As an owner of two large dogs, I must say that Matt's boot test is the best in the business. Wish more reviewers will show the boot space of cars with dogs in them.

Mat gives the most entertaining and not boring reviews on cars. I used to watch his reviews on car buyer as a kid and that's how I got into specs and stuff about cars. The one thing I would complain about Is that he is doing a 2018 review on a 65 plate (2015) which I dont think makes a difference as they have the same shape but there would be some improved things in the 2018 i think.
While I love my 2018 RAV4 SE I wish I had known before I purchased it that you cannot install a bike hitch or tow a trailer of any kind with the SE trim level of this vehicle. Per page 181 of the owner's manual, Toyota does not recommend towing a trailer or installing a hitch carrier of any kind with the RAV 4 SE. You can tow with the other trim levels though. I just thought I would share this information for those who are considering purchasing this vehicle. Other than that fact, I love the RAV4. I wish I had bought the RAV4 Adventure though . . .
Jump on to the R4W fourum. Lots of people get hitches installed. You probably shouldn’t tow with it, but you could easily carry a bike rack with a Curt or U-Haul hitch. No problem s for me!
Mat with CVT is not noisy at all. 2016 facelift has an improved noise insolation. also you should mention that the seats are very very comfy. great car for long journeys.

Or a decent exterior for that matter, or a good infotainment system that allows you to change volume while switching the station, or good speakers that don't need a different equalizer setting for each song, or a door with less than 7 different materials on it, or engines that don't blow up....etcetera etcetera

I like this. It's a Toyota. It will last and do the job brilliantly .I think matts the best reviewer on TH-cam, but you can't have a go at hard plastic when it's supposed to be hard that silver trim is a metal effect 🤭 and he's jumping skills into a boot is sublime

I had a SE RAV-4 and an EXL-CRV. (Both 2018 models) Both are good cars, however my RAV-4 must have been had someone designing the function knobs and push keys that was still in the second grade. I had to use a flashlight to see hidden recessed buttons. The doors collect mud like crazy around the door sill area. The engine was very noisy. Of course the dealer says they are all that way. They are not all that way. At times the transmission was jerky at low and higher speeds. It's AWD system wouldn't get out of its own way. (North Dakota). After 3 years I traded for a CRV Touring. A far superior car. Great ride, smooth transmission, and much better overall gas milage for me. In the upper trims the Toyota costs a lot more. They charge extra for every little add on. Honda cars usually come all equipped with few add ons. The Toyota hybrid drove well. It is a CVT. The reason Toyota charges more is because people pay more. Both Honda and Toyota have made some lemons. That is why I lease my cars.

Bit concerned that you said that the diesel engine causes "arse-tingling" vibration... that model is on my shopping list and although I had a brief test drive of one, that wasn't something I noticed. How bad is it and is it at certain engine speeds or throughout the rev range?
I rented one of these in the Hybrid version with the 2.5 litre petrol engine. I must say that it is really smooth and nice. It does have the annoying transmission that hangs in the gears but I can't complain when I got 6.5 l/100km in city driving and saved more money than if I got a small petrol hatch
Great review but now in 2021 all the links for the in-depth review/ infotainment system review are all broken and link to the new model (not this 2018 model). Which is a bummer for those looking at buying this older model second hand.
hello every one i live in pakistan where weather conditions are extreme. automobiles are very expensive here compare to usa etc. but people buy toyota more especially in areas where roads are not good. i found more old toyota vehicle's than any other brand same in the saudi arabia. why is that? weather conditions in saudi arabia are extremely hot and toyota rules there too. i have driven toyota vitz ( yaris) 1.0 lite 65 horsepower automatic Japanese made i found it slow but comfortable why toyota said to be more reliable than any other japanese brand ? sorry for bad english i hope u don't mind☺

Old Toyotas are extremely good in extreme weather. It's also why they were extremely popular in Northern Europe (the ones with snow and ice). French cars didn't do well and Italians wouldn't even start...and Germans were expensive both to buy and maintain.
infiltr80r I drove new Toyota Auris, Golf 7 and new Megane. Compared with last 2,Toyota had a interior extremely cheap, simple and bad handling. Normal that is reliable if at technology level is extremely low. No touch screen no sistem start stop plastic extremely cheap,i had a good opinion in past but after i drove it, Toyota it's a bad joke

Yeah they're going downhill. But a start stop button isn't a big deal for most, I actually prefer the old school key turning method which is more reliable.
Your opinion of the cars would change after 5 years of driving them.
I searched for cars that are still in working condition for sale that have done 300,000km. There are many Toyotas and Volkswagens but very few Renaults.

I've just bought a 2013 RAV4 2.2 D Auto Invincible. A short test drive convinced me that I wanted one. Picking it up next Friday. My partner has had one of the earlier model RAV4 for 16 years and it's still going strong, so i'm hoping mine will be as reliable. Time will tell.
What model is that rav4? The front looks a lot different than what i usually see on a rav4.

Can anyone confirm what the ground clearance for this UK gen 4 model is? I can only find US model data suggesting it's only 6.1 inches (155mm), which seems very low for a RAV4. The gen 5 claims to be 190mm (Toyota UK official), which seems more credible.

I guess by having less engine options they can test them better, hence the reliability. If they could only improve the perceived quality of the interiors.. like you say, that stitching on the steering wheel is horrid and they have it on other models as well.

Hi Mat, don't you find that the satnav screens on the Toyotas are angled towards the co-driver slightly? They are the only cars I had this problem with, it feels odd because when I drive and have the satnav on, I need to be able to see clearly, as well as hear, where I am going. The angled position is always catching the light making it difficult to see, too. Am I the only one who has noticed this or is it something you get used to when driving these cars? I assume you guys get the cars for longer than a quarter hour's test drive that we mere mortals get from dealerships. I am trying to change my car now and it is so hard to find a car that will give me all that I am looking for, at a price I can afford and be good for low mileage drivers. Lots of diesels out there, some stunning ones, too, but not short runs.
This car has a 65 plate , and the review date is Aug 2016 so it can't be a review of the 2018 model it says in the title !!!!!!!!!!!

Strange that the UK Diesel only comes in Manual. In Australia it's a 2.2L Diesel with CVT only but only 3 years warranty offered here. I think you are wrong about the handling, I drive mine like a race car sometimes and use the CVT manual touch-shift feature to push the turbo and it sticks to the road well. Quite cool you can store the cargo cover under the floor.
Northpoint we don't get the diesel at all now. UK Toyota Rav4 no longer comes as a diesel.

what's the performance of the car with a hybrid engine, does it have good milage and power or is it noticeably inferior in these categories? thank you.
7l/100km if you respect trafic signals, 8/100km if you drive faster. In city you can get les than 6l/100km. 0-100km in 8.x sec is a very fast car and fun to drive. With 4x4 driving in wet mountain roads is amazing. if you race is easy to get 9l/km or more
