I prayed one night to know which bible to read. First thing next morning at work someone asked me to sort through a box of unwanted items left at the office by an ex-employee. The last item in the box was a KJV with gold leaf pages and special leather bound zipped cover. For those wanting a more detailed look at the King James bible, there is a book entitled: "God's Secretaries: The Making of the King James Bible". Well written, with a lot of information about the times and society King James I lived in. This was also the time of William Shakespear. A time when the English language was very poetic. That is reflected in both Shakespear and the KJV Bible. It is the beauty of that language that makes the King James Bible, and one of the reasons it is still used today. Forget the translation accuracy, listen to the words and style. You don't have to be a Christian to enjoy it.
That's a common misconception that the KJV was written in contemporary English. It wasn't. That's the language of the spirit world. King James wrote a book and the sound and spelling is nothing like the KJV Bible.
@@oriraykai3610 Stranhgely enough, the King James Version is very much like Shakespeare. He was writing plays at the same time as the KJV was being written. So yes, it was written in the language of the day.
@Professor Fez That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. "The King James is not a translation because it doesn't contain any Greek or Latin". Read some books "Professor"
@Professor Fez Do you know what the word translation even means? Please see the Title page of the KJV; it reads: "Translated out of the original tongues and with the former translations diligently compared and revised by his majesty's special command" Alas, I'm probably wasting my time.
@Professor Fez What is this "illiterate society" you speak of? No original languages? OT- Hebrew NT-Greek Portions of Daniel -Aramaic Romans 3:1-2 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because unto them were committed the oracles of God. (KJV) When was Israel ever an illiterate society? Also English is not a 'metalanguage" it is the richest and most complete language in the world. English is the universal language of commerce. All of the Air Traffic Controllers and airline pilots in the world communicate in English. English is taught in the public schools of every industrialized nation in the world. English is the official language in 70 countries. English is the language of computers. English is the easiest language in the world to learn. The King James Bible is the only book in the world that has sold over a billion copies worldwide. (No other book comes close). The King James Bible has no financial copyright. In other words anyone can reproduce and distribute it in any form without asking permission or paying any royalty. 200 plus modern versions in the last 100 or so years have not succeeded in replacing the King James Bible.
Floyd Grissom Professor Fez is trying to explain o you that the Bible was passed down verbally from the 1st century onwards because the common folk couldn’t read. They were then written down a long time afterwards in Greek. Then St Jerome translated it into Latin. Then almost 1,200 yers later it was translated into English. Mind you there are not original copies of this book. So the KJV is a translation of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy. Which is then translated from another copy of another copy of another copy. And after all those years the English translation is the most reliable? Also you make an extremely ridiculous statement by claiming English is the most complete language. It’s merely a lingua Franca. It does not have the abilities of older or more sophisticated languages and lacks the simplicity of some newer ones as well.

I grew up on the King James Bible. This is so interesting!everything touched by man is open to interpretation, and in my opinion, religion is like that. People mold the words to fit their agenda.
The issues he listed were printing errors not translation issues. While the King James Version's English is dated, it does very accurately reflect the original languages. Many of the words are considered archaic today, but they are very good choices to translate the Hebrew or Greek. While not absolutely perfect, it is just about the most accurate translation of the traditional Hebrew and Greek texts in English. But if you can't get past the old English the New King James or English Standard Version are good translations also.
You mean Modern English. To call the King James Bible old English is misleading, if not being a false witness altogether. Also, would you say "thee", "thou", and "ye" are archaic? If yes, what are the three equivalents we would use today?
@@TarkynSharples2 I'm not sure I understand your comment fully. In particular the first sentence "You mean Modern English." To which part of my comment is this addressed? (I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just wanting to be sure I understand) As to your comments about my use of "old English" and "archaic", I suppose it's fair to characterize those terms as a bit sloppy (though I'd argue "false witness" is a bit severe). My use of old English was intended more to describe the "Ye Oldy" feeling many describe as a reason for not liking the King James Version. And I'm willing to admit that it wasn't the most accurate or clear way to describe the English used in the King James Bible. To answer the question specifically about the modern English equivalent of "thee", "thou" and "ye" I would say that the use of the word "you" is their "equivalent". We use "you" as a plural (ye) and a singular (thee/thou) and rely on context to determine the difference (or we add "guys" or "all" to it). While the "ye's" and "thee's" may detract from the modern readability to some today , they do accurately aid the reader in identifying when and plural was used in the original languages.
Hey @@andrewolsen5667, I agree with most of your original comment. I was only giving you correction on those things which required it. I wasn't trying to be adversarial. You said: "But if you can't get past the old English" where my reply was "You mean Modern English." I could have stated it in a different way. I could have said: "Actually, the King James Bible was written in Modern English, and not Old English." However, it still stands that referring to the King James Bible as "old English" is equivocation, which is a form of false witness. I don't know your intent, but regardless, it was a misleading or ambiguous statement. Anyway, I'm not condemning you, only reproving you in the hope that you will acknowledge the fault. To that end, I think me using "false witness" is not severe, but perhaps more offensive than you prefer. Brief note about "Ye Oldy". When you see "Ye Olde" such and such, that "Y" is actually a stand-in for the English letter "thorn" (þ), which has the "th" sound. So when something says "Ye Olde", it is actually "Þe Olde" or "The Olde". ========== Regarding now the sound of the King James Bible when compared to modern Bible versions. "Thou" and "Ye" were still used in Bibles until between the 1901 American Standard Version, which had those words, and the 1952 Revised Standard Version which omitted those words. However, "Thou" and "Ye" were used in versions published after that year, though it was far less common. So why did those words get removed? They actually fell out of use during the 1500s and 1600s. It was not in common speech. Yet it was retained at least until the 1901 ASV. Why was it retained? Because it was accurate. It was a correct translation of the Hebrew and Greek words, and so conveyed the same message which those languages conveyed. Now as to why they were removed. No, not because it sounded like "old English", though that is the excuse you may hear. It was already "old" when the 1611 King James Bible was published. The reason is because the language is "holy". Holy meaning "whole" (as in, "complete", as well as "in full health"), "intact", "uncorrupted", "undefiled", "without imperfection", "separate from sin", "sacred" (as in "sanctified"). Which has two meanings in this context. 1. The scripture is holy and therefore perfect and entire, wanting nothing: 1 Peter 1:23, 25 KJV "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." "But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you." The holy scriptures are incorruptible, so that the words therein cannot be broken (John 10:35 KJV) or dissolved (2 Peter 3:11-12 KJV cf. Matthew 24:35 KJV), and so they endure forever. 2. The scripture is holy and therefore separate from the world: Isaiah 55:8-9, 11 KJV "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." Those who are of the world cannot understand the word of God (Romans 3:10-12 KJV) because their hearts are against God (Matthew 13:14-15 KJV), and instead of seeking God they follow after their own lusts (John 8:42-47 KJV). If only they would repent towards God, they would then understand his truth (Daniel 9:13 KJV, Proverbs 2:1-11 KJV). So the idea that the holy scriptures can be then be made unholy in order for worldly people to understand it, is against sense. Because, only by the word of God being holy and incorruptible can it make one born again, as I quoted in 1 Peter 1:23 above. 2 Timothy 3:15 KJV "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." ========== Now in regards to "modern" equivalents to thee, thou, you, and ye: "you" is not an equivalent. Each of those four words have different meanings, which are not maintained within the one word "you". And on top of that, the King James Bible distinguishes between "thou" and "ye" and "ye all". So if you use "you all" for "ye", then what do you do to distinguish "you all" and "ye all"? Read these passages in the ESV, and tell me who these passages are talking about and to, using only the context. Then we'll see if the ESV or KJV is more clear, and whether any meaning has changed, like plurality or the grammatical person being referred to: John 3:7 ESV Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ Matthew 26:64 ESV Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 2 Samuel 7:23 ESV And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name and doing for them great and awesome things by driving out before your people, whom you redeemed for yourself from Egypt, a nation and its gods? And for bonus points, if you are willing, read Romans 11:24-25 in the ESV then the KJV, and let me know who you think is being spoken to. You may need to read the whole chapter. I hope that you don't cheat and use sources outside of the text to find your answer. Anyway, I think you should be more pedantic with the words you decide to use.
@@TarkynSharples2 I commend you for the depth of your reply! I suppose I could be more pedantic, but it was a TH-cam comment. More often than not I find I end up in discussions with scorners, so I try to keep my replies succinct. My personal position on Bible versions is a KJV position. I don't believe the KJV was "re-inspired" as some do. Thus I'm not truly a KJV only guy. I'm more of a Textus Receptus only guy, which means the KJV is realistically the only option in English. And as you mentioned, after having studied Greek and Hebrew you just gotta love the the accuracy of the KJV. And thanks for subscribing to my channel! I haven't done much with in a while. Sure, I respect them for laying down the foundation for Christianity, but they completely ignore the teachings of Jesus and Paul in spite of claiming to be all about them. In any case, all churches are plagued by politics even without direct government influence and intervention. Churches are organizations run by people, many of whom have clashing ideas on how things should be run. They mostly followed an earlier translation done by William Tyndale, a guy who was murdered for translating the bible into English. Tyndale had written a letter condemning Henry VIII's attempt to get a divorce, and enraged the king. Naturally, king James wasn't going to let Tyndale's name be put in the credits section.
@@candyclews4047 Tyndale was killed because his religious views came straight out of the bible and went against the Roman Catholic Church's teaching. The arm that actually killed him is irrelevant.
@@candyclews4047 Do you have any shame? Is there even a shred of integrity in you? Aside from the lies you are telling, you are supporting Tyndale's murder. You have not once said that his killing was unjust, or that killing people for religious "heresy" is immoral. Let me ask you, do you want the Roman Catholic to return to its old practices? Do you want indulgences brought back? It looks like you are anxious to bring back the murder of people who disagree with the RCC. Don't even mention that some early Protestants killed people they disagreed with because it took a couple hundred years for Protestants to stop doing a number of bad things that they had inherited from the RCC. I condemn the killing of heretics, that includes the ones killed by Protestants. It is much better to debate a heretic and show how his teachings defy the bible, than to make him a martyr to his followers. The RCC had a strict policy against lay people possessing a copy of the bible, even an official Latin version. The RCC kept on taking bibles, especially common language translations, from their own members until the late 1800s. Local priests would take them if they heard that one of their church members had one. As for the supposed errors that Tyndale introduced in his translation of the bible, the Tyndale translation was used as the backbone of all later English translations because it was so well respected. The bishop of London that you hold up as the expert who condemned Tyndale's translation, was a devoted Roman Catholic and was never going to have any opinion on a translation of the bible into English except to say that it was bad. The RCC profited from keeping the bible away from the people. King Henry VIII liked Tyndale when Tyndale had written that God put kings in charge of their own countries, and not popes. But Henry changed his mind about Tyndale after Tyndale wrote that Henry was wrong to be seeking an annulment. Henry was in a bind, he needed a lever to pry himself out from under the pope's power over him, and Tyndale had provided it, but Tyndale had also undermined his wish to get rid of his current wife. Henry offered Tyndale a deal. Henry told Tyndale he could have a cushy job in his court if he agreed to his annulment. Tyndale said he'd go with the annulment, but Henry must publish an English bible. Tyndale knew that putting the bible into the people's hands was far more important than the king's bedroom. But Tyndale's request for an English bible was too much for Henry and the deal fell through. Henry believed that the Latin bible was the only one that was right. Henry was still in the grips of his Catholic upbringing. Strangely, a year before Tyndale was killed, Henry decided that an English bible was a good idea and he had one published. The man Henry put in charge of the job was Myles Coverdale. Coverdale's bible used Tyndale's translation as its backbone.
King James himself is Catholic and protected the Catholics from persecution and allowed them to continue their Catholic worship. His mother, a devout Catholic was his biggest influence in his life. King James may have led people to believe he was a Protestant but actually a closeted Catholic who was known for being the protector of Catholics. The irony of it all isn’t it when they killed Tyndale.
From BibleGateway “In January 1604, King James VI and I convened the Hampton Court Conference where a new English version was conceived in response to the perceived problems of the earlier translations as detected by the Puritans. James gave the translators instructions intended to guarantee that the new version would conform to the ecclesiology and reflect the episcopal structure of the Church of England and its belief in an ordained clergy. The translation was done by 47 scholars, all of whom were members of the Church of England.”
King james' Mother was a Moor. That means he was a mixed Brotha... a light skinned black man if you would... Interesting to me that so much of history's influential people were depicted as white European in popular art... even Yeshua (Jesus) was depicted to appear as white European... yet this Man was a dark Jew from the desert!.. Something is NOT RIGHT here. 🤔 I'm genuinely curious as to why it seems so taboo to have historically accurate depictions of leaders with a dark complexion... and for anyone who thinks it doesn't matter?! You're ignorant to the fact that Something sinister is at work here and/or you're not of a people whome are targeted to be erased from history.
When door to door preachers knock on your door wanting to preach from the Bible ask them which version. You them have to patiently explain how it has been rewrote several times, usually there out of there quick without having to be rude.
One thing I think needs to be mentioned. Because James was a Scot, he was Catholic. He hastened to establish his Anglican credentials as "Defender of the Faith" and this is one of the factors that led him to commission this new translation. The Puritans wanted a Bible in the English colloquial language to differentiate it from the Latin Vulgate. Remembers that the Puritans wanted to "purify" the Church of England from any taint of Roman Catholicism. The main Church of England sort of just wanted to be independent. Thus a group of hard core Puritans left England because the church wasn't purified enough for them. It wasn't that they were necessarily persecuted. It was that they felt they were a little bit better than the main church. In fact, the Puritans later came to rule England under Oliver Cromwell.
One point about the 'popularity' of the KJV. By the King's decree, the KJV was the single Authorized version of the Bible to be read in the Church of England. Which essentially said it was the only Bible allowed in use. So popular or not, it was the Bible in use by the CoE until this century, and that 'authorization' may still be in effect.
@Matthew Morningstar You may decide for yourself as you feel led by God. I do not accept King James (dead these 400 and some years) as my political King - I'm a U. S. Citizen by birth - nor accept the Church of England, with the King (or I presume Queen) of England as final theological authority. The main problem with the KJV is the English language has changed seriously in 400 years and those enamored of the KJV read it and think their mistaken impressions are those of God.

To any born again believer in God, it should be a given that they'd like to have, as accurately as possible, exactly what God had written in the Scriptures, word for word. They would rather not have instead a paraphrased copy by someone letting you know instead in their own words what God said, or even corrupted versions where things were deceptively changed, added or deleted. Well God did promise to preserve His Word, word for word, and many do not seem to realize it. Matthew 5.18 *_"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."_* A jot or tittle is the smallest part of one letter in the Hebrew alphabet, which distinguishes it from other letters. Psalms 12.6-7 *_"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever."_* God right there promised to preserve His Words. That means every one of them. Matthew 4.4 *_"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."_* Every word. Not every paraphrased version of what someone says that God said. God even warns about adding to or taking away from God's Word, so any claim there are new revelations that came after the NT is also deception and goes against God's Word. *_"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."_* Revelation 22.18-19 *_"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."_* Deuteronomy 4.2 *_"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."_* Proverbs 30.5-6 *_"What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it."_* Deuteronomy 12.32 *_"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."_* 2 Peter 1.20-21 *_"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."_* Galatians 1.6-9 *_"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."_* Matthew 24:24 So in the Greek and Hebrew, we have faith that God has preserved His Word, word for word and we should want such a copy in our own language if at all possible. Perversions were already being attempted to be inserted even back in the days of the apostles, and there are letters that warn about it. So there have long been perverted Greek and Hebrew texts, but they've been marked and avoided then as well, hence hardly used. In the past century, more and more English "bibles" have been showing up, creating great confusion (God is not the author of confusion). So concerning all these English "bibles", what you'll notice is most "scholars" or people who have an opinion on the matter will instead act like any English Bible you pick is fine - this alone shows - such a person does not think God preserved His Word - such a person does not want God's Word, word for word Scholar or not, this makes their opinions worthless as they've already shown themselves to be unbiblical. Since in the past hundred years or so hundreds of English bibles have come onto the scene, it's clear deception is the spiritual motive whether people realize it or not. They often say different things, which makes it look like God lied and did not preserve His Word. When you compare English Bibles, it's clear which one is closest in English to His preserved Word we have in Greek/Hebrew and so on: the King James Bible. It's not about being "King James only" it's about *"God's preserved Word only".* Those who think any Bible is fine also do not believe God can or did preserve His Word, which is the real difference and why people hence attack KJV. The name "King James Bible" doesn't mean King James wrote it. But God did promise to preserve His Word and it's trivial for Him to do so, in the original languages. Most English bibles are "translated" from already corrupted texts - one need only compare English verses to see which ones are corrupted, and the KJV is the only one left standing. We should want God's preserved Word. Consider this as one of thousands of proofs: Jn 6:47 KJV "He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." NIV "He who believes has everlasting life." NASB "He who believes has eternal life." NWT "He that believes has everlasting life." NLT "anyone who believes has eternal life." ESV "whoever believes has eternal life." So which one do you think is God's preserved Word? A Bible that says that a person believing on Christ has everlasting life, or a person believing (on who knows what) has everlasting life? Do you really think God's Word would have "on me" missing? Of course not. And speaking of how critical God's Word is, even God points out we need to live by EVERY WORD of God. But of course the corrupted Greek/Hebrew texts will remove things like this as well, since they are in effect an attack on God and His Word. Lk 4:4 KJV "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." NIV "Man does not live on bread alone." NASB "Man shall not live on bread alone." NWT "Man must not live by bread alone." ESV ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’” So I humbly ask Christians to consider looking only at God's preserved Word. This in turn would mean in English the best by far for many centuries: King James Bible. May God bless!
@@sethplace No, I like God's preserved Word (textus receptus), and the KJV is one Bible translated from His preserved Word, word for word as much as possible, instead of all the corrupted manuscripts and their 'modern' false bibles..
@ForumLight That was a lenthy post but informative and a strong defence of the preservation of God's word with some insight and effective examples. That you emphasise the preservation of God's word rather than merely the KJV is an important distinction, althought they do overlap, and I found that helpful. Thank you.
Regardless of your beliefs on the matter, the King James version of today remains one of the great works of English literature, with a sublime poetic cadence.

I doubt there has ever been such a group of august linguists gathered together for a single project before or since. And the King really gave them very few restrictions. Like it or hate it, the KJV has shaped western thought more than any other English work.
@RandyWhite Not only that but it is the only Bible commissioned by a king. The scholars translated KJV! They got it right but a primitive print press ran a couple minor errors that were spotted n corrected. NIV is from the Alexandrian cult in the book of Acts 7:9 KJV . It makes Jesus look like he sins, denies virgin birth, deity of Christ ,removes fasting , n contradicts.
The King James Bible has had more impact on the English language than any other literary work. It has been the most accepted and beloved translation of millions of Christians and is still reigning king as the most prominent translation today. The King James Bible is still the primary or only translation being used by approximately 55% of the Christian population; this dwarfs the second most used translation, the New International Version, which only has a measly 19%. No other Bible has come close to matching the accuracy or beauty of the language found within the King James Bible; religious or not, one truly can not over state the lasting impact this translation has had and continues to have on the English speaking world. Edit: corrected spelling error
Most popular for protestants, the Catholic versions have several translations. Remember there are 1.6 billion Catholics and offshoots of Catholicism. While there's about 700 million Protestants. Unless you belong to that group that considers only yourselves as Christians.
I'll take the Douay Rheims over the KJV any day.It was the Douay Rheims that has the same language that the later KJV used. Not to mention that the Douay Rheims is complete.Today's so-called KJV translations are the later and incomplete 1769 version, not the original and complete 1611 version.
"They wanted to Bible to SOUND right .. If the translation didn't sound good, the general committee would debate and revise the passage until it did." Yeah...and here exactly is one of the main problems. The text (at least the First Five Books) is meant to be a very specific way.. You can't just flip flop and change stuff around because you like the way it sounds better. That's such nonsense..
Actually, they wanted it to be right. But you can say what is right in a way that doesn’t accommodate the human mouth, vocal cords, or ear. The translators took pains to be accurate in all of the above.

Zechariah Chapter 14 1 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. 2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. 4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee. 6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: 7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light. 8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. 9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one. 10 All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses. 11 And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited. 12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. 13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the Lord shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbor, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbor. 14 And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance. 15 And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the donkey, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague. 16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. 17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. 18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the Lord will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. 19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. 20 In that day shall there be upon the bells of horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the Lord’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar. 21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts. Let us pray for Israel God’s chosen people. All the events happening are key signs of our Lord Jesus soon return. Zechariah Chapter 14 And Psalm 83 are key chapters as to what is going on.

Sometimes one translator would make different translation with another translator because they have to consider what is the meaning of the translation against word-by-word translating which sometimes include old words that are not usually used in the modern times.

Edit : and the kjv is still pushed upon people today, btw. You may not be physically forced to get one anymore, but often it is still put forth as THE bible version people should read above the others. The other day I read a comment by someone who told the readers of a church which does a check by the door (as a gun check would be done at airports or some schools), and that at that church if anyone had a version/translation other than the kjv, he (the pastor) threatened to throw it away.

Could it have been a typographical error? Was it corrected? My Bible doesn't say that.
What is your motive?
Are you really trying to help people? or are you just a destructive critic trained by the Jesuits to destroy people's faith in the Bible?
The early editions of the King James had many typographical errors (mostly spelling and punctuation), the corrections were made and the King James Bible went on to alter the course of human history and today, 400 years and over 200 modern versions later, it still reigns paramount in spite of the Roman church's and modern apostates efforts to replace it.
@@floydgrissom1402 just trying to set the record straight (help). Btw, the kjv was forced upon the people ("appointed to be read in churches") and the previous bibles (especially Geneva) got banned. Even today, the kjv is still pressed upon people. And there were many editions of the kjv which had typographical errors. It's not like it was just a few. Kjv was catholic as well. There were birthdays of the saints within it's first pages (before the start of Genesis).

More nonsense. Nobody forced the Bible on anyone, there was a huge demand for the scriptures in the common language and the King James was the Bible of choice by the common people.
The Geneva was never banned it just wasn't as popular as the King James.
You can buy one now on Amazon for $45.00.

As for "typographical errors" please name one.
King James sales are in the billions, it is by far the top selling book in history.
It has also stood the test of time (400 years and counting).
That did not happen by force or coercion.
The people who promote the new versions don't read them, if they did they would switch back to the KJV.
@@floydgrissom1402 then vs now. It was called the authorized bible and the one appointed to be read in churches for a reason. And Geneva was a popular bible. The kjv was made to quiet that one. King James did not like what a few of the notes said. You can look this up on wikipedia. And if you don't think the kjv is catholic, then go get a 1611 facismile and look through that one. When I say typographical errors, I'm referring to editions that had printer mistakes. It may not be how the 1769 reads today, but they've been there in the past. God works in mysterious ways
I'm just wanting to be sure I understand)
As to your comments about my use of "old English" and "archaic", I suppose it's fair to characterize those terms as a bit sloppy (though I'd argue "false witness" is a bit severe).
Latin was used as well back in that day.
Hey @@andrewolsen5667, I agree with most of your original comment. I was only giving you correction on those things which required it. I wasn't trying to be adversarial.
You said: "But if you can't get past the old English"
where my reply was "You mean Modern English."
I could have stated it in a different way.
==========
Regarding now the sound of the King James Bible when compared to modern Bible versions.
1. The scripture is holy and therefore perfect and entire, wanting nothing:
1 Peter 1:23, 25 KJV
"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
"But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you."
The holy scriptures are incorruptible, so that the words therein cannot be broken (John 10:35 KJV) or dissolved (2 Peter 3:11-12 KJV cf. Matthew 24:35 KJV), and so they endure forever.
2. The scripture is holy and therefore separate from the world:
Isaiah 55:8-9, 11 KJV
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."
"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
Those who are of the world cannot understand the word of God (Romans 3:10-12 KJV) because their hearts are against God (Matthew 13:14-15 KJV), and instead of seeking God they follow after their own lusts (John 8:42-47 KJV).
2 Timothy 3:15 KJV
"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."
==========
Now in regards to "modern" equivalents to thee, thou, you, and ye: "you" is not an equivalent.
Then we'll see if the ESV or KJV is more clear, and whether any meaning has changed, like plurality or the grammatical person being referred to:
John 3:7 ESV
Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
Matthew 26:64 ESV
Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
2 Samuel 7:23 ESV
And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name and doing for them great and awesome things by driving out before your people, whom you redeemed for yourself from Egypt, a nation and its gods?
Not the whole story.

@@candyclews4047
Tyndale was killed because his religious views came straight out of the bible and went against the Roman Catholic Church's teaching.
The arm that actually killed him is irrelevant.
@@candyclews4047
Do you have any shame?
Why do newer versions cut out MATTHEW 17: 21???????
Acts 8:37 is in the KJV but missing in the NIV.

Not worth it. They just try to keep you talking and then complain that in all fairness it is time for them to babble.
King James was a Presbyterian.
You left out that Geneva was banned and there was persecution for anyone that owned a copy of it.

Matthew 5.18 *_"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."_*
A jot or tittle is the smallest part of one letter in the Hebrew alphabet, which distinguishes it from other letters.
Psalms 12.6-7 *_"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever."_*
God right there promised to preserve His Words. That means every one of them.
Matthew 4.4 *_"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."_*
Every word. Not every paraphrased version of what someone says that God said.
God even warns about adding to or taking away from God's Word, so any claim there are new revelations that came after the NT is also deception and goes against God's Word.
*_"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."_*
Revelation 22.18-19
*_"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."_*
Deuteronomy 4.2
*_"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."_*
Proverbs 30.5-6
*_"What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it."_*
Deuteronomy 12.32
*_"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."_*
2 Peter 1.20-21
*_"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."_*
Galatians 1.6-9
*_"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."_*
Matthew 24:24
So in the Greek and Hebrew, we have faith that God has preserved His Word, word for word and we should want such a copy in our own language if at all possible.
So concerning all these English "bibles", what you'll notice is most "scholars" or people who have an opinion on the matter will instead act like any English Bible you pick is fine - this alone shows
- such a person does not think God preserved His Word
- such a person does not want God's Word, word for word
Scholar or not, this makes their opinions worthless as they've already shown themselves to be unbiblical.
Consider this as one of thousands of proofs:
Jn 6:47
KJV "He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."
NIV "He who believes has everlasting life."
NASB "He who believes has eternal life."
NWT "He that believes has everlasting life."
NLT "anyone who believes has eternal life."
ESV "whoever believes has eternal life."
So which one do you think is God's preserved Word? A Bible that says that a person believing on Christ has everlasting life, or a person believing (on who knows what) has everlasting life? Do you really think God's Word would have "on me" missing? Of course not.
And speaking of how critical God's Word is, even God points out we need to live by EVERY WORD of God. But of course the corrupted Greek/Hebrew texts will remove things like this as well, since they are in effect an attack on God and His Word.
Lk 4:4
KJV "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."
NIV "Man does not live on bread alone."
NASB "Man shall not live on bread alone."
NWT "Man must not live by bread alone."
ESV ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’”
So I humbly ask Christians to consider looking only at God's preserved Word. This in turn would mean in English the best by far for many centuries: King James Bible.
May God bless!
Just for clarification, you like the KJV right?
@@sethplace No, I like God's preserved Word (textus receptus), and the KJV is one Bible translated from His preserved Word, word for word as much as possible, instead of all the corrupted manuscripts and their 'modern' false bibles..
@@ForumLight oh. Alright then.

That was a lenthy post but informative and a strong defence of the preservation of God's word with some insight and effective examples.

"They wanted to Bible to SOUND right .. If the translation didn't sound good, the general committee would debate and revise the passage until it did."
Yeah...and here exactly is one of the main problems.
It's a masterpiece.

Zechariah Chapter 14
1 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

Simon/Daven, did this translation contribute to some of the Puritans deciding to leave and come to America just a few years later in 1620?
They left due to religious persecution from the Protostants.
No, the Puritans came to America seeking religious freedom and proceeded to hang Quakers for proselytizing on their turf. This version of religious freedom is making a comeback in Trump's America, but without the hangings (so far).
Do you talking about Sir?
Sometimes one translator would make different translation with another translator because they have to consider what is the meaning of the translation against word-by-word translating which sometimes include old words that are not usually used in the modern times.
It all sounds like William Shakespeare had the last say in the exact wording,
which I`m sure King James would have approved, if not requested.
