Without going into any spoilers here, I've watched a full playrthrough of the Hex. The game is quite meta, but its not really a horror game, so I don't know if it would fit well with Manly's channel. That being said I would love to watch him play it.
On its own, this is a good take on Tamogotchi horror, as specific as idea as that is. With the strongly implied connection to the rest of the developer's work, I'm now half-expecting the "full version" of this to be a minigame in his next project.
The first Buddy really really got me the way he said he wanted you to buy the full game and enjoy it with another Buddy. At first, I thought this was a game about Nihilism. Somehow, that really got me emotional. Especially, the monologue. That led me to a question about cloning. If you clone your old dog who passed away...would the clone really be the same dog? In this line of thinking, would a person's clone still be that person?
As cloning currently exists, no. All it does is create a new organism with the same genetic makeup. A clone of you wouldn't be the same person any more than an identical twin. Now, if your mind could be replicated as well, then you could argue that it would be the same person. I wouldn't agree, but there would at least be an argument to be made. But as it stands, no, a clone is not the same organism.
Yeah a clone of a dog is the same thing as that dog's twin. Completely different living beings with different experiences, and due to epigenetic changes that are responses to our environment, the dogs wouldn't even have the same responses, health, or exact appearances as they aged.
That's easy. It will never be the same person regardless of how perfect the clone is. There only exist one original one. The clone is a another being with just similarities.
Virtual pet: “dont quit the game or ill die” Me, immediately out loud: “quit!” I have come to the realization that reverse psychology may work wonders on me.
I think the diverse enemies transitioning to Grim Reapers symbolize that death is inevitable and no matter how long (much) you’ll (progress) live, in the grand scheme of things you can’t escape death. Edit: And the BitBuddy even after reaching lvl 30 is still disappointed that you can’t bring them to a higher level, symbolizing that they want to live longer than their due date and how their life is in your hands.
6:30 i find it really intriguing that he mentions having been on the holiday once, before taking the player along. if he's just a demo/free trial, how could this be? why would he have taken a trip in the boat alone before? idk, i just feel like it's something to think abt and i'm a little surprised not to see many people mentioning it, although maybe i'm just not looking hard enough for other comments. mr. mullins why must u hurt us so. 😔
I think the implication is that the Holiday is both where Bitbuddys come from and where they long to return to. When they're born, they travel alone on the boat through the Holiday screen to get to the main menu. At least that's my interpretation.
I've been having a hard time mentally lately and when the BitBuddy said "I don't have much to live for but I still wanna live so please don't quit" it hit me hard
There is so much potential to this concept! It would be great if in a paid version there will be different characters with different personalities that react differently to being in this situation. Some may panic and plead you not to quit, some may have already accepted death, some might even be manipulative of you since not everybody always acts in a good way... It would make everything feel more realistic and get you more attached to the buddies, making you feel like you killed a real critter with personalities and emotions. I was also thinking it would be a bit funny if the buddy changes their expression to a terribly frightened one when you move your cursor on the quit button. After some times of going back and forth with the cursor on the quit button it may unlock a dialogue kind of like..."do you...enjoy seeing me in terror?...". Different endings...each buddy growing as characters OR getting worse!! Hating you or loving you, desperately gripping onto life or accepting death... They're all factors that will add to your guilt after killing the buddy. I'd love to see something like that, or maybe I just like not being able to sleep at night.
@@samubluu_ Of course! Hopefully the dev considers something bigger for this project instead of letting it be a small indie game bc I agree that it has so much potential, I'll be honest as stupid as it is I was legit tearing up to this game earlier and unsure if it was a bad timing or if it really touched my heart but the way the character talks to you and how melancholic he stares at you; you can feel the control of his life in your hands, it has got me thinking - I could imagine how good of a psychological horror it could even be if they implemented different personalities + more interactions & reactions just like you said and etc. I saw a comment talking about a feature where you could be able to reset his death (somehow) or somewhere around that and him remembering what you did and he says stuff like "despite you killing me 5th time I enjoy being here with you..." it's just so chilling to me oml
@@kdkcoskcosfkd13 I really hope the developers do consider this! I'd love to work on something like this... I got ideas lol. People like games that fuck with your brain, and this game has already gotten some attention, it would be a bit of a shame to leave it as it is in my opinion, but ofc its the developer's choice
Inscryotion, the Hex, and Pony island are all very closely related narratively. All part of a greater Meta Universe about the nature of game develolement ect. I think this probably is linked to something new.
@@ctpp64 Basially, the meta part has some reference, and the sound effect is reused. For a boarder sense, both are games that are in somewhat popular genres, that has quite some clones when at their respective peak popularity. Daniel Mullins games mostly are games about games (and game developments) so often the actual gameplay isn't the main focus but being the plot device for teling the bigger story.
Doobeth makes me wonder about all of the other games I've played. All of the characters I've created and abandoned as their stories ended. The internal battery on those cartridges eventually ran out, and so too did the memory. Good thing Toy Story was just a fantasy and not a reality. Right? At least none of those game devs gave their characters enough awareness of what they are. I also wonder if we'll ever see anything like demo discs again. I miss those.
Meanwhile, I'm personally kinda enjoy how the Pokemon franchise goes, but never bother to actually play them, for just not loving the idea of egg breeding to get high IV pokemons for tournaments. That part of the fandom kinda make me rather uncomfortable even though they did nothing wrong.
@@FlameRat_YehLon Thank God, someone else finally says it. The idea of IV breeding strikes me as kind of horrible because it's basically just the player setting up a factory farm and shitcanning potentially hundreds of innocent little baby Pokemon. It's like when people invade villages in Minecraft, tear everything to the ground, and round up all the villagers in what's essentially a huge slave pen.
Guys don't be fooled There's probably like some type of ancient text info in the code of this game that's going to be necessary for the next ARG involving the next big game he makes in here
If I had a nickel for every time manly played a tamogachi like game that was sad I'd have two nickels, which isn't much but I can at least buy some small tissues to clear my waterfall tears!
When the pet said hes only been there once before when he was in the holiday mode it made me think how awesome and disturbing it would be if they all shared the same soul/consciousness and remembered what you did to him. Counting up the times you did things like "this is the 5th time ive been here but I still love being here with you". I'm a psychopath I know...
The problem is that that completely upends the point of the game. If they're all the same character, then BitBuddy is basically immortal. That means he'd have no reason to be scared of dying.
Y’know, BitBuddy actually reminds me of that one character from Presentable Liberty. Specifically the one who’s purpose is to make you happy, our lil’ buddy gives me the same vibes
@@local_stranger same bro, he’s the main reason I still remember presentable liberty after all these years, the way he folds as time goes on left an impact on me :
@@flintfrommother3gaming From Google's docs on Android: "If your app has a cached process and it retains resources that it currently does not need, then your app-even while the user is not using it- affects the system's overall performance. As the system runs low on resources like memory, it kills processes in the cache. The system also accounts for processes that hold onto the most memory and can terminate them to free up RAM." GC is a part of that mechanism.
4:55 it reminded me of that game too! It's one of the minigames in Tomodachi Life where the Miis are 8-Bit, and if you beat the final boss item, you get to keep it! :D
on the itch io page in the comments is someone named Bandito7 sharing another promo code from 'their uncle'. I dont exactly remember but i think bandit was relevant in the other two games with their arg and secrets. There are also spelling error in the comments which might be a clue to another puzzle like it was done in inscyription. Reason why i suspect them to be related to the game is because their account was made a day ago around the same time the game was released.
Bandito7 is, as far as I know, was just a dude who can be seen multiple times in The Hex. Spoilers... Most notably, the dude was in your Stream Chat giving "spoilers" to trollish or unfair answers for a quiz minigame, in a game _that just debuted,_ claiming that he saw someone else play it... Bandito7 is also known for making the Aliens mod for Waste World. (On a side note, It is likely that this dude was hit with a Cease and Desist, before his alien characters were taken and put into Vicious Galaxy without permission or payment.) But beyond his name dropping in the background of the flashbacks, I don't think he has much lore value _Unless I missed something with the VERY RECENT Woodcarver ARG..._
Nah, tried that, His "Death Cutscene" Just waits for you to play his holiday, despite his current age, then after that ends he starts talking about aging and what not till he dies.
I immediately thought of the happy buddy from presentable liberty. Characters desperately trying to please you because if they don't something terrible will happen is always a gut punch of a trope
Can't believe the timing of P03 straight up commenting on a new DM game and him being finally deleted in the final void of r/place on almost the exact same day, wild
@@horserage Reddit hosted another r/place event (basically a blank canvas where everyone can place a single pixel every 5 minutes for 72 hours) and the r/Inscryption sub put a stoat pixel art on there that survived the entire time. After it was done you could only place white tiles as the finale, deleting everything until only a white void remained. That ending was last night, so the timing is (although most likely unintentional) very funny
Reminds me of the buddy simulator demo, except the ai didn’t realize they were only a trial until the end; same sense of existential dread for the digital character though
i feel like the clue about p03 might have something to do with the Archivist battle. I know they have special lines of dialouge for using pony island, hex, and inscryptions' exe files, but i don't know if anyone has tried with this game's exe
This is Ralph. Ralph is a concept created by you while reading this. When you stop, Ralph ceases to exist. Your attention is the thin barrier between Ralph and the void. "I'm scared," says Ralph.
Something interesting I think is in the second act of Inscryption there is a dock on Leshy's island that doesn't have a boat at it. That may have nothing to do with this, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if Daniel connects these two that way
For people who want to try this game but don't know how to reset, try this 3 steps: 1. Delete the whole game. 2. Go to "AppData\LocalLow", delete the "FunTech" folder. 3. Open up your Registry Editor, go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\", delete the "FunTech" folder. Then reinstall the game, it should be all reset.
But what if, You dont use the holiday button and let the pet grow, then use it only on close to his death, because he said that if he had a place to die it would be there, what if?
I think this was for the Ludum Dare game jam that happened not too long ago. I highly encourage you check out the other games there because the theme was "Delaying the inevitable" and there's a chance there's actually pretty good content for this channel. It would also help if you rate those games too!
I think the 3ds game was called Find Mii if I remember correctly if it was linear. Miitopia isn’t as linear and it was also on the 3ds. Both great games

On its own, this is a good take on Tamogotchi horror, as specific as idea as that is. With the strongly implied connection to the rest of the developer's work, I'm now half-expecting the "full version" of this to be a minigame in his next project.

@@Cainus44 REALLY?
It's not that deep bro
A clone is a genetic copy, not a duplicate. Just like you are half of each of your parents, you don't have half their memories.

I think the implication is that the Holiday is both where Bitbuddys come from and where they long to return to. When they're born, they travel alone on the boat through the Holiday screen to get to the main menu. At least that's my interpretation.

Don't have much to live for but I still don't want to die. 100% relatable

I saw a comment talking about a feature where you could be able to reset his death (somehow) or somewhere around that and him remembering what you did and he says stuff like "despite you killing me 5th time I enjoy being here with you..." it's just so chilling to me oml

Haven't played inscryption yet but the hex was really fun, how does it tie into it
Doobeth makes me wonder about all of the other games I've played.
