I just purchased a jug (8 lbs) of Makesy Trinity Oil Soap Base at Hobby Lobby marked down from $63.99 to $12.79. Do I just need the 50/50 and scented oil now? I have the molds, scales, safety wear and blender.
I hope someone does one like this in the UK one day. I do melt and pour which i buy online. Only do personal ones right now but want to do some to sell once i've done the CRSPS. Xx
thank you for testing this kit. i like the pitcher, I foresee myself having bought 20 kits or so and end up with 20 pitchers or do they have refil sets? sorry no Hobby Lobby in the Netherlands...😞
With the lye solution Do you still have to wait for it to get to a certain temperature before pouring into your soap? And also, do you think this solution can also be used in hot process?Soap cause I know for me.This would be so awesome for me.I hate measuring lye
Geeat video katie. I would assume the soap cost less per bar, because of the cup, mold etc. Because to buy 1 mold is around $10-15.00 and cup that size is about $5-10.00. And those are reusable items that are going to last you a very very long time. Because some people might still think it is to costly to buy the kit for that cost to end up with 10 soaps, plus the job to make the soap. In my calculatuons i got 1 soap bar for under $2.00. And i call that kit a really really super buy. I wish we had hobby lobby here in ontario, canada. Great video.

@@Jenni_Parry thanks I figured as much.... especially the way Katie stresses the use of PPE when mixing but also the way she said you may have these things lying around for mashed potatoes was a little unclear🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏾♀️
You can just increase the amount of olive oil or palm oil you use! I would go with increasing the olive oil since it's less expensive, but the soap will be a bit softer so it may need to cure longer. Brambleberry has a whole page on soap oils called Beginner's Guide to Common Soap Making Oils, it lists benefits of the oils, and towards the bottom it has a table showing the max percentage of each oil that can be used in a recipe. Olive oil can be up to 100% so it's an easy one to use. If you do plan on tweaking an existing recipe to substitute something else for coconut oil, I'd recommend checking it with a lye calculator to determine if you'd need to adjust the amount of lye. If you're just making it for fun you could probably skip this step if you're using olive oil specifically, since it won't make the soap harsh but would actually make it gentler. Castille soap is a very gentle soap you can make that only uses olive oil, so it might be something to look into as well.
4:54 I’m here doing colour swatches and you were like I’m gonna stick that in for 30 minutes and I was like that’s way too long. But you meant 30 seconds. 😅
You didn't test the lather like you said you were, with these, so let us know what the Makesey soap is like. I've been thinking of getting more into soap making after attending a soap class from college, but still a bit hesitant to committing to the hovby after collecting all the equipment.
Thank you for this information, I want to make soap but didn't have a card to order things. now I can go to the hobby lobby and get them, still need to travel 70 miles, but will call family and do dinner while there
If you go to dollar tree you can get a prepaid credit card for $1.25 plus whatever amount you want on it. Then you could order things with your prepaid card. Walmart has them too but they're like $5.
I love the "box" being a usable container :D. I really hope people are appropriately careful with the lye though, there are way too many videos out there of parents ignoring warning labels and letting their kids get hurt. Did they card you on it, sometimes that stuff must be purchased by adults?
It depends on the recipe, but it would seem that the kit calls for a lower lye concentration. The oils all have a specific saponification level, and the sum of those numbers adds up to the amount of lye needed to convert it all into soap. If she had mixed it exactly as-is and the soap required a lower lye concentration, the soap would have been extremely lye heavy and therefore caustic. Should they have mixed it at the needed ratio to begin with? Probably. Luckily adding more water is a lot less stressful than adding more lye crystals.
Interesting on the makesy video. She poured in her water into her oils first and poured in the fifty-fifty solution later. She didn't mix the fifty fifty solution with the water like you did

I would love to see if you can see if they have an oil blend without tree nuts (shockingly coconut is a tree nut as well 😢)!❤😊
You'll want to check with an allergist, but soap is so chemically altered from what it was before that food allergies are probably irrelevant.
Yes do another
I just purchased a jug (8 lbs) of Makesy Trinity Oil Soap Base at Hobby Lobby marked down from $63.99 to $12.79. Do I just need the 50/50 and scented oil now? I have the molds, scales, safety wear and blender.
I hope someone does one like this in the UK one day. I do melt and pour which i buy online. Only do personal ones right now but want to do some to sell once i've done the CRSPS. Xx
Good job, thank U for sharing
Can't wait to get one❤😊
Wonder if you could just buy the lye water solution and fragrance separately and, y'know, not from Hobby Lobby.
You can! Here is a link to the 50/50 solution on the Makesy website! bit.ly/3TPdzmV
❤😮
@@RoyaltySoaps I did not know this existed in the States. I heard about people buying their lye like this outside. Thanks.
I love Hobby Lobby 💜
@@IxAMxSQUISHY you shouldn't.
you should try to use the whip soap base that they have to make body scrubs?????!!!!!!!
thank you for testing this kit. i like the pitcher, I foresee myself having bought 20 kits or so and end up with 20 pitchers or do they have refil sets? sorry no Hobby Lobby in the Netherlands...😞
, needed this. i mentioned in my video about this. This video helped❤
Plz make this a series
That's awesome 🙂
Yes please!!!!🎉
I bought a kid at Michaels years ago. It was so expensive per bar that it didn't seem worth it. I'm totally going to pick this kit up. Thank you ❤🕊️
Love the soap gal, she has tons of info
I just got the kit today on clearance for 10 dollars
Cool!
With the lye solution Do you still have to wait for it to get to a certain temperature before pouring into your soap? And also, do you think this solution can also be used in hot process?Soap cause I know for me.This would be so awesome for me.I hate measuring lye
Yes, please! Please do this kit again! It would be nice to see what it would be like as a “newbie soap maker” too.
no lather test?
I saw this kit at the store today! I was wondering if it was any good.
I'd love to see you make more from the line!
I've been look at the soap cutters on Amazon, but couldn't decide. Can you link the one you used pls?
Quick question where do you buy your protective gloves from?
Hello, I need your help please. I am confused. I am not sure how much am I supposed to use of oils and lye. I have the small purple mold. I think that’s 2.5 pounds. I just wanna make sure I do this correctly. It does not tell me or am I missing it? Can you help me please? I want to do this correct with the oils , lye especially picking the correct mold size. I have the purple one. I think it is a 2.5 pounds. I love to see you make your soul, but I want to make my own. Also I don’t want to confuse myself. Please help thank you. God bless you.😅
Can you use kitchen items for the soap and then reuse them in the kitchen???? The reason I ask is because of you saying you may have these items already in your home❤❤❤❤❤
No, you shouldn't use kitchen items for making soap and then use them for food again. You should have dedicated utensils for Soap making.
@@Jenni_Parry thanks I figured as much.... especially the way Katie stresses the use of PPE when mixing but also the way she said you may have these things lying around for mashed potatoes was a little unclear🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏾♀️
Hi, could you recommend a different oil than coconut as my daughter is allergic to anything with coconut in it.
Can u tell me what the cutter is that u used please?
I’m all the sudden OVERLY confident that I could and should start making soap lol
I could not find this cutter. Do u have a link?
At my HL the items are not in a bucket but individually.
It may just be out of stock, but I would have to find out if every single Hobby Lobby has the bucket set, I *think* they do!
I can't seem to find this kit anywhere. Does anyone know if it is still available?
4:54 I’m here doing colour swatches and you were like I’m gonna stick that in for 30 minutes and I was like that’s way too long. But you meant 30 seconds. 😅
This is the first kit I purchased and regularly use their trinity blend and 50/50 solution.
I am confused, why add more water to the solution if it is already pre blended 50/50 mix?
You didn't test the lather like you said you were, with these, so let us know what the Makesey soap is like. I've been thinking of getting more into soap making after attending a soap class from college, but still a bit hesitant to committing to the hovby after collecting all the equipment.
Yes more videos using this kit!!!
How did that not get a heat crack or did you let it cool before mixing?
Oh make another one please. I'd like to see if another fragrance out side of the kit works as well.
I love the "box" being a usable container :D. I really hope people are appropriately careful with the lye though, there are way too many videos out there of parents ignoring warning labels and letting their kids get hurt. Did they card you on it, sometimes that stuff must be purchased by adults?
Question - Isnt the 50/50 solution alreadt exactly whar is needed? Why do you add more water?
