      @@ElevateYourselfOfficial I've made a similar comment on one of your previous videos. It does get frustrating as a viewer when you overlook details that are pretty obvious (i.e. who people are, what their motivations are, events of a previous episode). I can sympathize because you're also providing commentary. However, you clearly gloss over the dialogue frequently which I think results in lapses of understanding. Relying on your viewers to constantly correct you and provide clarification seems like a lazy way to generate engagement in your comments section. Please pay attention to the show.

    So I think you missed a little detail with Yamaguchi at the end. It wasn’t that he was having trouble resetting per say (like due to nerves or something) but that his reset point that he had been using since the previous day was suddenly obstructed by a flag/sign thing. Then he started panicking because he felt he couldn’t focus without being able to see that reset point and was trying to look for another one to use. So it’s not that he was panicking because he didn’t have a reset point at all but because he suddenly lost the one he was using.

    When he's saying he can't be as accurate as Kageyama he's more referring to this specific set. Kageyama has been doing this set for months now so he has plenty of experience setting the minus tempo and how to use it. This is Atsumu's first time trying something like this so he's obviously not going to be quite as accurate. It's honestly a real testament to Atsumu's raw skill and flexibility that he was able to pull something like this off mid-game when he only saw the hit once.

    A couple of tiny clarifications - the MB Hinata remembered is Matsukawa, another senior from Seijou, and Tadashi is Yamaguchi's first name! • @zak725
      @zak725 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Well while it is uncommon, I believe sometimes some upperclassman will also address you by your first name i.e. Noya calling Hinata “Shoyo” despite not being close friend. But yeah, Okinawa is definitely calling Kageyama “Tobio” to tease him

    • @AllTheArtsy
      @AllTheArtsy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Most people follow the -san honorifics for almost everyone. Sometimes just the family name. Sometimes with -kun for someone younger/junior.
      But. It's not always like that. It's personal preference unless for adults-children or employer-employee or client-service procider dynamics. Actually, it's becoming far more common now for young adults and teens to call each other by first names. Especially those in big cities. (I've teached at several high schools in the Kanto region the past 10 years)
      Also keep in mind that this is an anime, and the way characters address each other adds to the story telling, but isn't indicative of how scenarios like this might play out in actual social settings.

    @gh-ps5es 2 ปีที่แล้ว +361

    3:49 To ponder on this: Atsumu and Osamu are very competitive. It's not that Osamu *trusts* Atsumu to make a good play, but as his "rival" Osamu *knows* the ball's going to be there. I really love this aspect of Haikyuu where competition isn't stereotypically just about "getting better" than your competitor, but it's also that you *know* your competitor. You *chose* that person to compete against and by extension, it's a taunt from Osamu to Atsumu "You will give me that ball." And from Atsumu to Osamu "You will hit it" *Or. Else.*

    • @spin.chicken
      @spin.chicken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It can also be interpreted as "I'm good, and I know the ball will come to me." Or, "We both want to win, so the ball *will* come to me and I *will* hit it.". Trust isn't required in any scenario.
      I didn't really interpret it in a competitive light because the context doesn't really support that implication.

    • @gh-ps5es
      @gh-ps5es 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@spin.chicken I do think it's an ongoing theme throughout haikyuu; when Hinata provokes Kageyama for the ball for their first open-eyed freak quirk in s2, and throughout the second Karasuno vs. Dateko match where Kageyama had to reconcile with being king of the court and Hinata telling him it was okay to be demanding of his teammates as long as he was nice about it. I think it builds up to this moment and completes itself [SPOILER ALERT] during Aran's narration of how "Atsumu's greatest gift is Osamu" because they keep up with and compete with each other. I don't remember exactly what I felt when I watched this scene alone, probably confused as this was a piece of a bigger puzzle, but looking back on it, I can appreciate the implications of the theme left throughout the seasons as I've mentioned before. But I can totally see how it can be interpreted without the competition aspect; I just tend to look at the bigger picture and overall theme when considering things, or in this case, reconsidering after rewatching it.

    • @spin.chicken
      @spin.chicken 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gh-ps5es I'm not really going to read all that. It may be an ongoing theme, but that doesn't mean the evidence of OTHER characters translates to unrelated characters.
      Just because Kageyama and Hinata share a specific relationship doesn't imply Miya twins share the same relationship. Or, rather, doesn't imply that his statement is a direct reference to THAT.
      He knows the ball is coming because he knows he's good. He knows his brother. He knows they both want to win, and when both want to win they will set and play for each other.
      There's really nothing about his words that suggest YOUR implication. Rather, it supports my conclusion.
      You have to pay attention to what the related characters say and do. Not what OTHER characters say and do. Other characters don't translate to these characters.

    Hinata being so purely overjoyed every time his plays go well is just the most wholesome thing ever, and also relatable, 'cause that's exactly how it feels for me when I somehow manage a really good play; like a good dig in an awkward position because a reflex got me there, a good spike because I sync-ed my approach, jump, and swing to the T (which I count because it's still hard for me to be consistent with those), a serve that the others couldn't catch several times in a row... for a new player like me, who has just been playing for some months, those moments feel like something lights up inside you, and you feel crazy happy because you KNOW it was a good play, and you just replay those in your head and just remembering them lifts your mood and makes you want to make them a constant

    On Daichi's 'Super Saiyan' moment:
    I think he already had it, and it's not as bombastic as anyone else's, and it rules. Daichi's big moment was the match against Wakutani, the pink-uniform team with the other "little giant" from season 2.
    The focus is on Daichi for a while, both as a strong defender that's tough to deal with, as well as a strong leader who can keep his team in a good headspace. Daichi's not as much of a standout for his skills; he can't hit like Asahi or Hinata, he can't block like Tsukki, and even though he'd probably be a standout receiver on most teams, he's definitely a step behind Nishinoya. But we all know that Daichi is indispensable to the team. So what does the show do to prove it?
    They dispose of him.
    He gets injured, has to sit out the remainder of the match, and Ennoshita steps in. And we see Ennoshita step up, and it's a big moment for him, yeah. But I think, coach, you'll agree with me when I say that Ennoshita's success on the court, the team's success in that match (and every match), is Daichi's success, too; not just because he's a member of the team, but because he took responsibility to cultivate the team.
    What's impressive about Daichi is not and probably should not be some singular show of incredible prowess. What's impressive about Daichi is the unwavering support he gives his team. He sets a good example for them in his discipline AND in his emotions. He shows up consistently with drive to improve and compete, he recognizes the efforts of his teammates, he listens to them and defers to their knowledge when appropriate. He builds their confidence and trust ALONGSIDE their skills so that they go hand-in-hand.
    And when he has to sit out, it's okay, because the environment he helped create can sustain itself beyond him. He more than justifies his spot as a starter in the games; he's definitely skilled enough to hang. But by the time they're on the court, his most important contributions have already been made.
    I think you already agree with all this, so I guess I'm just taking an opportunity to rant about Daichi. That dude rules.

    I love the scene where Yamaguchi's mentor (Shimada) helped him regain his focus but I still feel kinda sad that the entire scene leading up to that wasn't shown in the anime. It's just a tiny change honestly, but in the manga, it showed the mentor running from karasuno's side for the audience all the way to Inarizaki's side just so he can show that Shimada Mart plastic bag to Yamaguchi (Tadashi Yamaguchi is his full name :). That's why he was panting at that scene while screaming and holding up the bad to Yamaguchi. Oh, and the reason he did it was because he knew that the "Exit" sign is what Yamaguchi uses as his "reset" mark for the match, and he realized that the sign visible to Yamaguchi during his serve is being blocked by the Inarizaki flag. That's why he rushed over to that side and did what he did. For me, it made the scene much more emotional since it shows just how much Shimada had come to care for his student, and also how far Yamaguchi had come.

    i feel like daichi doesnt really have "big" moments, because like s2 addressed, hes like the foundation nobody notices? and i forgot the exact saying, but "the best receives are the ones nobody notices", or something like that right? he doesn't do flashy plays but hes always there for the team, you only realize how important he is when hes missing (like when he got injured).
    but yes id definitely like to see him have a big moment just for our entertainment LOL

    27:08 Coach, you got this scene wrong. The scene where Osamu said "like hell I'm scared" ( 26:55 ) actually meant that he wasn't. So when Hinata was remembering about aone, that was Hinata thinking of what an actual scary blocker is like.

  • @rocksleee07

    The tip from Asahi was a miss-hit. He was trying to delay his spike by jumping early to bait the blockers to time their jump with him but apparently the jump was a little too early. By doing this, his goal was to spike the ball when the blockers are already going down so it will go over their reach.

    Hey Coach! At 7:37 the "commentators" you were referring to, particularly the one with the beard, is the coach for the national men's volleyball team, which represents Japan worldwide. He was also the coach at the National Youth Training Camp that Kageyama went to. He doesn't have many lines this season, but I personally really like his open-mindedness to the Karasuno, and I highly encourage you to focus on his insights throughout the game, especially his thoughts about Hinata.

    One thing that really hits me about this episode is that, during the practices, we see Kinoshita land more jump float serves than Yamaguchi, and it gives me this feeling of like "what? someone was able to do what Yamaguchi worked so hard for without a lot of work!" which seems frustrating. But then, during the game, Yamaguchi's jump float serves end up being much more effective, because he is able to do them with consistency. It's one of the greatest lessons in Haikyuu: talent can produce good results sometimes, but consistent reliability only comes from hard work over a long period of time.

    Sō Inuoka is the spiky brown haired Wing Spiker / Middle Blocker from Nekoma High. He was the one who, in season 1, was the first to be able to touch Hinata's quick and eventually the first to block it as well. He was replaced by Lev, if I remember correctly.
    He's basically the Hinata of Nekoma ; energetic, bubbly and always happy.

Well if you haven't noticed, since the other teams are watching a live broadcast of the game, the scene showed in the phone in the ending is different each episode matching the plays in the episode. It's not a new animation since they reuse scenes from the episode, but it's a detail that I really like since I imagine every other player reacting to the most amazing play in every chapter.

    Another fun fact: at 14:54 they describe Tanaka using the word 元気 ("genki"), which is a word meaning "lively" or "energetic", and also "feeling well" or "not ill". However, it also has connotations of being "airheaded" or "simple". For instance, there's a common phrase in Japanese, 馬鹿は風邪を引かない ("baka wa kaze wo hikanai") which means "idiots don't catch colds", connecting the "not ill" and "stupid" meanings of 元気.

    Oh, coach! Fun fact about Inarizaki! So, Inarizaki is from the Hyougo prefecture of Japan, which is the prefecture where Kobe is located (yes, the Kobe in Kobe beef). It's near some more famous Japanese cities like Osaka and Kyoto. And because they're from this area, they speak with a very distinctive accent! The "Standard" Japanese accent is based off of the Tokyo accent, but Inarizaki's players speak in what's known as the Kansai accent, which is usually seen as a bit less refined, a bit friendlier, and even funny, because a lot of comedians are from that region. That's why you'll see the players' speech transcribed rather informally in the subtitles, such as clipping the "g" of of "-ing" (e.g. "sayin'", "comin'").

    Man I really appreciate your video editor, James, as he puts in clips and some side comments which I think is awesome and just elevates your videos further (no pun intended hahaha)
    Awesome reaction especially with the scene with Yamaguchi. It was one of my favorite as well and even with the animation this season taking a hit I still like how rich the storyline.
    Before watching Haikyuu I wasn't really a volleyball fan because yeah I can see the power and speed but always thought it was all about just spiking the ball hard enough but seeing all the thoughts, techniques and plays just shows how deep the gameplay of volleyball is and hearing you give commentary on both volleyball and animation is just awesome.
    So thank you Coach for choosing to take that first step in reacting to Haikyuu!

    I played with some friends of a friend a year or so ago. Not much of a player personally but I always had a serving ritual ever since I was in middle school. When I went up to serve I heard a few times the other team laughing at me while I was doing it. So I decided to say something like "I don't know what's so funny, having a ritual isn't anything unusual. It's weirder that you guys are chuckling at me like a bunch of high schoolers." We're all around 30... Didn't get invited back but it was a good "I'm in control of myself and not afraid to be me" moment. I think we all need those no matter how old we are

  • @shinobishorty
    @shinobishorty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The man in the blue suit is Fuki Hibarida, the Japan national mens volleyball team coach. His insights are thoughtful but will (no spoilers) play a role later in story . He is at the tournament because at this time (2014 I believe) he knows that he will see some talented players to pay attention for for the 2016 and 2020 Olympics so he is paying attention and giving insight into their potential growth. For Hinata, he recognizes that Hinata’s “worth” on the court is currently tied to Kageyama’s ability as a setter but Miya Atsumu just pulled off the freak quick on a whim. It shows Hinata (and the coach) that there are other setters who can get Hinata the ball. So far from being depressed about having his move stolen, Hinata is seeing a future where he can shine with out being dependent on Kageyama.

    I think what Atsumu means when he says that he can't be as accurate as Kageyama, is that their Freak Quicks are actually different. (I think)
    Kageyama uses the new one that they came up with in season 2, where the ball stops flying exactly at the spiker's point of impact, giving Hinata more breathing room to play around with the attack, and change offensive strategies on the fly. (pun intended) It also gives him more leeway to cover when the set is short or long, since the Ball won't deviate much from where it stopped
    On the other hand, Atsumu uses something more akin to the Season 1 Freak Quick, where he sets the ball at extreme speeds, and times it so that it flies right into the Spiker's hand as they swing, but the ball doesn't stop at the point of impact, but rather, flies through it, Atsumu just times it so that the ball and the spiker collide perfectly, like what Kageyama and Hinata did in Season 1. But this version is reliant almost entirely on the setter. (hence why Karasuno changed it) This means Osamu needs to plan his attack in advance, and stick with it to the end, since the sheer speed of the toss means he can't improvise like Hinata can, and if Atsumu messes up the timing, the attack completely falls apart, and the best Osamu can do is to just barely get the ball over
