  • Always ensure your GOLF MK1 Manual Choke is set properly. If not, you could unknowingly be driving with it partially closed. This can cause performance issues, and use lots of Fuel. Here are some tips.

    Thanks for the video. I wanted to ask. What if you don't have the clamp that keeps the cable hooked. Is there a way to get that clamp separately?

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think you can get that little clamp anywhere ..best to make your own ...or use a bit of creativity...as long as it holds down the cable onto the bracket

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy

      Just pull it out a small bit..not fully
      Let engine idle for 2 minutes and drive off...push it back in when engine is running stable ...normally happens after 5 mins..

    Have a issue with my golf carburetor that it idles high at 2000rpm. Looks like the throttle body gets stuck, is there a way to fix it or must i just replace the whole carb, taken it out twice to clean and try and fix it but no cigar. Thanks for all the tips, Keep up the good work

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy

      Hi. Have you tried a drop of oil or Q20 on the hinge of the valve.. May just need bit of lubricating.. How is your accelerator cable. You sure there's not a kink in the tube where the cable runs in.. It happened to me once after I moved the cable, while I was working on carb. That's probably a long shot but anythings possible.. And sometimes it's a small issue causing the problem

      @@pjs-golfmk1-diy Thanks for the reply, no the carburetor is shot, it even does it when i take of the cable. Just going to bite the bullet and buy a new one at the end of the month, car was my father in laws and was not really maintained so now i get the all the presents that cost allot of money. But hey its wheels cant complain

    I have problem with choke ...| do everything that you describe in video BUT when I pull choke engine turn OFF.......can you tell me what could be reason of that engine stop?

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy

      How far are u pulling it out ..
      Because if u pull it out too far it will cut out ,meaning it's too rich then
      You just have to pull it out a little bit so that engine idles between 1000 to 1500 rpm. Look at this video

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That component is only for cars with aircon.. It serves no purpose, hence its blocked off on both sides. Make sure u block the port on carb side too,otherwise it sucks in air.

    My rpm is hunting on cold starts. Revs are smooth with choke pulled out then as it warms up the hunt begins. Possible cause?

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How's the carb? have you cleaned it out already. Could be dirty, and that particles can obstruct the main jet momentarily when choke comes into play.. Because when choke is on there's more suction happening... Just a thought..

      Well, why wud u not use it.? . On cold starts Your engine will start up much easier with the choke... And u will be able to drive off immediately, without choke, on a cold start, u will struggle a bit and wait for engine to warm up, using manual method., but that's your choice
