    A couple of years ago Toyota announced all it’s major models will have a hybrid variant. Soon after that hybrid Auris and Yaris appeared. And in 2016 also Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Hybrid version of Toyota’s popular crossover was launched in Europe with the mid-cycle face-lift. After three years the 4. generation Toyota RAV4 received some cosmetic changes. In case of Auris and Yaris Toyota boasts the hybrid drivetrain does not impact boot or passenger space. In the hybrid RAV4 the boot is slightly smaller, and less easy to use.

    Yes, i would buy the rav4, because no Hybrid Avensis :)
    After driving a Prius everyday, in a short time you get lazy and find both, driving a manual or a classic automatic, too engaging, and gets you out of your thoughts.
    Just stepping suddenly on the accelerator and having that same power at any speed, just makes your day.
    Even if I love cars, and mainly sports manuals, after 20 years I still believe that hybrids, electrics and mostly autonomous cars are the future for transportation of normal people on normal roads.

  • @sjmedia_official
    @sjmedia_official 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You are used to normal cars and you are not used to hybrid which are basically computers on wheels and very different to drive, this hybrid was also not made to compete with plug-in hybrids like PHEV, but to compete with diesel cars, (less fuel, less noX, CO2 ...)
    Not sure help me ,,, this color or white is nicer? More I look at this car I like it more, it is a love on second sight though.. (subscribed)

    I don't like Toyotas particularly but I was interested in this hybrid. As the review continued the only thing that I really liked were the door seals. Great review anyway.

    After 10 years with the Prius, I was ready to move on! 2016 RAV4 Hybrid! Thank you Toyota! Differences of option, sure! But, why is there so much anger? Maybe that is why there is the angry whopper at burger king for your dining pleasure. Ha ha!

    If I`m not mistaken this latest RAV4 does not come with a 4 WD combined with the diesel engine...at least not an option in Slovakia... 4WD is only available with petrol and hybrid. In Europe? No 4wd with diesel???

  • @behnamanisi1
    @behnamanisi1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Marek you do good reviews honest but when you compare the toyota brand and reliability against any other Suv in its price range you will see this is best you can get! It is a very good car. Maybe also think about the people who watch your videos are mostly looking to buy a second hand almost new car so comparing the brand new car price are not the most accurate way of comparing cars. Mazda gives you 3 years ... this gives you 5, this is 5 years of peace of mind with a well known motor company.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Second hand markets differ greatly from country to country, so I can't speak for second hand car market even in one of neighbouring countries. As far as warranty is concerned, it's also different from market to market. Toyota in Poland offers 2 or 3 years warranty. Only KIA and Hyundai give you 7 and 5 years respectively. In other brands you can usually buy an extended warranty.

    I'm planing on buying a hybrid suv after my current car. But I think it will be a PHEV just because my daily travel is about 30km with the possibility to charge at my destination. It seems like the Rav4 won't save me anything on the fuel bill as my current Skoda Yeti with 4wd and dsg gets around 0.55-0.6.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Judging by your name you're form Scandinavia. You've got developed charging infrastructure over there, don't you?

    • @HastPhotography
      @HastPhotography 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marek Drives that's correct, I'm from Sweden :)
      Yeah, it's not great yet, but it gets better and better every day almost. Every shopping mall got a few 16A or fast charging outlets. And every big shopping mall is about 40-50km away from me, so I wouldn't need to use so much petrol if I go for the PHEV

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Björn Hast So it's Ampera or Outalnder PHEV for you. Personally I'd go for BMW i3 (possibly with the optional range extender), but I realise it's not the best family car. Come to think of it, neither is the Ampera, so you're pretty much left with Outlander PHEV. Or a Volvo XC90 T8, which is a brilliant car.

    • @HastPhotography
      @HastPhotography 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marek Drives yeah and I live on the countryside where I need the awd and I got 2dogs. I have driven the I3 which is an excellent car, but for my situation it isn't optimal. The XC90 is a brilliant car as well, a little expensive though, haha. My parents got the V60 D6 (plug-in hybrid) and it's that car that want me to get a plug-in to, even if I know you're not loving the PHEV, but it seems like the best option for me :)

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Björn Hast Poland is a small car market in general. In 2015 we bought 352k passenger cars, and that was the highest number since 2003. For comparison in Sweden you bought 345k new cars last year, and your population is about a quarter of Polish population. We have undeveloped charging infrastructure (maybe 70 regular charging points across Poland, and you can count CHAdeMO points on your fingers). From that perspective an expensive PHEV only make sense, when 1. you have a parking space with a charging point (usually that means a house or an apartment with underground parking), 2. real-life range is at least 50-60 km, and none of the PHEVs I tested delivered anything close. Maybe the Ampera, which if preconditioned, and the weather is moderate can get to high 40s, low 50s. But that's still a very expensive 4-seater with a small boot.
      And to make things worse the Outlander PHEV in Poland costs the equivalent of 470k kr. So it's a very expensive car, that gives you very modest savings.

    Does FWD not have a Sport Mode button?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      During the launch event for this generation we were told the sport button is for the AWD model, and it makes the AWD proactive (meaning it will send power to the rear earlier, than in normal mode, which is supposed to help during spirited driving). Perhaps over the years they added the sport button to the FWD car, and it changes the throttle response or something, but at the time of filming this wasn't the case.

    The CVT gearbox is the achilles heal.
    Top gear tested the prius against a m3 e92 and the m3 had a better economy.
    so are toyotas hybrids any good?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      TG Prius vs. M3 was based on driving the Prius flat-out, and M3 keeping up. Obviously flat-out Prius is not very economical, and M3 was just tagging along, not even breaking a sweat. Put the two cars in traffic (Prius' natural habitat), and M3 would be out of fuel much sooner, than the Prius.

      +Marek Drives EXACTLY. I hate it when people take the test out of context just to prove their point.

    • @Photologistic
      @Photologistic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      skylineXpert The most ridiculous test imaginable. RAV4 kills the beemer for fuel economy. They had it slip streaming the Prius. Toyota radar cruise enables incredible mileage behind a truck. You feel the car slow before you ever notice the vehicle ahead of you slow, let alone the brake lights. RAV4 gets excellent gas mileage on state roads OR highways.

    @Deltro61 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think if you're going to review cars you need to be nonbiased or you have no business reviewing cars to begin with. The reviewer here just seems angry and is looking for things to criticize. I think Toyota has a pretty amazing technology. I drove the Prius for 15 months before deciding to purchase the RAV4 (2018) at this point. Short of the Nissan rogue, there is no competition to the RAV4 Toyota. The technology here is even simpler than the Prius, so I think we can expect to see hundreds of thousands of miles or kilometers for this vehicle. Toyota has one of the most dependable vehicles on the road today.
    2019 version gets a limited slip differential in the rear, and increased fuel economy. Personally not my cup of tea with the styling, which is why I bought 2018, but it represents a pretty big step forward from previous generations. I'll be interested to see what the reviewers have to say.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you're from the US, so from your perspective RAV4 Hybrid fuel economy figures are probably impressive. From European point of view, less so. They car is competitively priced to persuade customers to choose hybrid over diesel, but if you're covering long distances on this side of the pond it's diesel or nothing.
      On a personal note, I love US spec 2019 RAV4 styling. Unfortunately in Europe we're going to get a different fascia, because we don't have larger models like the Tacoma, from which the US RAV4 takes design cues.

    • @bogdanmongol9518
      @bogdanmongol9518 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      On long distance Toyota hybrid + gpl. Here in Europe is the best choice for the money. Prius 3gen - 4140 km in 7 days (on highways 140km/h +, 87 miles/h) cost 170 euro fuel. Wich is 190 US dollars. Beat that with a diesel.
      For comparasion, a very economical diesel in almost the same condition required for 3700 km (speed the same 140 km/h+) 300 euro fuel, wich is 337 US dollars.

      Marek Drives Marek, I drove 3 years petrol and 12 years diesel cars, manual only. I really dont see a point of getting Diesel over a Hybrid unless you drive 90% motorway, also I dont see any other point than a noise issue (got used to it) of prefering DSG over CVT when you cannot really change the gears yourself (paddles under the steering wheel.. in real life, no one is using them for 99% of the time anyway).
