Hey everyone! This video was supposed to go up several hours ago! I'm extremely tired!!
Essentially, there was a bit of hardware failure on my end, or in other words, there was karmic retribution for my poor backup habits. Thankfully, everything turned out okay and the video was pieced back together. There does seem to be a bit of an issue with the voiceover file, but I've smoothed it over as much as I can. Hopefully it sounds acceptable.
I had a whole speech about personal goals and the direction I wanted to take the channel, and in the chaos I seem to have forgotten pretty much all of it. If it comes back to me, I'll let you know. Until then, hope you enjoy!😅

There is actually a mod called "Zero Mod" where every questions answer is zero, so Baldi stays at his friendly state and doesn't move for the whole game of you get all right
There's a similar mod where all it does is remove the impossible questions.

It was part of a really stupid rule thing that happened in quite a few schools where being part of bullying in any way got you in trouble (being bullied was included which could get you in trouble, it was a horrible choice).

Also, the irony that figuring out Baldi's AI requires more complex math than the game throws at you makes me laugh.
It's not irony, that's Baldi's advanced math class.
His internal math is more complicated because you are simply not on Baldi's level, scrub. :P
Baldi never says “Divided by”. No multiplication or division problems appear. In the glitchy question, he does this:
“(Loud noise) plus (loud noise) times (loud noise)”. In every question he says equals after he reads the question to you.
"Playing an educational math game is easier than coding it" is like the literal opposite of irony.

Actually, teleportation would leave a vacuum where you were, causing the air to rush in and cause a louder-than-eardrum-rupturing boom

The cool thing is that in the remake you can actually tell if Baldi finds a sound interesting by his reaction in the HUD.
If he gives an unsure expression then he'll consider going around that area, but if he knows you're there, he'll look excited.
Close. Basically, if he has the thinking expression, it means that the sound is lower or same priority than/as whichever one he heard prior, meaning he win'y follow it until he found the last noise. And the excited face means that this noise is on top of Baldi's priority list and is heading to it

in any game, the player should be controlling an NPC technically no different than other entities. the reason for any action against the player should not be because they are the player.
im guessing the principal doesnt catch other people and objects running is because your natural walking speed is low because you are extremely wide and theres no rule against teleporting.

So, this video was actually my first introduction to Baldi’s Basics. After finishing this video, I then went on a week long Baldi Binge and watched a bunch of letsplays of all the different versions out there, and then I came back here and watched this again. Needless to say I was far more informed on the information this time around, but more than anything what had originally fascinated me was the AI breakdown of this meme-era horror game I had never seen before, and how different it appeared from a stereotypical horror game, yet still manages to be so incredibly unnerving. Anyway thanks for that

So thank you a lot for putting it the way you did because I’m terrible at conversion and wouldn’t have actually known the meaning of the numbers if you put them in milliseconds. He's ruining the "horror" aspect of the game by making it predictable. Not really a problem here imo since baldi was never really scary to begin with.

If this weren't a "meme game", this could make for a pretty good stealth game. Like, can you imagine this as a first-person Pac-Man game?
It's going beyond simply being a "meme game" now because it's getting a fully-fledged game built off this. Makes this as a prototype of sorts.
From the three-phase system and how Chase Phase is handled, I'd say it's more like Metal Gear 2.
There's already a first-person horror pac man, it's called Darkest Descent or something like that. It's really well made (if you hate playing horrors like me, watch John Wolfe play it).

I love it when a game makes AI that interact with each other in a meaningful way. (specifically having the bully also get targeted by the principal) things like that just really bring any game to life for me. even one as basic as this one.
I remember an article talking about how that’s part of why Skyrim became such a huge hit, since the world doesn’t revolve around your character (in gameplay, that is). The player got caught between a dragon and a giant and was ecstatic when they attacked each other instead of ganging up on him.

What I love about these is that it shows how intricate these games are and how simple they really aren't. If either this or FNAF had poorly designed AI I don't think they would have taken off.
A complex AI is harder to predict, and an unpredictable threat is the key to horror.
Making things simple to the player can be incredibly difficult to code/script depending on what it is really

Makes me wonder how fast Baldi will go at his normal absolute maximum speed - and also at the highest speed possible, probably breaking the game or Baldi's A.I.
Depends on the implementation of "absolute maximum speed"
If you were to set his move timer to 0 (or less), he would move and slap every frame (can be seen at 12:51).
If you were to extend his movement range per slap higher than before, I'm pretty sure he'd move so fast he'd overshoot the player and would be stuck circling around the player.

Baldi's highest speed possible is pretty much around an interval that is as long as Baldi's slapping time. He will never go any faster than that, besides ear killing.
Baldi's AI and the game don't break when he's slapping regularly (he always uses the same speed for slapping, and not the interval, if you actually watched the entire video) so it's safe to say he won't even at the lowest interval.
There was a really funny video that showed Baldi going full speed, but I can't find it anymore. =\

This is exactly how physics works in reality. I’m blown away by how incredibly similar this is to things we find on quantum physics, down to the buffer of temporary anger and things being able to somehow exist yet not really only if the player doesn’t see. The observer effect is so critical in physics.

Thanks for the explanation. I keep forgetting Arts & Crafters even exists - he was basically nonexistant for most playthroughs I've watched, often eliciting little more than a "What the hell was that?" reaction. Seems intentional - with programming like that, he's like a malicious easter egg.

hey, since you're on the topic of taking apart horror game AI, why not do it with a game that has a similar following to Baldi and FNAF? SLENDER! I'd love to see you tear Slenderman's AI to pieces, either in the original 8 Pages or the remake, The Arrival. I imagine the 8 Pages game would be relatively simple AI, while The Arrival would... also probably still be simple but with more to it? Like Slenderman doesn't even do anything to attack you, technically you only die if stare at him too long or in scripted sequences. Perhaps the Proxy from The Arrival would have more substance to it, but still, I'd love to see how Slenderman works in those games.

There are a few points in the game where there are “scripted sequences” where he spawns in certain points, I’m 90% sure it checks certain spots to see if you’re looking at them, and when you’re not he is teleported to the position that he is needed in.

Have you ever thought about dissecting the AI of L4D2? I don't mean the zombie AI I mean the global AI that determines when to spawn hordes, specials, etc.
I heard it was actually a little more complex, as it followed the players and how much HP they had, ammo, if they are down players, etc.
I don't know if you could make a whole video on it, I don't know how deep it goes but just an idea, I am not even sure if you could decompile it with any ease if it isn't already

Getting sent to detention: You know how Principal of the Thing says " seconds, detention for you!" when he delivers the player to the detention hall? Yeah Baldi might have heard that.
Exit blocked in endgame: Since we can safely assume Filename2 is the one blocking the exits (NULL mode, BBCR) _and_ the one screaming "GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!" after you get all 7 noteboos (as it gets removed after beating NULL mode in, again, BBCR), he's probably the one notifying Baldi about the exits he blocks in the endgame. Perhaps it's a voice in his mind?

If you were to talk about FNAF 2, since its pretty much the same, you could focus on the chances of rare screens or characters. For example, the Shadow Freddy in the Parts and Service room, and the Paper Pals or Shadow Bonnie appearing in the office, as well as the endoskeleton popping up in (i think) the Music Box Room.
