      I currently just started on candles. I know I do not have to choose, (but for health reasons, while getting better, I might need to put my main focus on one product over the others...)
      The more I watch your soap videos, as well as other soap artisans, but youbespecially for the production practicality,
      the more I lean toward the soap crafting, ( later body butters, bath bombs etc.) Part of this self care business. The butters, oils, micas, colors, swirling, essential oils, fragrance oils!!! Leading to the end result of soap, makes me so excited!: I adore candles and aromatherapy and the flame, wax and smell helps me feel better when I am feeling down. But I can always do that as an additional product or even just for myself...But soap ingredients, in my assumption,can be better preprepared, planned and organized in a way that candles seemingly cannot.
      I am considering if soap might be better suited to mass producing 1000's of bars on my stronger days, producing more than needed and putting in alot of work on those days. But being able to organize master batch and prepare molds on days needing to take it slower. Or even having a helper on the prep day.
      Maybe you are so with it and organized that it looks like something better to do a majority of for business sake, than candles. It all looks awesome.
      If you don't mind, please
      Let me know if you think that is a correct understanding and if you think soap is a better product to be able to plan ahead on.
      Maybe I am just thinking too much and need to listen and walk it out.

    I love how you share your faith and that God gave you knowledge of witty inventions (Proverbs 8:12 KJV)! That 50/50 solution is a game changer. I have a question: I want to add tussah silk to my cold process soaps, which only dissolve in the lye solution's heat. If the lye and water are already pre-mixed, like the 50/50, does it still reach a high enough temperature to dissolve the silk fibers?

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a great question. I have not worked with silk fibers before. I recommend trying to dissolve a small amount in the 50/50 lye and see how it behaves. The other option is to heat your extra water or liquid and dissolve in that.

    I have been thinking about masterbatching a 50/50 lye solution, I am in the process of switching over to goats milk for my soaps from buttermilk - a lot of customers have been asking for goats milk - easier to switch then to explain why buttermilk is good too - especially in my booth I rent for consignment. So is your 50/50 made up of lye/water and then you add your goat milk as the remainder of the liquid? I can't imagine you would be able to mb with all goat's milk and no water, correct? I don't currently use goat milk because I didn't want to step on other vendors at the the farmers market who do, but I get asked for it and am seriously considering adding it as a line. LOVE your videos and the kindness you show by sharing your knowledge.

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you add goats milk after you add your lye water and add the milk as the remainder of the liquid. And no, you can not use all goats milk unless you wanted to make a 50/50 goats milk and lye solution and then add additional goats milk. You've got this!!!

    Hola. Tengo un par de preguntas: lo que quieres decir de tu fórmula de lejía es que añadamos ese 50/50 a nuestras recetas, y lo que le falte de agua para completar se la añadamos a los aceites verdad?
    La segunda pregunta es: es necesario trabajar con tu mezcla de aceites trinitry o podemos emplear las grasas que queremos para que la fórmula salga bien? Gracias por tu canal, muy interesante como has llegado a ser una mujer grande en el mundo del jabón 👏👏👏👏👏

    • @TheSoapGal

      Great questions! With the 50/50 solution I recommend referring to this blog for details about water discounts and lye concentrations: www.modernsoapmaking.com/blog/lye-solution-in-soapmaking Additionally, you do not have to use the trinity blend in your recipes you can use any oils you want! But you will want a software like Soap Maker 3 to help you formulate your recipes. Hope that helps!!

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      50/50 solution helps save time because you can store it safely without having to mix your lye fresh each time. You can get it shipped from a lab in bulk - premixed with the water so that it's ready to go any time you need. It expedites the cure time so your soap is safer faster. You use it by creating a slight water discount in your recipe to account for the water that's already in your lye solution. A great reference recipe is the one from makesy here: makesy.com/blogs/news/how-to-make-cold-process-soap?_pos=1&_sid=4faa797a4&_ss=r

    I’m more confused on the how part. I use 5.52oz lye and 8.27oz water. Does this mean I should do 6.89oz of water then 6.89oz of water in my recipe now? Is there a special water discount calculator? Will this change effect the amount of oils I usually use? Thanks so much. I’m in a situation where I need bars fast.

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You are not using a lye solution now correct? Is the water (liquid) amount 8.27oz and the dry lye beads are 5.52 oz that you are add to the water to make your current lye solution correct ? If that is the case you would need to make the 50/50 lye solution first. This is how you could do that with this recipe. You would use 5.52 oz of water (ice) and 5.52 oz of dry lye beads dissolve them together then add an additional 2.75 oz of water to your 50/50 lye solution to make this recipe. This is a time saving process so I would suggest to make a larger amount and put in a secure lye safe container(s) or purchase a lye solution tank and masterbatch. For example if you use 32 oz lye 32 oz water (ice) that is 64 oz of solution made. Then when you are making this recipe you would pour out 11.04 oz (11 oz) of this premade solution and add the additional 2.75 oz. of any liquid to that recipe. (5.52 lye beads + 5.52 water to dissolve the lye to make the solution + 2.75 = 8.27 water)

      I spent a while making my own lye calculator. It does most everything including calculating what I should sell the bar for. One of the things I included is calculating your lye amount using a 50/50 solution.
      My daughter one year said put it on Etsy for other soapers to use. So thats what I did. It's actually the ONLY (literally) real lye calculator on Etsy.

    How did the 50/50 affect the quality of your soap?

      It does not effect the quality at all, I am still using the exact same amount of water and sodium hydroxide in my formula as I did before. I am just making the solution before time as a time, saving technique and adding additional liquid needed to the recipe it is exactly the same recipe amount as before.
