats. Thank you for taking us with you to this outstanding sale.
I would buy all the Fiestaware 😮😮😮❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Those quilts, linens, hankies… I’d have been there all day! What a treasure of an estate sale, an owner after my own heart… except for the dolls…
lol, you make me laugh 😂. Hanging oven mitts on antlers , and someone else who likes dolls too 😂 Priceless .
Fantastic finds . But estate sales usually have more desireable items .
Oh wow George. I need thos christening gowns, BADDDDDD
Fun sale, glad you found some neat items 😊 😅
When i go to estate sales i try to get there extra early to get in before all the really good stuff is picked up
I dont know if ive ever seen you carry out so much from one place ! Cant wait to see how you do with the resell !
Wooden boxers of all sorts fly off my shelfs too 🤓
I listed 3 quilt tops from goodwill gone in 3 months 40-50$ each did not think they would sell
Oh, I get that amount pretty regularly! Quilters don't seem to mind finishing others' work
I learned to embroider and sew at an early age from my great-grandmother! I tried quilting but decided that clothing was my thing! Great sale! I don't think I have ever seen one that large!
Parts of South Tampa have some great old estates, especially in & around Palma Ceia. Just love all the quilt tops.
Priceless... there's someone who likes dolls, too.
Great that you found stuff on the last day!!
This makes me feel like what i collect is small. You can tell she enjoyed sewing and crafts. The amount of buttons. Great pieces picked up at this sale.🌼🌻
I’m 65 and I can do that embroidery , my aunt taught me!
Great video yet again George!❤
Wow, this was a great sale. I’m from Minnesota, and it was interesting to know that there is a Minnesota pattern of EAPG. I might need to buy a piece. I love vintage hankies too and usually buy them to resell
I also seen some Sergei Moss Ross when you picked up the Carnation cup and saucer. I have a friend that collects that pattern. Some beautiful things there. I would have bought some of the heat transfer patterns I like to do different stuff that way I don't get stuck in a rut. Have a great day and safe travels
The linens, buttons and handkerchiefs in that sale were wonderful to see, thanks for sharing this lovely sale with us!
Fantastic video!!!
I remember my mother buying a picnic basket back in the 60s just like the one you bought, she used her S&H green stamps.
“And he liked dolls, too” 😂
Wow what an amazing sale thank you for taking us along .❤
That was a fantastic sale. When I pass I hope people like you who appreciate my collections attend.
That was an amazing sale. Great information shared. Thanks!
Wow! I appreciate the quilt tops. The armless rocker caught my eye.
Cypress Gardens! Went there with my family when i was 11 or 12 years old
OMG..that sale❤❤❤❤
That was a great sale George!
I will tell you that embroidery is coming back!!
Those linens and quilts were great.
I wish I could have been there. Thanks for the show!!
I'm binge watching your videos. Really enjoying them 😊 the music made it hard to hear you at times tho.

Oh my goodness! Those quilt tops are breathtaking!
Great video and what great stuff!
I always learn something from you, my friend. I had never seen the quilts lined with newspaper. I wonder about the back story of that. Possibly a technique to utilize available resources in harder times?
I'm curious about that picnic basket! It's identical to the one I've loved and used for the last 50 years. Such a sturdy, practical, lovely old piece.
That was a fun sale. I always look for embroidery kits to resell. They sell well for me. Handkerchiefs too. I learn so much from you George. Thanks!
Super informative! ❤😊
I would have been so excited about that bag of buckles!
Wow! How informative!!
A wealth of knowledge, you are. This was super interesting to watch and learn, your upbeat attitude also made it quite relaxing. (Some resellers can be so anxious to get deals, the anxiety definitely transfers)
But anyways, you’ve earned another sub! Looking forward to more videos 😃
Wish I knew the stories behind the quilts.
